Michigan- Crisis Intervention System (MI-CIS)
Добавлен 23 фев 2018
A national model for comprehensive mental health education for police officers, EMS and other first responders.
The creation of MI-CIS in 2016 stemmed from what the Michigan Health Endowment Fund identified as a need for improved training for first responders who deal regularly with people and patients in the field with acute behavioral conditions. With the implementation of the grant, the hope is to improve the safety of first responders and citizens, and diverting those in need of mental health treatment from incarceration.
The grant is part of a collaborative effort by WMed, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and Kalamazoo County Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Develop and implement a sustainable, vertically and horizontally integrated, inter-professional educational curriculum targeting emergency responders who are likely to encounter individuals with acute (or acute on chronic) behavioral health conditions.
Horrible.. trash and traumatising
i wonder how many of these crisis' are just family arguments with hardly a shred of evidence for mental health crisis most of the time. people should tell the truth about these situations not just show an "emotionally ill" person.
I find it pretty telling that the US health care system puts a suicidal person in a Jail instead a proper facility to get treated for their health condition.
Is that a guy?
That's bullshit putting that man in county jail that's not gonna help him with anything. Those cops look so dumb and ignorant taking that poor man there.

Horrible with aiming guns.
If you really want to kill yourself, you wouldn't be drawing attention to yourself out in public; any where. You would do it inside a house, or wait until night and do it somewhere in an isolated area where no one can see you and prevent you. In this video, this guy would have done it instantly no matter what, without any hesitations. All he's doing is only drawing attention to himself. The lady in the bathroom, she wants someone to find her. If not, she would have left the campus and gone in the woods to do it. They are not actually suicidal. If so, they would have instantly done it without any second thoughts. They are only crying out for help, but the wrong way. They are only being attention seekers this way; unknowingly seeking for help this way. There are 3 types of attention seekers, 1. Only to get a reaction to see what people would really do; claiming to be seriously suicidal. 2. Just to get their way in what they really want; tantrum when not getting their way. 3. Pranking people for attention; get and see what their reaction will be. 4. Seeking for help from someone, but not the right way. How do I know all these? I have seen them, been treated that way with # 2, by an ex-friend for not getting her way. I knew what she was really doing from the start, and I told her I don't care. I wasn't giving her attention from me that she wanted. She was shocked to the point of having dumb founded expression and was speechless. Seen so many prank videos of suicides. And I am suicidal myself. I try attempting them in "my" house; renting it, but when they fail and my triggers are getting worse; too much, I talk to my therapist about them. I would be gone right now if I had my own gun. But, I am not allowed to have any because of this. Now you know how I know all these stages in suicide.
Bro if someone is about to jump dont put them in a jail idiot put them in a hospital so they can get evaluated
this shit is gross. how can you treat people like that throwing them in a cell or an exam room to be alone and dwell on there unwanted thoughts. fuck the police
Putting people in jail as if they’re criminals. Noooo no no
This is the most stigmatizing video of a so-called "crisis intervention" approach that I've seen. It criminalizes people experiencing extreme psychological distress (handcuffing someone wanting to die by suicide). The people and situations portrayed in this video should be met with healthcare workers with psychiatric training, not flashing lights, guns, and handcuffs.
IKR!!
100% agree when I was in a hard spot I found out asking the police to shoot you they will not shoot you there taser you I was fortunate that the cop know me and did not arrest me just took me to the ER
I truly understand, my friends dad is police officer and deals with these calls alot, the police use cuffs to stop the person from injuring them or others for example one of his crew members took a call of suicidal man and he didn't cuff him but the man took his gun and shot him self. All police now have to cuff them to protect them from causing harm to themselves. The gun situation, u shouldn't hold a gun at the person face during mental crisis, it makes situation more worse. But most of all they are training in this video, in real life some of the stuff aren't used in real life.
Why you putting them in handcuffs and bringing them to jail nah? These people need help they don’t deserve jail like I’m so confused. These people literally just tried committing suicide they need mental help.
These restraints unfortunately are necessary Jessie Rae, I've been on the side where as a prison guard I've had to restrain a prisoner. It's for everyone's safety and isn't barberic. Please don't criticize unless you have figured out some wonderful new way to keep everyone safe.
How was your experience is it difficult to do ? I’m about to interview for a hospital job and work in a mental ward and will have to do this.
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
I LIVE IN MICHIGAN
Also each provider who is allowing this should have to spend 24 hrs like this Your method will change.
Hi Jessie. We are teaching medical personnel how to effectively and safely apply "soft restraints" (which do not cause injury) to patients who are totally out of control and combative when there is no sedative medication available. For instance, when a person is experiencing excited delirium. If not, these patients would not be able to be safely transported to the hospital. In addition, this method helps to ensure a proper airway and to place the person in the proper position in order to avoid positional asphyxiation. This is also a short-term method from the scene to the hospital where restraints are removed after transport. If we did not teach the proper method of soft restraint applications- both responders and patients would be injured. This method is used to protect both.
I have in my younger years had to be placed in 4 point restraints similar position as this and from experience I can tell you I was left in this position at times for longer than 5 hours and is the main reason why my arms cannot extend above my head without pain even after I have gone through massage therapy. So I don’t think the one up one down arm restraining is safe from a patient perspective
Ross Johnson as someone who was restrained “ for behavior modification “ I would spend days in them. Mind I haven’t been restrainted since 2012 but bc of a hospital I gave up on fighting back and accepted it was ok what they did. But it’s not I have Ptsd now bc of it.
I've willing been in restraints like this for 24 hours. And its amazing
HI 😀
Stop using mid evil methods as treatment
Or let the professionals do their job?????
@@amberwalters8458 what do you mean? As a person who has been at the receiving end of being restrained both to help me & those who used their " power " in acute settings to do more harm than good. I beleive I have a valid point & argument against restraints. No one should be subjected to them.
Ok then what about the people who beat themselves up without a restraint, and also what about the first responders who get attacked from their patients if they are not restrained? Law enforcement clearly used restraints especially within a jail to calm an inmate, which I gurantee is more forceful and painful than an ems restraint.
And also your essentially saying that every paramedic is a horrible person for using these restraints.
@@amberwalters8458 I cant change a mind ( yours ) already made. I'm saying all physicians need to be better educated around them. So please stop putting words in my mouth. You don't know what I've been through & with your Attitude I doubt you will ever understand.
