    I work as an license appliance repair technician here in Alberta Calgary. How I got started? I was working in a warehouse that sell appliance as a warehouse clerk, after a few years working I walked up to the appliance repair manager and asked for an opportunity, luckily got it and started it. they first trained me in the shop for about a year, a no stress, spacious environment where I could learn and make my own mistake, during that period I slowly learn and gather up for more tools that I actually need, after a year they put me through the schooling and started putting me out onto the field with some other technician first, from there I learn more. After a few months I started going out on my own. Now I changed to commercial appliance repair, better $ but sometimes I miss those stress free days working in the shop.

    The one thing about warranty work is it is a good filler. It will fill your day and while it’s not as profitable, you can fill a techs day with it easily and still come out far enough ahead to say it’s worth it. Also, it’s free advertising. Visit 1 warranty job in a home and do a great job, that person will more than likely call you back when it’s a cod job. Warranty work keeps you moving as well. If your vehicle is going everywhere, it’s exposed to thousands of people daily who see that billboard on wheels)

    You revealed one of my secrets. When even the 90° tool doesn't work I use the micro wrench. I usually use a larger (like double sided) bit instead of the short ones to make it easier. If its difficult I use my other hand to apply pressure. Also another secret, I keep the 90° angle drive adapter at home and use the dealt pivoting bit adapter. It locks onto 180° (keeping it straight) and when pushed out it moorings to freely rotate up to 20° I think. Its only slightly larger than a traditional bit holder saving a bit of space and bulk, and work 95% of what the right angle adapter does. It does start to jamb over time so I keep a small hammer or pliers I tap with to get it loose. Still worth every penny. *edit* I had paused the video to comment but after resuming I noticed one in the bits box. I guess it's good to carry both but when carrying it around with other essentials as I do, it makes a difference to cut down on bulk and weight.

    That NC voltage meter can save your life. Had a fellow appliance tech go to check a washer and dryer and the dryer was shorted and had voltage going through the entire dryer. He didn’t know that, he went to look behind the appliances, put one hand on the dryer and one on washer and made himself a path of least resistance. He died at the customers house unfortunately. So before I touch an appliance, I use that volt sniffer to see if an appliance is shorted by any chance.

What do you do in that situation when there is a coating over all the compenents and the back side where the solder joints are ?

    • @theapplianceprofit

    • @HereOnYouTubeCommenting
      @HereOnYouTubeCommenting 5 месяцев назад

      @@theapplianceprofit well to check components i need to get to the component legs but i cant because they have that thick gel coat over everything. If i don't have voltages at the harness outputs, something is wrong within the components that i need to check but i cant ... Not without using some kind of knife or something to scrape that coating off but thats a lot of work to trouble shoot down to the component level when you got that gook all over it ...

    • @theapplianceprofit
      @theapplianceprofit 5 месяцев назад

      Oh I see, you are wanting to test board level components. Yeah, most appliance repair companies don't perform board level repairs, we just replace the entire board when we determine the board is at fault.

    • @HereOnYouTubeCommenting
      @HereOnYouTubeCommenting 4 месяца назад

      @@theapplianceprofit Well i had to trouble shoot 2 of them 3 weeks ago and one board was clearly bad, as i opened the panel i could smell burnt components, 5 poped caps, 2 burnt resistors and one burnt voltage rectifier. That was an obvious board failure. The other was appeared to be fine, no obvious bad components, but when you power it up, you could hear a relay clicking on and off and an led light blinking to the relay click on and off, the inside fridge light was also blinking to the relay, so was the thermostat control panel ... After un-plugging 3 times to try and reset, nothing, still kept doing the same thing so i un-plugged all the harness' and powered back up and same clicking issue so i said its done, needs a new board.
