    So is this a malpractice if this happens to you just after surgery? I had arthroscopic knee surgery and almost was rushed to the emergency room after due to this issue.

      Thanks for the question! I want to state I'm not a legal nurse consultant or lawyer, and every situation is unique. This is NOT LEGAL Advice. Every intervention/procedure may present a "complication" or "adverse event" when recieving anesthesia a patient signs a consent, acknowledging that there are "risks" or "adverse events" that could occur with surgery and anesthesia from mild to life threatening. Malpractice is where the provider was found negligent. Now if this occurred due to negligence on the anesthesia providers behalf then a case may be made. In all the scenarios I have seen; No, it was not malpractice and is a complication that can occur during the emergence phase in anesthesia. We see it mostly in the younger 18-20's population who can pull powerful negative inspiratory force (NIF) during the induction or the emergence phases of anesthesia & intubation/extubation procedure. Anesthesia medicates and provides deep extubation techniques to avoid this, but it is a risk. Not all patients are suitable candidates for deep extubation techniques. Nurses need to be aware of identifying this complication quickly and how to support the patient to avoid hypoxia and further adverse events.

    I was given Versed before I signed my surgical consent forms. I was non-combative and fairly calm but I wouldnt let the nurse take my glasses as it was not time to go to the OR yet and I cannot see without them. so she drugged me. I dont remember much after that. not signing consent or the ride to the OR. I do rmeember entering the OR and switching tables because they wouldnt let me stand.. had me slide over instead and my gown, blanket and both iv's got tangled.. then that cow grinned at me with a needle in her hand and gave me more Versed. I was in the OR for 90 minutes before they anesthetized me. In that time my surgeon obtained verbal consent for students to do vaginal/rectal exams on me. I do not remember anything. The horrors my mind has conjured up about that 90 minutes is severe tho. the nightmares.. crying all the time. I now hate doctors. I hate nurses. I hate the anesthesiologist that had the power to stop this and did nothing. I will die before I let you f*ckers touch me again.

But I had one this yr when Ihad gastroenteritis and was throwin up.. Its actually 10x worse bc while you cant breathe you still wanna throw up so you have to try to not throw up up while trying to cough to get some air. i get this spasm out of nowhere. sometimes i just swallow saliva wrong, or breathe wrong, or i can even just sniffle and it might cause it. it's like my throat gets confused with what is air and what is something i'm supposed to swallow. it's terrifying. i'm 80 years old and it exhausts me to get thru an attack. i'm afraid the older i get i won't have the strength to do it. i haven't seen it mentioned but for me the spasm creates a lot of saliva with air bubbles and i've learned to stand over the kitchen sink and spit out everything i can and try not to swallow it, just try to get rid of it and at the same time i'm panicking to get air. i do have acid reflux but i've not had a spasm because something was coming up in my throat, it's always been related to swallowing.

    I have been a critical care nurse for 17 years and a few months ago I moved to PACU. I noticed my first few days there I felt dizzy and a little nauseous. I just thought I had a bug. But over a few months I noticed I repeatedly had those symptoms and only while at work. I never called off or anything and nobody else seemed to have this issue. I really thought it was in my head. After three months I just felt PACU wasn’t for me and transferred back to my old unit. I’ve not felt dizzy since. This video makes me wonder if I was just more sensitive to the WAG than other nurses.

  • @lindamist7051
    @lindamist7051 8 месяцев назад

    I have had three laryngospasms and I was terrified as I thought I was going to die. Could vomiting bring on an attack as it feels like acid in the throat doesnt help. If you were vomiting and it happened you would surely choke on vomit as it couldnt come up? This terrifies me.

    • @pacunursingminutes
      @pacunursingminutes 8 месяцев назад

      Linda, it would be wise to be evaluated by an ENT if this is a frequent occurrence for you. Secretions can and do trigger laryngospasm. You may need to be evaluated for any anatomical abnormality.
