you really hasn't removed all the old coolant from the engine block, blocked by the thermostat
Like a fever dream. Are you Longmont Potion Castle?
Another quality video, Breezy. Looking forward to seeing more videos of this evolving rig in action
right on, right on, right on
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4.3 v6 and wanted to change my coolant there is still coolant inside the tank but I unscrew the cap off the tank put a drain pan under and unscrewed the screw from the radiator and no coolant drained but I looked back at the coolant tank and some coolant was gone what could this be?
Sounds like your coolant level was low to begin with. When you re-fill make sure you top off to the capacity for your engine. The owners manual should specify the capacities for your truck.
@@jimibreeze the problem is I can’t drain my coolant because it won’t come out when I unscrew the plastic screw
12 years 100k miles my boy here drove it to the store and back for 12 years the fuck
Always use hose to fill radiator as much as possible. And never use regular water it'll eat your Radiator. Always use Distilled water. But I'm no mechanic. 😂✌️
Distilled water. Dont use tap water it has minerals and will bindup and clogg your radiator.
U would had fill that radiator from the top radiator hose faster.
that's correct, best to start the fill procedure in the radiator
Great video and a nice little sailing rig set up. Thanks for sharing 👍.
Ya it's a fun little rig, easy to set up. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank You Good video
hey now, nice to know my video is helping others learn more about how take care of their trucks.
Great Video. Thank you for sharing your Falcon Sail experience.
Yes, what a great experience and thank you for the technical help.
Cool! See ya got my valve cover racer in at the 2:40 marker. Nice job on the video. It was a good show.
Oh ya, that was a hot car racer.
Groovy tune
Hey now, just trying to keep the show rolling
I own a 11 just like yours great truck I’ve had zero issues I’ve owned it since 14
good to hear
what is the sound 0:33 used from?
sound effect from iMovie
MG, baby! Looking good Jimi!
Right on, right on, right on.
Please don't put any hose water in your engine while its still hot, you can and will crack the block due to temperature difference
Hey Jimi GM should use you in their commercials!!
...hummmm....that's a big swig of oil down the tubes.....
do you mean the oil shot into the cylinders?
I can't find the drain on my 2012 5.3. Any tips?
A quick easy method to drain the coolant would be to remove the lower radiator hose and catch the coolant into a container.
Keep some spare ignition rotors handy. The current replacements seem to short out very quickly, unless you get the blue or red ones that are a bit more expensive.
Is that a gdi engine as well my 2014 is and I hate it. Also does it have the stupid cylinder deactivation? I'm running 35 inch tires should I change the gear ratio with my tuner?
Larger diameter tires will have the effect of making your final drive ratio HIGHER affecting your engines RPM. Usually this means the engine is not operating with all available torque, suffering gas mileage and loss of power. After my gear swap my truck is running much better with the larger tires than stock factory sized tires. Look up tire gear ratio calculators online to get a better idea of what RPM your engine will be.
@@jimibreeze do you have a vídeo of the gear swap?
@@ILIKE2FIXSTUFF No video on the gear swap. I had a shop do it for me.
Wanna add value to that truck? But a gallon of milk in the front seat..
🐄
Till they bring back the cast iron engine ... Chevy engines are second rate.
Loosing weight is all in the quest for better fuel mileage. I don't think we will see cast iron engine blocks in passenger trucks much longer, we will probably more electric motor driven trucks. Someday the 2010 model years trucks will be referred to as classics.
Great video and tough rig
Thanks 👍

If it means anything I have a pretty much bone stock 92 exCab long bed 8ft with tow package. 350 tbi. She still runs. No smoke 198k will of course burn tires if you are heavy foot. Hahah. Second owner and original claims it was rebuilt both the engine and trans but I dont know. Hard to tell. No smoke is a true sign I assume. Now the interior is horrid but hey. 92. Lol.
ya i get it. I had a 1992 K1500 Z71 step side that never had the chance to reach over 100k. Truck was totally in a towing accident on a Maumee River Bridge. Truck spun a 180 and lost the trailer. Transmission and rear axel suffered catastrophic damage.
@@jimibreeze damn!!!! That's insane !!!!
'Promo sm'
I've had, chev, ford, and dodge, they all bring something to the table. I currently have 11 sierra, but the previous 07 F150 was a better overall truck.
Your right, all vehicle have their merits.
How do you like that Banks CAI? I love Banks parts, how does it perform
I am very happy with the Banks power system. High quality.
No vehicle with cylinder deactivation will "run forever". It WILL bite you in the ass eventually. Is 1 mile per gallon worth replacing your engine?
I guess the more complicated the system increases the likelihood of something going wrong
I reached the lower radiator hose from the hood by removing the air filter. Pliers were a pain for me but got it, needed vice grips to clamp the hose all the way on.
glad you got to it
My 2011 has 290k and still runs great
does your truck have the cylinder deactivation?
Ive got an 08' z71 with 180k. Absolute love it, best truck ive ever owned. So simple and straightforward to work on. So well designed. Theyre very common so parts are dirt cheap and readily available. You usually have to replace the broken exhaust manifold bolts and the leaking rear main seal at least once in the life of the vehicle, but $2500 once in a trucks life for ~300k or more miles who can complain about that?
right on
Replaced my Transmission at 90,000, but the engine is still strong at 200,000! Love my Chevys!
Had a 94 GMC Sierra Z71 5.7L ,Had 437,000 on it when it got totaled. Still ran like a top. I got it in 97 with 30k on it and changed oil every 3k Started adding a bottle of Restore oil additive at 175k on every oil change
I throw in a bottle of additive every once in while too.
Excellent video. Great scenery and the truck off roads great! Thank you!
hey thanks, i'm just shooting off the hip with these videos.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time and sharing your experience. I am about to get a used one and I love it. I subscribed. Last time I had a Chevy pickup was over 30 years ago. The more I hear about these gen 2’s the more I like them.
they will be a classic chevy truck some day.
I love this!! Thanks so much!!
Right on, glad you can dig it.
they dont have heater valves anymore, no need to turn on heat
didn't know that, thanks
Would my 05 Silverado still have them
Run the air pressure listed on the sidewalk of the tire. It helps with fuel economy and tire life. If doing long distance towing, add an auxiliary transmission cooler. There is no way to set the tow capacity with 4:10 gears, too much depends on the trailer. Just watch the tongue weight when loading the trailer (why a lot of RVs use a load leveler hitch).
I ended up going with 38 psi front & 40 psi rear when I have the camper on the truck. I came up with these numbers using the chalk test (coloring chalk on the tire then driving a short distance, then inspecting how it wore off, adjusting air psi then doing it again). I notice the air psi printed on the tires always list MAX pressure.
I have a 13’ Avalanche 4wd I’m preparing to tow a travel trailer, it came with 3.08 would like to change gears I have a 03’ I ordered new with 4.10 gears & I love that.. what’s your opinion on the 4.10’s with the 6speed? How big of job is that? Did you add a trans cooler?
with the gear swap, my truck runs fantastic. The six speed automatic trans operates just fine. I normally use the paddle shift feature as a "manual auto trans". I did not add a transmission cooler or anything else. Gear swap is a big job that needs to be done correctly. I hired someone to do it which cost more than the parts involved. But is was hands down the biggest improvement for my use of the truck.
2010 4.3 203k miles every winter in Michigan. Still strong 💪🏼
oh yeah. over 200k
Did you delete the AFM? Good video. Stay safe. 7/18/2023 13:23 13:23
No I have not deleted the AFM. I'm on the edge if I should or not..
I believe with your Banks system you can disable AFM (DOD) or it may be their default in certain modes
I have a 2017 Z71, with the 6.2. Have had a total engine rebuild, due to AFM lifter failure. Two 8 speed transmissions, due to torque converter failure. Aero louvers stuck open. Brake failure at low speed. Leaf springs were replaced, due to wrong ones. Front drive shaft to the front differential fell off. AC condenser leaked all the freon out. And the interior electronics has never worked right. This is the type of bullshit to be expected. When a private sector company. Is run by the government.
whoa... sounds like some bad luck with your truck.
What’s the box on the driver side??
the tank is a reservoir for hydraulic fluid (snow plow).
@@jimibreeze oh cool!
Thank you for capturing the 21st Annual Father's Day Car Show at Silver Creek A.A.!
oh ya. I try to film the 22nd annual show next year
Great work on the video! A lot of great vehicles!
It was great day with lots of cool cars in attendance.
Hahaha I put 100k on a car in 3-4years just daily use.
For me its where it takes me not how fast I get there.
Absolutely, Take care of your Silverado and it will take care of you, these vehicles are Masterpieces in Motion, talking about Z71 4x4, 5.3. 6 speed with Displacement on Demand, but one has to understand how DOD ,works to use it effectively. My truck has close to 200k, no major issues so far.
What's your secret to understanding how to drive the the DOD?
I got a 2011 avalanche 5.3 as well 123k and runs smooth. The downfall to these 5.3 is the DOD. Alot of people delete the DOD. I havent yet but debating if I should. Good engine with one fatal flaw. Without the DOD they are bulletproof. Ik some avalanche fanatics will switch out the 2nd gen engine for the 1st gen since it didn't have DOD. From my research the DOD is only an issue if your towing alot and it's on the heavier side.
@@JoinRumble1stAmendmentFriendly Absolutely, In my opinion, once the engine is constantly over revved constantly, issues happen. The smart charging and DOD delivers exceptional fuel economy on long hauls.
