      Well that’s great news! I was beginning to feel as though I’d missed out on something, what with all the new makes and models from you and other manufacturers…. But by carefully studying the footages, not many things are repaired or made using more than 3Kw, so I’ll be sticking with the older Ms35 for now although I do ‘want’ some of the toys from the big boys machines! 😂 Just to pass on one of my little tips when assembling (tacking) jewellery with 90 degree joints. I utilise the crosshairs inside the microscope to check that everything is square and at 90. It works brilliantly every time!

      @@KeniloTube The Ms35 is a great machine, and if it's still working perfectly for you, there's no need to upgrade. But if you ever feel like you need extra power, we do offer trade-up options! We've never heard of anyone doing this before; we'll be sure to mention it in future videos!

    Hi Paul I wonder if the process for welding and polishing will lose a bit of weight to the watch. I had a white gold watch about to go back to factory service. So I’m deciding whether to laser welding and polishing. but I wonder if it’s gonna make a big difference in weight.

    Hi Paul, as videos showing the use and repairs that can be made by using a laser welder are few and far between, I found your gold ring sizing repair very interesting as I have a similar job to do on a friend's gold ring. Due to a swollen knuckle, it had become too tight on the ladies finger and the ring had to be cut off by her husband, a retired fireman (not a jeweller)... So you can imagine the mess it is in! As this will be my first gold ring repair using our MS35 laser, I listened very closely to you describing the settings you used on your machine before you began the repair. Although during the video you kindly passed on most of the settings you were about to use, you only mentioned raising or lowering the power and never let on the power setting you started with, which would have gotten me to a starting point. Obviously shank thickness would affect the power setting chosen but this ladies ring has quite a worn shank due to its age and looked similar to the ring used in your demonstration before her husband stepped in. Any clues on the power for my repair? Thanks.

    • @freeformfabricationUK
      @freeformfabricationUK 9 месяцев назад

      Hi thanks for watching. The main thing with power using the laser welder is to start low and add more until you are getting the desired result. For me on the MS35 I would start at 1.0kW on 0.2 spot and work up until you are happy with what's happening

    Hi Jaco, Following today's article in the Henley Standard about you and your work, I've been fascinated by watching your video's, what an excellent idea to promote the whole subject of jewellery making. Its something which has always been of interest to me - both from my ex Art student's perspective, and from great sentimentality regarding many items of my own jewellery. Some years ago I joined an evening class of silversmithing where our tutor was an inspiring talented ex Royal College student with masses of wonderful ideas, and a helpful source. Unfortunately she left for better things and we had a vastly different uninspiring replacement chap whose final statement to me which finished my interest in his class, was - following my comment that I wasn't too pleased with my work, was "Frankly I'm not interested in whether or not you're pleased - but more important is that you've finished the piece". How utterly deflating. I'll remain fascinated by your work and will watch any future video's. Good Luck and please continue with your projects. Judith MacBeth.
