had the pleasure to see her live this week. absolutely earth-shattering talent! what a gift she has!

Just saw her at her Town Hall debut which is a few years after this performance. She is a once in a generation talent and it is so wonderful to see a young singer carry this remarkable tradition forward while putting her stamp on it. She sang a number of songs that she wrote the lyrics of herself that were really lovely. She totally commands the stage and has both incredible range, timing and feel. Destined to have a huge career. Try and catch her live!

First of all, I am at work and when you started singing I yelled out "Well SING IT then!" Your tone is everything! Now The thing with Ella's scat solos is that most of her recorded ones are based on bop instrumental solos (Flying Home for instance) where her ear was so phenomenal that she could transpose any intrumentation into vocalization in a way that when you heard her you forgot all about whose solo she's interpolating because it becomes HERS. Now live...I can't give you any clues for her live inpromptu scats...that was otherworldly.
