Sing of the Lord's Goodness (Jazz Church)
A worship song heavily influenced by Paul Desmond's "Take Five" made famous by Dave Brubeck.
www.jazzchurch.org.uk
It is unusual for a worship song to be in the time signature 5/4 when we are so used to 4/4 and 3/4. Perhaps this is a reminder that God does not use conventional ways to display goodness to us. God introduces extra beats and works in ways that we are not expecting. Come then all you nations, sing of your Lord's goodness!

www.jazzchurch.org.uk A jazz ballad arrangement of the classic worship song "Be still and know that I am God". Recorded live at Jazz Church (jazzchurch.org.uk) on 17th October 2010. A slight reharmonisation of the original chords brings this old song to life. The gradual build throughout the entire song: a proclamation of who God is, what God has done and then climaxes in the final verse "In th...

www.jazzchurch.org.uk A fresh arrangement of "Be still for the Presence of the Lord" recorded live at Jazz Church (jazzchurch.org.uk) on 17th October 2010. As a call to worship this song helps to encourage us to acknowledge the busyness and stress of everyday life, but then set it aside when remembering that God is with us and an act of worship is an opportunity to feel God's presence. This is what mass should be like. It should be of praise & rejoicing in a joyful (& jazzy) way. One of my fave hymns & a great worship by this congregation & choir.

Brubeck converted to Catholicism later in life, and wrote a jazz Mass setting. Mr. (Joe) Negri (the guy who owned the music store on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood) is/was a Catholic liturgist, and also wrote a jazz Mass.

Wonderful job, guys. I used to hear this song in church and later noticed its similarity to "Take Five" -- I wonder if the writers have ever acknowledged the influence. Brilliant blending of the two pieces.

      D. Desmond . Oh ya, I’m sure the writer knew it from the start. By the way, I noticed your last name-any relation to Paul Desmond-he was the fantastic alto player on Brubeck’s “Take Five”-worth a listen.
