Outsourcing is the norm in the modern game industry. For the average game, there is simply too much to be done in terms of programming, game design, asset creation, to manage under a single in-house production pipeline. I agree with your point on how outsourcing can lead to blurred development visions. It reminds me of when Square Enix pulled the plug on CyberConnect2 for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project. With this project being a 10+ year investment regarding their biggest IP, I think they made the right call to do it in-house instead, as the vision simply had to be perfect. Furthermore, It's another interesting topic! The average consumer still thinks Nintendo makes the Smash Bros. and Pokémon games lol. That being said, most outsourcing is done within the context of co-development. So where a game like you mention, SF4, was largely programmed and playtested within Dimps, the "important" shots were still being called by Capcom producers, Art Directors, etc. With this in mind, I agree there will always be a loss of vision the bigger (and more divided) a development team gets, but in my opinion the degree to which this happens will largely depend on the level of mutual communication between critical parties.
I remember playing Spyro Remastered and having to stop because it made me feel so nauseous to play...and thats coming from someone that doesn't usually have issues with games
@@EerieCipher Was it just the remastered version of the games or did the originals have the same effect? I haven't played the originals at all but played the first 4 (4!) ages ago and had no problems.
Clearly, you've never played just cause 4
@@paladin9599 Nope
Ngl it's kinda sad that people in the comments don't even bother to respond to anything in the video just because they're the exact people mentioned here - the ones that just feel fine and don't even think about how others might not be able to play the game. Iirc the exact same thing happened with pizza tower, I remember reading somewhere about how one guy just had to take breaks after 1-2 levels for also having motion sickness from everything that was going on in the levels. And just dismissing all of that is really immature ngl and feels like they're not above age of 15. Like imagine if Nintendo in response to virtual boy causing issues with eyes just said "We don't care"
@@JustDenys1 I think people can see it's an issue for some but as I mentioned, I normally don't get nausea or headaches when playing games, so if I saw something about accessibility and whatnot before, I didn't think about it much. I mean, they don't seem malicious or anything like that, just not fully considerate for some reason.
@@babiluki simply, they're selfish. They don't care about other people's experiences and don't see why they should care. To them, it a game is too hard, or has limited accessibility options, that's your problem just don't play the game. They've never had to not play a game, so they don't know how to feels to be physically blocked from playing something they enjoy. If you look even deeper, you'll probably find they're also the people that don't care about other important issues that affect other people. Even if they were simply unaware, the normal response to people bringing up an issue you know nothing about is to familiarise yourself with it, even if it's just so you can tear down arguments by writing long winded articles about how it's the "creators vision" or whatever. But here they are completely and utterly dismissive. They see no reason for anyone to discuss it in ANY space, even disability spaces. You didn't demand anyone do anything, simply shared your experience. And their response is to (badly) attempt to put you down. They didn't even try to share their own experience as a counter to yours. I think the original commenter is right in that they're children. They don't even know how to reply to something they disagree with yet. All they know how to do is be like a toddler, laughing at someone else. Not even able to mock properly. They think every space is theirs, and that's it's normal to bust in, laugh at everyone, and run away, while all the normal people look at them like they're crazy. They don't even *realise* how stupid they look. They don't have that brain yet. And one day when they do finally have issues, they'll be crying and raging about how stupid the game developer is and how awful the game is and it SUCKS and the creator should be ASHAMED yada yada whatever. They'll be glad for these things when they get older, so it's really sad they're acting this way now. They'll be pretty embarrassed.
ahem... not to sound rude... but... womp womp.
You clearly said that to be rude, are you a liar or just stupid 🤨
I believe the developers would be more than happy to help fix this! They are currently working on fixing many things and they would probably take your criticism into consideration. I enjoyed Antonblast, I found the game funny, charming and cool at the same time, so I'm sad to here that this happened because everyone should have the opportunity to experience any form of media no matter what. I really hope the devs see this video and fix the game
@@Someonethefunnyone The developers seem deeply passionate so if they can do something, I'm definitely gonna finish it! (I would understand if it's not their #1 priority though, so fingers crossed)

Maybe Antonblast is meant to be a nauseating, chaotic experience. Games are not a necessity, or something meant to make life easier. Accessibility options can take up a lot of time to develop, and it's only for the benefit of a small percentage of players. Sometimes the accessibility features diminish the artists' vision. It's good when developers do implement those features, but it shouldn't be demanded. I don't even think a food delivery app should be required to have accessibility features. Those apps will suffer for it as their competitors choose to cater to a highly dependent repeat customer base.
Antonblast is supposed to be a really destructive and chaotic game. Like Disastrously chaotic which yeah some people will be having some problems with it. But most players are mostly intrigued about the shaky screen and stuff exploding all over your screen. Which to all gamers is just satisfying but Antonblast really did overdid it a little. I do believe that they could maybe add more options for all kinds of player. Or just make the camera a little further away from Anton and decrease the speed and length of the camera panning a bit will probably give you less nausea and maybe have another setting to literally turn off all sorts of shaking for someone that just wants a pleasant time viewing the game. Overall for now tho. The game is still fire for me. The story the bosses and all.
@@shadboncoolest5960 It always makes me happy when people enjoy ne games, so great to hear you're loving it! I think the camera and the flashing sprites would be the biggest things that would help me out, not so much the business.
You can turn of all screen shaking just turn the number to show 0/5 and I think it does have some other options but even if I don't get sick of it and love how wild it is (because that was the main selling point) I do think more options should be in there. Removing hit stop and camera shake is a good start
When I started playing the game on my first playthrough, the shakiness of the camera was a little too much for me. Luckily, I turned it off in the settings and was able to complete the game.
this makes me super bummed, i seek out stuff like Anton but i hadnt even realized how this could be too much for some.

!The Metroid Prime footage is all from the original. Just imagine it's blurrier!
24:00 so much bullshit flying out of your mouth. Many games have different themed areas. Super Mario Bros.3 had different themed worlds. Mega Man has different themes for all robot master stages. As soon as graphics allowed for more details, developers started to create diverse environments. And for some areas in those side scrolling rpgs games, many are not making sense, having ice and fire regions right next to each other, or having water levels floating somewhere they should not belong. Other side scrolling adventures avoid too different areas because the developers couldn't handle it. Seen it all. And think about it. Over 3,000 recommendations when you look up metroidvania? That should tell us all what is wrong there. Think how many games the Sega Genesis, Super NES, NES, Master System, Playstation 1 etc do have ombined. And now tell me how many of all those games are action adventures. But there are over 3,000 indie metroidvanias? Bullshit.
I don't understand what you're saying.
Indie devs use this "metroidvania" formula because it is not a defined genre but a vague term you can interpret in whatver you need it to be. Just look up oficial genre charts and tell me where this metroidvania would pop up? Spoiler - it doesn't. What people now label as "metroidvnias" is a wild mix of different genres like rpgs, action adventures, raw platformers and other randomly chosen elements. And those games are easy to make. Especially those without proper slopes. The only things devs care about are labyrinth level structure, map system, some key elements you need to progress. Most games have bad upgrade systems (like Hollow Knight,a game that doesn't tell you about its rigged nail upgrade system that secretly makes enemies stronger, which leaves your spells useless on later bosses). There are more games out now labelled "metroidvania" than all legitimate side scrolling action adventures combined. That should make one think.
The history of the metroidvania term. not genre. And the history of usage of this nonsensical term started in 2001/02 when a random guy labelled Castlevania games "similar" to Super Metroid as metroidvanias, hence the GBA titles from the Castlevania franchise. No other side scrolling action adventure was meant to be called that. And it was not a genre term as such since it does not describe the games. It is just a joke term refering to "metroid like Castlevania games". So when YOU guys talk about metroidvania, what YOU say to a person like me is this: "Metroid like Castlevania like". Yeah, this! And having played many side scrolling action adventures (<- genre), most of your metroidvanias are either like Metroid without Symphony of the Night elements or straight out Symphony of the Night style action adventures. There is never a real need for a new term. Both Metroid games and Symphony of the Night style games are side scrolling action adventures, with SotN adding light rpg elements to the formula. With that out, the history of "metroidvania" starts on a forum in 2001/02 with a guy making up a jióke term. The rest is the history of Metroid and Castlevania. You need to learn actual game history and the actual use of genre terms.
☝️🤓
The joke term is what everyone knows (if what you're saying is true). I don't see how metroidvania is not a genre descriptor, as it describes the expected mechanical elements in these types of games. You are free to use side-scrolling action adventure as a genre but nobody at the moment will know what you mean, unless you explain to them (as you did). Anyway, it's all fine and good, and my point about games being more similar to Symphony of the Night than Metroid might have been made too swiftly, so I get where you're coming from there.

Merry Christmas Babiluki! I'm a big fan of hollow knight but I couldn't find anything similar. A Chrismas version of it is the best christmas gift you could give 😍
Yes, I also believe that the budget is the essential pillar. As an indie developer, often you don't have the money or time for 3D: models, animations, debugging, testing... 2D lets them focus and polish. But making a 2D game to play only on a main plane (side scrolling) limits the reuse of levels and can become disapointing nowadays (games like Retro's DKCs try to compensate with huge amounts of secrets). And a top-down game limits the credibility granted by the physics of gravity (on this age of engines and real physics simulation) and makes you renounce most of the mechanics associated with the 2D perspective, its years of traditions and distillation. Top-down is mostly RPGs. Next step: since you make expansive environments in 4 directions to take advantage of two-dimensionality, why not interconnect everything? Also: indie devs are gamers, we should take mimesis into account. I hope the best for this channel! You're chosing good topics.
Thanks for your insights! Even Symphony of the Night was a budget title Konami made for PSX to cater to that market, while they did a big 3d game for the N64. So, I think, these budget titles CAN be amazing. As for my videos, my hope is to be able to deliver entertaining and informative content, with my own style. I'm constantly trying to improve in all different directions, so if things go in a direction you think is not the best, your comments definitely help.
another indie game genre that are so saturated are farming sims. btw, you talked so slow i had to watch the vid at 1.25x speed. 😅
Farming sims is not a genre that I'm personally interested in, so I never really pay attention to them, but thanks for the heads up. My slow talking is me trying to sound as clear as possible, but I'll see what I'll do about it in the future.
I was so disappointed when I learned the Grinch doesn't actually appear in the game whatsoever!
@@stomboyyuffie Dickens and Seuss should write a Batman v Superman style crossover at some point.
Good stuff buddy
Thanks!
this is the wrong take. elden ring combines highly detailed dungeon crafting from the souls games with an open world experience. it doesn't take away from it. i'm playing through dark souls 1 now after elden ring and the elden ring castles are better designed.
I don't see how they combined the dungeon design with the open world at all. The levels are now reachable via a large map, instead of being interwoven. If that's well designed, Rayman Revolution is a masterpiece.
The level design in Elden Ring legacy dungeon is better than most of other Souls areas in previous games - Taken alone those are easily 30 hours of gameplay in itself. The side-castles are also not that bad, with some highlights (e.g. Caria Manor) which while not exceptional are also better than a bunch of other Souls levels in the past (e.g. Caria Manor has much better design and progression than something like New Londo or Byrgenwerth). While the caves/catacombs etc. can be quite repetitive in assets and enemy, they all have their own unique level design and unique items as well, which in the context of an open-world game is incredible. Moreover you fail to acknowledge how there are plenty of very intricate catacombs as well (such as the Leyndell and Darklight catacombs). This without acknowledging how well executed is the layout of the world itself, the amount of unique locations, enemies and different topology within the open-world. This is further highlighted in the DLC where the world itself becomes one huge intricate level with tons of verticality (which is something the base-game still does to a lesser degree with areas like Mount-Gelmir or Siofra River).
I acknowledge a lot of those dungeons have unique features. That doesn't make them uniquely interesting, though, because there were only so many assets the developers had to work with. You'll keep seeing the same walls and gargoyles everywhere, which is visually detrimental. Their level design is fine, but I didn't get the feeling I was exploring any particular cave/dungeon, just area #351 or depths #943. As for most of the main story areas, I liked Raya Lucaria well enough, but most were just big open fields. Granted, big open fields where you pull a lever to lower an elevator to go to a different level, but big open fields nonetheless. Just not what I'm looking for. Hence, my disappointment in the end.
Your take on this is trash af bro. I know ppl personally who have never played a souls type game and ER turned out to be their first. Which they very much enjoyed and are now playing other fromsoftware games.
How does people enjoying this game relate to my take?
Good work on missing the point. Let’s not lie about the objective truth in Elden Rings open world lacking substance. It’s a masterpiece but the point is to highlight how the level design doesn’t not even operate in the same echelon as say a Bethesda title.
@@jacksoncoyne4890ah yes Bethesda’s masterpiece of world and level design…. Starfield
@ I’m not referring to Starfield. Even so, that title has more substance in its handcrafted locations.
@@jacksoncoyne4890 I don't understand your point. You're saying Elden Ring's level design is not deep and Bethesda level design is, therefore Elden Ring is a masterpiece and I'm wrong?
I think another reason why Metroidvania experiences are so popular, relates to the interconnected worlds on a technical level. Namely the fact that, you as the player, are always in control of the character. Sure there might be a small loading door or elevator, but the downtime associated with world map screens is mitigated entirely. In the end, control = immersion.
What are games where you're not in control of the character at all times? Or are you talking cutscenes?
@@babiluki I'm referring to direct control. Cutscenes are the most obvious example, but also something like Donkey Kong Country map screen, which only offers limited control to the player. Furthermore, these level transitions can come with long load times, which would be my third example. Any of these situations "take you out" of the experience, and alter the pacing in ways outside of the player's CONTROL. For this reason, I think the Castlevania SOTN transition room (with the two angel decorations) is a brilliant solution to maintaining player control between areas. And also, why I think Metroid Dread's egregiously long elevator/teleport station loading times hurt the game's pacing more than people realize.
@@stomboyyuffie That's what I also meant in my video. THe world feels bigger and more cohesive, because you can walk between areas directly.

I haven't played it, but Elden Ring appears to prove how Souls' mainstream appeal lies in its combat challenges. Seeing as how casuals massively prefer Elden Ring over the earlier titles. As you said, the biggest difference lies in traversal, exchanging complexity with freedom. For me personally, the combat aspects are only interesting in the context of the complex level design, which is part of why I haven't bothered with Elden Ring.
@@stomboyyuffie Yeah, I just kept looking for that enthralling level design in Elden Ring, but 99% of the time, it just isn't there.
