      Hi, yes. I have 3 bicycles: Standard trek bike 29´´ - I use it only for bike trip with luggage (tent, sleep bag and so) - for realy long rides. Then I have brompton bike - I dont use it from time, when I bought helix. And Helix I use most of the time. I still like it very much. For its light, comfort ride and easy folding. Only think which dont work so well is shimano alfine hub 11 speed - it some times switch to different gear and make "crack" sounds. It happens probably from offen foldings/unfoldings.

      @@duritraveller thx for the prompt reply as I am considering acquiring a helix with the 11 speed alfine. I have a Cannondale Hooligan bike with the 11 speed alfine as well and find 2nd gear slips occasionally. The 8 speed alfine I have in my Moulton bike never slips at all.

      @@davel2734 I was on local bikeservice to ask what can I do with 11 alfine to fix it, and they say me, that 8 and 11 alfine have the same body, but in 11 is more components and there is not enought space - there fore it happens. On 8 alfine it works smoothly. So If I had this information before, I will order clasic shift gear (lighter and cheaper version).

    I like brompton and just recently learned about the helix. What an awesome bike, which combines the versatility of the brompton with the stability of larger wheels. For touring a fantastic option. Now just for anyone watching - the brompton doesn‘t fold open if the saddle is down. That locks the bike into position.

      I use mainly HELIX so if I will have only one - it will be HELIX. The reason is - I like it very much. The ride is more like usual bike. Brompton is also comfortable, but with small wheels it feels different. HELIX have beautiful designe. Bromptom can I fast fold and unfold. It is more practical when you travel with train or public transport (Brompton). I use HELIX for ride around my home and take it with my car to nature. So I not use it daily for work. If I will go to work with bus, I will prefer the Brompton for transport in short distances.

    Hi, thanks for the videos explaining the helix bike, they're really useful! I was wondering if you could tell us about your experience with the Alfine 11 hub, and if you found it reliable and how to tune it? I am deciding between the Alfine and derailleur version. Thanks :)

    • @duritraveller
      @duritraveller Год назад

      Hi, I made decission for order Alfine 11, because I expected almost zero maintanance, no dirt, user friendly and change gear when I standing (on traffic light or so) without pedaling. It is somehow works this way, but happens quite offen, that the gear skip to another. I was ask in bike servis and they told me, that Alfine 11 have in small space a lot components and this happend. On alfine 8 gear it works better. So if I will order Helix again, I will probably buy standard gear (derailleur). It is more then 1kg light and price is more friendly. But I can not say, that my Alfine 11 version is heavy and not usefull. I only have this small difficulties sometimes.

    Advantages of internal gears: Internal gear changes should be made while pedaling is stopped. = The bicycle can be shifted while stationary = It can be shifted in advance when the user stops at a traffic light in the city and can start immediately stably when the signal changes. In South Korea, there are many hills that suddenly appear in the city. The user can perfectly respond to the sudden slope through the internal gear 😄

    Wow thanks so much man! That answers all my questions. The trolley mode looks quite uncomfortable on the helix indeed. And I think it you have any luggage on it while folded it will easily topple over. I like bringing my brompton as a trolley to the supermarket, I think with some modifications the I could make it work on the helix too

    • @duritraveller
      @duritraveller Год назад

      Hi man. I need explain diferent folding between brompton and helix. Brompton you fold to "itself" - after folding the frame is protecting brake levers, shifter lever and on back wheel derailleur. And when you unfold handles - it is in "twist" position - so luggage rack is heading to middle of bike. On the other hand helix if folding "beside" frame, so brake disk is heading ot from bike, on the other side is unprotected chain and handles is also heading brake levers out from bike. So in folding position is bromptom much better protectet it self when I put it to car trunk for example. I dont care about brompton. Helix is unprotected from all side, and I am afraid about sensitive parts (brake disk, chain...). And on helix when is foldet and you unfold only handlebars - they heading out from bike (like on ride position). So if you put luggage rack, it will be "out from bike". Not in middle as on brompton (in the center of balance). And next important point - helix is more unstable when is folded and you want leave it stand. I have brompton with back rack with 4 wheels and it stand on it wery solid. I must say - this 2 bikes are totaly different and it is almost impossible compare them. From my experience - brompton is very functional bike with 40 years history and development. So there is almost every detail develop to funcionality. It is build for travel with public transport, for cycling urban roads in short distances with his 20inch wheels. You can very easy and fast fold und unfold it. Helix is developed for more classic ride with his 24inch wheels. Also ride position is more natural and very comfort. Folding and unfold is also fast, but not as fast as brompton. In folded position is little bigger, but is slim. It is easily rolling on his front big wheel (there is no small wheels - it is only fixed rubber rings for stand). Weight is simmilar. But to be honest - I prefer helix for his designe, ride charakteristics, bigger wheels... but still I can say, that brompton is more practical.

      Hi, I have also brompton and I know what you mean. Brompton is mooving in folded position by small wheels. On Helix is it little different. You can push Helix in folded position by holding seat (handlebar is not comfortbale), but it is little in angle to side and you move it on his own front wheel. Look at helix web site (helix.ca) or on youtube and you will see how it works.
