I have a Mini Commander and CQC Mini 15. Love them both. Only complaint is the wave, even tho invented by Erie Emerson, doesn't work as reliably as Spyderco waves for me. This style blade seems to have a more pronounced wave. I'm going to get one. And yes, both of mine have that squeak, seems to get better with age. Thanks for the review

My XHD Sheepdog had the same symptoms you described. I was amazed at how loudly it squeaked. I disassembled it and found the problem to be the detent ball. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, but I don't lube them since the lube invariably gets transferred to the lock face and causes lock stick. To keep it running smoothly, I used KPI Heavy Knife Pivot Lube. I find that it lasts longer than most other knife lubes. Once the XHD was re-assembled, it was completely quiet and incredibly smooth. Also, the lock stick was completely gone.

Just got one, my first Emerson! A useful work of art. The blade is surprisingly practical, but yeah, it looks evil. Solid review, definitely reflects my preliminary impression. And mine has that scallop too :)

This was a really good video. I own both a Counter Strike and a Tiger, and agree completely with your review. Both the blade shape and the handle design are incredible. The noise you talk about seems to come from the detent ball traveling across the blade. If you push in the lock and then move the blade back and forth, you should not hear any noise. I found that taking the knife apart and cleaning the ball and then blowing it off occasionally helped to minimize the noise until it is fully broken in. I would not use any lubrication since it will wind up on the lock face and cause lock stick.

I just started collecting this week and have two Protech Calmigo’s (black SWAT model and a Rose Gold accent model) I have a Kershaw Launch 4 on the way and a purchased but on back order HK Micro Incursion. Wish I would have watched the review earlier. 4/9 was my 65th birthday and I bought myself the Commander Balisong as a present to myself. After popping the latch and checking the knife out - LOVE the knife btw and my preferences for the wave and jimping are the same as your's - I could not relock the latch and was getting pissed. Now I see that it's adjustable lol!! I missed out on the earlier drops because I spent 2 weeks in the hospital, and was surprised to find some recently at BladeHQ. I initially ordered the waveless Longhorn, but when I saw that they also had some Commanders thought "Nope. THAT'S the one I want" and called to change the order. I'm digging the knife the knife, although after badly lacerating my right forearm severing nerves and tendons I can no longer do the flipping I used to do with my old Pacific Cutlery balis in the early 80's as I have no longer have much feeling in several fingers. No matter though. I can still do a simple quick flip opening if I need to, and I plan to put this into my mostly Emerson rotation as a user. Good video Roe. Thanks and thumbs up!

Well you can own otfs and butterfly knifes in California as a “collector”, you just can’t carry it on your person.

You can own any automatic or OTF in california just not carry in public

Finally someone who speaks my issue with the mini small knife world thing. Small knives small knives driving us into all these small knives that are being pumped out. Ok i get there are alot of small hands out but when i have a size handle in my hand i feel confident. I guess being in the construction field my Hinderer knives and my emerson knives just hold up and never let me down.

Omgsh I would have LOVED to have snagged one of these! I was in the hospital for 3 weeks when these first came out and after was just thinking of getting back on my feet. A member on an Emerson FaceBook group mentioned this morning that he had missed out on an XHD last night on Ebay that went for $550, but not sure if it was a Commander or not. That's how I found your video. Had to find out what an XHD was. I've been collecting Emersons since 98 or 99 and my favorite has always been the Commander. As I type I have a Mini BT in Desert Tan G-10 with black liners and a carbon fiber clip. I also have a standard Super Commander and 9 others in varying configurations but mostly carry the Mini, but I would love this knife! My new Emerson quest!
