Please Learn From My Mistakes. Analyzing my March 31, 2023 Iowa Tornado Chase
When I posted the original video about my Iowa chase on March 31st, 2023, I expect to get a maximum of 2,000 views. I really wanted to make a breakdown of what happened to me, especially since I feel like I made some major mistakes, but I didnt want to put in the effort of making that video if the views it would get would be so low.
Well, over a million views on the video made me change my mind, and I want to go deeper into that day and explain why I felt like I was in a bad spot and also discuss what I could have done differently.
I am blown away by the reception of the past video and I cannot thank you all enough for your support.
I hope you enjoy this analysis of my chase, and I hope th...

How not to Chase a Violent Iowa Tornado. March 31, 2023
Просмотров 2 млнГод назад
If you are confused about the title of this video, I go into further detail with a full breakdown of what happened to me here: ruclips.net/video/EtXertYQl1A/видео.html Through a series of mistakes and bad luck, I was way too close for comfort on this violent Iowa tornado on March 31, 2023. For days leading up to March 31st, it was clear that there was potential for a larger scale severe weather...
Beautiful Large Tornado near Palmer, Iowa. April 12th, 2022.

April 12th, 2022 was originally going to be a classic southern plains dryline day, but capping concerns made the triple point in Iowa the safer play. This was the furthest north I had ever chased, but it turned out to be worth it. Special thanks to Glenn Johnston for helping me make and edit this video. twitter: @rockinatornado intsagram: @rockinatornado
Selden, KS Tornado 24 May, 2021

On May 24th, 2021, indecision nearly ruined my day, but some luck and boundary interactions lead to one the most memorable storm chases of my career. In this video, I tried to go more in depth into what I was thinking prior and during the event, so that hopefully anyone watching this can learn from what I did. Huge thanks to my friend Glenn Johnston for helping me create and edit this video.

To be honest, I had pretty low expectations this day, but it turned out to be the best chase of my life. I left home and got to Quanah, TX just as the storm started getting it's act together. I followed it south until it started showing a lot of rotation. I saw the first funnel it produced but was driving and wasn't able to film it. The video starts with the wall cloud as it passed over highway...

This updraft occurred to our south as the storm moved closer to our position. I've never seen such upward velocity on an updraft before. It would later drop two inch hail on us.

Large Tornado Near Springer, OK 4/22/2020

Large tornado I observed near Springer, OK on April 22nd, 2020. I chased this cell from Healdton, OK to Lone Grove, Ardmore, then blasted north on I-35. This video was taken on State Highway 53, about a half mile east of the I-35 exit. In my six years of storm chasing, I can say, without a doubt this is the best tornado I have ever seen and this is the best chase of my career. This also marks t...

Severe Weather: How to Understand it and How to Prepare for the Storm

This was a presentation I gave to my office on April 1st, 2020. The purpose of this was to introduce those in my office who were no familiar with the severe weather in Oklahoma, why it happens, how to get information regarding future events, ways to get current information, how to use some tools for understanding the danger current weather presents, and how to protect yourselves in the event of...

Large Tornado Near Mangum, OK. May 20th, 2019
Просмотров 4245 лет назад
May 20th, 2019, High Risk Chase. While the apocalyptic tornado outbreak didn't occur, I chased this supercell as it crossed the Red River and got its act together near Gould, OK. I saw this large tornado near Mangum, OK. First part was taken on Highway 34 south of Mangum. Lost visibility and moved north. The terrain and chaser convergence was not friendly and it took a while to see it again. I ...
Wellington, Tx Harmon County, OK Rotating Wall Cloud and Small Tornado
Просмотров 4427 лет назад
Somewhere in Harmon County, OK looking west toward Wellington, TX on May 16th, 2017. The motion and inflow was insane on this storm. About 30 seconds in, I decided to use my car to brace my phone. A minute in, a small rope tornado develops just right of center frame. It only lasted a few seconds. I was sure this storm would drop a wedge in front of me, but the circulation became rain wrapped. I...
The Madness that was Charlotte Part 2

The craziness only intensifies in the final laps. Big wrecks, angry drivers, and a photo finish to top it off, Carl Edwards almost wrecked Dale Jarrett on the back straightaway. That is why the two traded blows. Kasey Kahne also cut a right front tire which destroyed his fender. Due to time constraints, I had to cut these out.

The 2005 Coca-cola 600 set a NASCAR record by having 22 cautions for 103 laps. This is part 1. I cut out the first caution when Martin Truex Jr. scrapped the wall in turn 1. He suffered no real damage and was able to continue.

11 Cars Are In The Grass 💀
Every time a tornado strikes, we face irreplaceable losses. What’s important is having a good response plan to minimize the damage.
What in the hell are you talking about? You are way from the tornado.
I think a mounted camera on the dash and/or rear would make a lot of sense. more stable footage and it will free up your mental space a bit to let you make better decisions in the moment.
outstanding footage ! well done .
I have watched a lot of this type of video and wondered who is paying attention to what is going on overhead, behind, and around them to make sure there isn't another tornado about to come down on top of them?
Que fabriquen autos anti tornados para que aparesca uno el auto se balla por otro lado elebandose como boladores
Great footage & your calm demeanor make watching it more enjoyable. Thanks 👍
Old guy watching from his front yard 😂
So, it's a year later. Are you coming back? We need more chasers who are calm and collected. If I never have to listen to a chasers scream and yell about a tornado again, it'll be too soon.
@@Tirani2 if I had any good footage to post, I would. Unfortunately 2024 was a rough year for me.
It’s amazing you say I got way too close and then five seconds after that you drive closer to it as it crosses in front of you! They can change directions quickly so you only enhance the problems. That my friend is the epitome of stupidity in its finest form.
@@colinmiles9390 if I was smart, I wouldn't be a storm chaser.
This aged well for almost 4 weeks
I want to see and experience this soooo bad!!! I think tornadoes are the most beautiful weather phenomenon on the planet.
Wow that's Neil Bonnett in a damaged car, my gosh it's bad!!!
Oh my oh my
Outstanding video, subscribed. Im in. I have many questions. 1. Do you now, or are you hoping to work with the phenomenal channel 9 okc crew? 2. Is it okay to ask whereabouts you reside at and have you experienced tornados before you started chasing them? 3. Youre a NASACAR fan, do you go to Kansas and Newton oe Knoxville Iowa races? I have a few more but ill save em for now. It embarrasses me to report that you had me laughing pretty hard at the oncoming train and right after part of you’re experience, i apologize for that. It is VERY refreshing to come upon a storm chaser that doesn’t act nuts and spend majority of videos promoting himself. Oh, one other question…..were you by youreself on this journey or were you part of the usual small army of chasers? STAY SAFE and KEEP EM COMING, i appreciate you’re thoroughness and honesty here keep making videos just like this one and ill dredge up more like minded friends and cohorts that help bring youre numbers up..
looks like 2 tornadoes to me, maaaybe 3, not sure what im seeing thats on the ground on left side at 8:40
Who came here because of the Yellawood 500 record today lmfao
So you youreself track tornadoes when youre not downloading nascar content? my kind of guy lol. thanks
Me encante
Well thanks for wasting my time I guess lol

First rule: When you can’t see the tornado moving, it’s coming right at you. Second rule: Don’t forget the first rule
JGR needs to bring back that interstate livery
You came right to the front of the cage wall.
I'm from New England,so we very rarely get a storm on a par with one of your Midwestern "Epics". I can clearly see the danger that you unintentionally put yourself in..., but you have made one of the all time Tornado chase videos! Can see the menacing power weather can wield when you are so close!
Man those barriers saved a lot of people
"I got _way_ too close to this." You know a chaser probably means it when there aren't 4 or 5 lunatics still driving ahead of him towards the giant, swirling death column.

"Way too close to this." _Gets closer._
I'm a year late. What in the righteous hell dude. Driving right at it?😮 Glad you made it.
I did not see too close.... I saw level headed
This video that essentially got me into nascar. I was fascinated watching back in 2009
I dunno, I think that video of the guys who got trapped by a fallen power line and had their car nearly flattened while screaming PLEASE GOD definitely got too close.
I love at the 4:59 mark of the video how you said I got way to close to this, and then you keep driving forward to get closer to it 🤔
Lame. Get closer next time baggit
Stop apologising. You got great footage. Just need to work on that camera skills.
thsi was amazing!!! Thank you for sharing.
So surreal.
At 2 30 the rolling clouds 🎉 amazing
Glad you're okay,partner.
In the beginning of the video, there seem to be multiple funnelclouds. But only one actually touches down.
Comapred to 2024, this is a nice spread out field.
I grew up in the 70’s where the same 16mm footage was constantly reused. I realize its 50 years later, but the endless RUclips stuff still amazes me.
I think 2005 was a wreck fest
Excellent footage bro!
Iv seen chasers closer you are fine bud
Let's take a wild guess what this Einstein had in his car at the time. I'd guess a computer, so they would have radar, a cell phone. probably. What about a first aid kit? Doubtful. Video camera, of course. This is the most important thing to chasers because it's needed to get those money shots they can sell to media outlets. This is what most chasers do when on the road. I always get a laugh when I see a bunch of them speeding down a 2 land road, sometimes side by side. They will not hesitate to run stop signs and red traffic lights. Most chase channels, when they live stream, all you see is clouds, roads, traffic and some rain.
Thanks for the view and engagement!
In what universe were you too close? Good job.
