This Channel is focused around 3 tenets: Creation, Customization & Innovation.
1. Creation will very often take the form of DIY in all its forms, whether it be a project on the house or crafting something from scratch.
2. Customization will leverage the concept of making something fit within your domain. Very often, great things have been made, but lack a certain something to make it feel like your own.
3. Innovation is focused not so much on our channel bringing life to something new, but showing that it exists so that maybe it may impact your life in a meaningful way.
Above all, this channel is a forum meant for fun exploration in something new or a shared passion; either by the channel, the audience or both. This channel was created as a way to pay-it-forward, based on the inspiration derived from so many other content creators. I hope that you too are inspired to create, customize and innovate...to share with all those you know.

What's inside a Simpson TV FM Signal Generator | Hunting for Greebles
So, my Grandpa was fascinated with the new TV technology and chased this passion both in hobby and in his collegiate studies. All despite his father’s protests, who saw it as a path with no future. He desired his son to follow in his footsteps of music. My Grandpa excelled in electronics, which took him in different path from TV's in his career, but not in his hobbies. His garage and mancave, which the family called the "bat cave" was always flooded with unique tools and test equipment centering around Televisions.

Greebles Kitbash | December 2023 Holiday Greebles Gift Exchange
My early days were in that era. When I see things like that, I smell a heady mix of cigarette smoke, hot dust, traces of ozone, and warm wire insulation. I'm drawn to the black knobs. I have no good ideas as to what to do with them, though. ... Medallions on post WW4 headhunter's necklace? Pasties on an ancient pleasure droid in a Coruscant museum? <-I don't think so. I got nothin'. Sorry. (-; ••• PEACES!!!
Wow, that is a cornucopia of word pictures. 😂 Yea, I’m old enough to remember the environments you describe very well. I still feel a bit bad even taking this item apart. But ebay has more should I decide I need one. I just can’t help seeing what’s inside things. I love all the switches and crystal lights and unique items inside that have fantastic shapes
I love the front panel and all the switches. the sockets for the large fuses look like the interior iris of a robot/ droid eye
I know right!!! I loved it very thing about this piece. I only have ish my house was big enough for a themed room of all the genres I like. But alas, I thought it better to grab what I liked best for a Star Wars build and share with everyone else who may have never known this item exists. Pretty sure what has some of these for moderate prices
Wow!! I would have not taken thst apart...lol
Seems like sacrilege is my specialty. Brouhaha But it’s true, this piece is spectacular all in its own. And if I was making a theme room other than Star Wars, I would have kept it as is
I am not sure I would do ANYTHING to that whole front panel!!! That is a work of sci-fi art!
Very true. I have had this gem for 2 years. Ultimately I had to realize I was making a Star Wars room. Not fallout or another theme that would fit this. So sacrifices were made.
How can I split the USB receptacle so half can be always on (black wire) and the other controlled by the switch on the wall (red wire), while the USBs are always on?
I personally have not seen a USB outlet that works that way. There are so many different variants it would be hard to say. I did a cursory search and it appears there is a niche demand for such a product but I couldn’t find one that boasts of such a setup. Very often the outlets themselves are much larger to account for the step down transformer which often adds to only being one terminal for each wire (ground, hit and neutral). So there is no tab to be broken to make a split switch configuration. So you will most likely have ti look up your requirement and look one by one. Smart switches may be another option to research that may offer close to what you want. Good luck. If you find one, please let me know. I’d love to learn something new
the buttons are fun; the heatsink would be good to just slap onto an empty place; I would full an open box with a rim for all the circuit boards and dust with black and silver.
Totally !!! Those are spot on ideas!!! I loved that heatsink. Maybe have the heatsink and caps pop up through recessed panels
It's time to bring all those greeblies to the exterior of that case after painting it. Run some LEDs, add a few switches, and you will have a (RFT Unit) Rebel Field Transponder.
Very cool idea. I’d love to see that come to fruition.
I love the shape of the box alone! That thing screams make me into something!!
Yea, the carcass is really cool. So much potential for an awesome prop My favorite parts are the massive heatsink and huge caps. But every part of this is a home run part
Maybe the motor could be used to animate a droid and trimmer section could be teeth for some sort of animal.
Awesome ideas. I think prop sets and wall builds so much I never think of other things like cosplay or animals or droids. Good call and imagination For me I liked the motor and switch. Maybe automate something in a prop build. And I like the steel baubles at the end
Helpful video as I need to do this to my car because it’s reading the front for the rear tire and rear tire for the front 😂👍🏻
Happy to hear it was helpful. I hope it helps you fix the problem
The grey, blue and red parts under the keys caught my eye to maybe be light holders
I love the pragmatic use to hold the leds. Sometimes I think I way overbuild the mechanisms that hold my leds in place.
It seems like there should be more to it than that! right? Thanks Garland!
Yea, I wasn’t sure how much to expect from hen I opened it up, but most all of it made sense in a minimalist way. The only big twist was the mechanism to register the key strokes. Thanks for watching Dave.
As always a very unique tear down and fun stuff!
I thought I would have run out of unique and varied things by now. But my latest weeks of building these vids for the upcoming months has shown me that there seems to never be an end to unique cool things to take apart.
Dude!!! You hit the jackpot of greeblies with this one!!!
I know right ! I feel like I could slap a Wayland Yutani sticker on it and call it good. Or tear it apart for making a custom build.
Wow! Nice haul! Looks like you found the innards of a whole space ship! And a bunch of the parts for the tools used to build it! Thanks for sharing your inspiring videos! Very cool!
This was a total treasure. I feel it could be slightly dressed and and used as is. Or totally taken apart and used to make other builds. And I’d still have the enclosure to make something else. And thank you so much Jerry for the kind words. And much more coming from very week for at least a month or two. Now I just need to be less busy and actually make something. lol
Great Video, but I think it is kinda missing some Weathering.. It looks toooo new.
Thank you. You are correct, the weathering was very light…almost non existent. But that was on purpose as I was going more Empire aesthetic. Most often my heaviest weathering is on my faux rock builds. You might enjoy the one I made from drywall
@@garlandsworkshop thanks for the Answer, even though I answered on a two year old Video. If it was wanted that way It's a very cool one!
Good stuff! Whens the next build video?
Thanks Dave And…Guilty as charged….it has been awhile. Trying to close up some big home DIY items and another electronics 101 video before taking on another build video. tangents that need attention and the vid series just is something I’m passionate about right now. But I have plans and parts…just need the time to build something.
Looks great. Be sure to mask up when cutting circuit board they are full of metal and fiberglass.
It seems that all the cool hobbies always come with so many hazards that have the possibility even if unlikely to turn you into a super villain due to the highly toxic consistencies
Lots of great parts. I like the port on the back it kind of looks like an r2 data port.
Yea, that port really screamed out to me as something to keep for a future build.
Darn thing looked great even before the tear down!!
It really did. But I was surprised the cool items below that offered up many making possibilities
March, California, 71 degrees, warm me up. Come up to the mountains. Haha
It’s crazy how all winter 71 feels too cool and in the summer 71 degrees is too hot
While I am not sure what I would make there are many interesting parts that I would keep visible while building
You are totally right...sometimes Greebles can both look cool and also have no place in your mind for a build....or at least initially. For me, I really like the lens as I thought they could just be some cool details on a panel build. One of my favorite parts of this series is hearing what other people would do. It truly opens the mind to opportunities to grow. I believe next weeks videos will be easiser to imagine....even though it may not look that way until I start taking it apart.
Some good GREEBLIE PORN sir!!!
Your videos are very enjoyable to watch! Thanks for sharing them. I, too, enjoy disassembling things but am at a loss for what to do with all the parts! Of course there are many greeblies hiding within and they hold much potential! But, sadly I am not a builder. Any advice on how to become a builder (or a supplier for the builder community) and not just a hoarder? I don't like seeing all that potential go to waste! Keep up the good work! I always look forward to your next video! Whether it is Assembly or DISassembly!
I really appreciate your kind words Jerry. It is always great finding people who also love taking things apart. Some see it as destructive, but I love it because it can be fun, therapeutic and often it is intriguing to see how things work and are constructed...which in turn helps to discover how to build my own projects. As for being a builder or not, I can understand your feelings. I am the same way. Practice has made my mind be more creative and allowing myself to make mistakes and projects that don't turn out well has allowed me the room so that the more I practice...the better my work becomes. I am positive that your journey will be the same. So how do you start...? I would advice one of two routes (possibly both as I see they both have benefits for the creative mind). The first is, find a prop you want to make and start to make it. Buy as close as the same materials you can and replicate it. Adam Savage says make things in 3's. By the time you finish the third you will be amazed at the learning curve. I tend to lean to woodworking, but if you are looking for something easy to start out...maybe use foam. It takes less tools to get going. Or buy a utility box, some spray paint, automotive pin striping and buy a couple star wars button tiles. Then make a panel front. When you are finished, then step up the next one by adding some led's. Another method could be kitbashing...which only requires glue and trash. Next time you take something apart...select the best greeble(s) and gather a bunch of trash about you (pill bottles, medical caps, paperclips for "pipes" lids, straws, etc) so that you can just add items with glue or hot glue. Don't over think it. If you mess up...at the end of the day it was just trash and you can start again. When you are done...paint it all one color like gray or rust and it will come together. Lastly...yes, greebles storage is always a battle. A persons hobby should never overrun their life...but having a selection of items available helps to make creative builds. I usually keep about 80% of all the thins I have taken apart. However, it has forced me recently to rethink this as it has taken over the space that I originally wanted to build in. So I have had to pare it down. I recommend, keeping small interesting baubles. Maybe buy 1 or 2 organization bins and put the items in it when you like something. If it gets full...trade weaker items for stronger ones. I often offer my discarded greebles ot others. I don't sell anything, but I know people who do. And I try to recycle whenever possible. (instead of landfills) Sorry for the lengthy response...but you brought up such great points that meant a lot to me...so I want to provide a thorough response.
@@garlandsworkshop Your response is GREATLY appreciated! Thank you for taking the time out of, what must be, your very busy schedule! Your suggestions are exactly what I need to hear! OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!! The comment about not being afraid to make mistakes really hits home! For so many years I told my art students the same thing, and now that I have retired, it is time that I take my own advice when it comes to what are my own interests in Art. And yes, what the community of Makers create, I DO consider it to be ART!!! There is not enough room here in this post to put into words how much it helps to have found a like-minded person and community! Thank you SO MUCH for your fun videos and helpful comments! I will be on the lookout for more of your content! Keep up the great work! You continue to be a fun storyteller! p.s. receiving your response made my day!
I am pleased to hear this. And the feeling is mutual
What a shame to see such a beautiful TV destroyed 😢
To see even more destruction…search for how this TVs magnifying screen can be used to literally blow up rocks. Very interesting. But seriously though, found this one on fb marketplace and grabbed it just before owner couldn’t sell it and was about to add this one to a landfill, so I took it apart to share what’s inside, repurpose it and recycle what remained. If you are looking for one, tons are being offered for free across the USA. Could be a cool nostalgic piece to show off in the living room. Cheers
@@garlandsworkshop i'm not in USA, so it would cost a fortune to get them here
Oh wow. I do not factor that in. My first rear projection tv I bought many moons ago was as when I lived in Italy. Not sure where you live but who knows…maybe one is lurking around the next classified ad or vintage sale. I love seeing how things work. So I have always taken things apart. In doing these videos. Hopefully it helps people see what I see without having to do it themselves. Unless they really love what the see and have to have those Greebles for a special build. But there are some things I’ve had for years that I’ve never had the courage to tear apart. Too nostalgic I guess. I hope you find the treasures you are after. Cheers
@@garlandsworkshop i have two rear projection TVs here now, and at least 8 CRT projectors, but i'd easily take more rear projection sets if they were more common in Australia, unfortunately they never were overly common here. I used to repair and service them many years ago, but they're very rare here.
Wow. That is super cool that you have so many classics and that you have the skills to fix them and keep them going. I guess I just simply assumed most all countries consume the same proportion of products as we do in the states. A little naive on my part I guess. I remember while living in Italy just before I left…an Italian friend quickly jumped at the opportunity to take my rear protection. But my 35” CRT had to be recycle because no one would take it. And I was giving it all away for free. Italy was super big on the flatscreens about this time. Germany and Portugal were about the same from what I could see. But I admit that still is only a small look at world trends
What ramps are you using? My ramps are too high and my bumper scrapes on them.
I bought these “Rhino Ramps” by Blitz over a decade ago. I’m sure newer versions are out there. Mine measured at 7” high and 35” long. I had zero clearance issues Otherwise just use a jack and jack stands…
I would add it to the greeblie pile and wait for it to find a home in a project.
lol. Yea, sometimes a vision of a bigger picture project needs to come to mind. Too often my mind goes to panels and more panels and if I can’t fit them in that, I just save for some future brain storm. That’s also why I love watching other people’s builds or comments in this video series. Because they open my eyes to what I did not see on my own.
A mini spy droid with the shell....This droid was designed by the Empire to collect intel and has the capability to cloak it's self into his environment, making it nearly imposible to detect or see. Only way to detect it is by setting off a low-frequency EMP in the area, which will glitch the cloaking device for a few seconds.
If there ever was a a game of “Greebles storytelling “ you would be the all time winner. I love the clever and unique uses for the Greebles wrapped up in a story that you seem to weave so easily. So Rad !!!
My issue would be to pull it up on those ramps. Too scared and I'm not as comfortable on a jack 🤷🏽♀️
Admittedly, yes, that can be a critical aspect of the job, which can be daunting if you have never done it before. This was my daughter’s first time. She was nervous, but did fine. I think a spotter helps a lot. But saving a few dollars on an Oil change isn’t worth damage to your car. So it may be better to take it to a mechanic. But at least you know going into it, what’s involved and how much it costs.
Interesting spaceship or landing pad parts in the case assemblies. the insides looks like regular greeblies to stuff in a spot of need.
I agree. Totally interesting shapes on the case side. In the inside it has very similar parts to things we’ve taken apart many times before…even though their uses may not even be food related. I find that interesting to see how the mechanisms and electronics are used in various devices
Did you do a tear down of a portable battery charger? Not the big metal ones on wheels but more like the version that can be stored away in a trunk. Also I recently did something to my door chime cover which most people have in their homes, just need to update the cover to my ring door bell to match. Great video idea.
Yes, I did a portable battery charger about 4 weeks ago. Lots of Greebles greatness therein. And I think converting the look of your ring doorbell is genius. Instead if people avoiding it, you’ll have everyone turning into it to check it out…and thus getting a perfect mugshot of qmy would be porch pirate
All kinds of good stuff in there!
Yea, a lot more than I expected. I like the canisters and pumps the most
Thanks for your video. It is far to expensive to pay to have this done at a dealership, or a quick change place. When you do it yourself you know it was done correctly, and with care.
Your welcome I too find that doing oil changes yourself ensure it was done right and at an affordable price. From all my years, I’ve found the simplest thing to keep a car alive forever is oil changes (and scheduled mx).
Thanks for posting this! I’m about to do my first oil change on my Corolla. I’m familiar with oil changes, just wanted to see how it’s done.
I’m pleased to hear it has helped you. You should find this one straight forward. No curve balls with this one
I agree with Aedo and you do get some cool stuff to take apart!
Yea, once I saw Aedo’s idea, that was the only thing I could see. He very clever. And thanks Shawn…I try to find cool stuff to share
The innards look like some sort of med tech bay gizmos or the beginnings of a bacta tank. I also wonder if the sensor could be repurposed for an automatic door.
The innards are what really caught me too. All the hoses and wicked cool canisters. The bacta tank idea is cool. I could totally see it as an access panel on the tank. Or a med tech station as you suggested (maybe even in aliens world with some cool emoticon stickers on it)
Tons of great greeblies right brother!! I would convert the main shell into intercom system "Phonebooth" located in a smugglers bar/cantina. Utlize all the interior greeblies on the exterior of the intercom booth.
Dang Dude, you are way too good at this!!! I love that idea. I was thinking merely as a background detail for depth. But that’s a whole prop. I totally see it now. Sweet idea
I love that heater filament. I woukd add that along with lighting to give it that extra look ❤
I agree Dave. That is cool. And if the lighting is strategically placed it might give some cinematic shadows…all ESB brooding type of lighting
#1 Either a small painting booth or a mini vacuum former....#2 A Star Wars Creature Habitat....#3 A Galaxy's Edge small creature spinning warmer.
Love these ideas!!! I could only think of an alien habitat like Tony makes. But drew a blank after that. However, I love your galaxies edge cooking roaster idea
Good job, but next time make sure the oil is not leaking
Leaking?
The two outter red shells can be made into a Space Cargo Fleet Ship....Thank you for sharing Garland!!
I really like that idea. Making a ship never dawned on me. I guess I’ve been trapped into the hamster wheel of panel making. 😂
The red housing looks kind of like a droid body.
Totally ! I see the shape of that droid in book of boba fett at the Jabba palace
That gear housing looked pretty cool for a communication or power coupler display. Now you have a few more M8 bolts for your collection. The hose is kinda short but it might have some uses.
I 100% did not expect the coolness within that red housing. The heat sink parts of the gear housing was one of my favorite parts. But so much if it was absolute gold. The spring assembly was super cool. I just need to get a good cleaner to get all the oil grime off. Then again…it might just stain the mdf in a good way upon assembly. 😂
Imagine placing an LED or RGB behind the lid slots. Definitely has possibilities. Almost looks better than the one you tore down a few months ago.
Yea, he one was an air fryer. I think led implementation would make it pop. I liked the cool depth the pieces did. Whether for a diorama or background piece in panel cutout…there is definitely potential. Wait till next week. I have an item that looks so boring…until you open it up. Tons of goodies
What size is the attachment you use to tighten filter cover
Everything I used is in the video description. Hope that helps
Yes it did help!
Is there a video of the break pads replacement for this car?
I’m glad. Have a great day
I have not done one. But I am sure there is one out there. If I see one, I’ll let you know
Those grills would look great on a wall with some wires under them!!
Agreed , I think that would be cool. I really liked that fan blade thing too…but can’t quite figure out how to use it without it coming out too mad max…and OSHA starts calling
Leaf Guard covers minus the mesh on them have a cool Death Star vibe. Or the covers that go over the long floor drains. If turned up and down they look like control panel cooling vents. I try to get some ideas from salvage stores in my town. Keep an eye out for the small shop heaters with the metal body.
Dude, those are all Gold ideas. I’ve seen some creators (even Star Wars…I think in a ship that drops troops) use them to great effect. I’ve taken a metal shop heater apart for this channel before. And you are 💯 correct, they are wicked cool. You ever post these finds? If so, where. I usually go to the fb Greebles page. So many awesome finds people show off
