Im here because a customer my age came in today with her arm covered in a Puff the Magic Dragon tattoo and i was in awe! I sang the song and felt like an idiot but it was worth it. Now its time to make my kids watch it

I loved this as a kid. I suddenly stopped speaking for almost a year, at around age 4. It was due to severe child abuse. My father decided to take us and run away from all family that Had been my only joy or safety. They moved us to the middle of nowhere literally, into this old house in the middle of a forest, no roads in or out. Had to have a 4x4 truck to even get to the house. No one knew where or when we had gone. But since now, no one would see the signs of abuse, things got worse fast. I completely shut down. I Rarely left my room, didn’t play at all anymore. Barely ate, And didn’t speak at all, even when my father would threaten to beat me more if I didn’t say anything. Eventually an aunt found us, and demanded that he stop hiding us or she’d call cops bc of my condition. This same aunt later recorded this off hbo for me to watch. I loved it, it felt amazing to see another kid struggling with some of the same issues.

Imagine thinking this song was all about weed. And thinking Peter, Paul and Mary were just stoner hippies... then this cartoon comes out with this magic perspective and heartfelt story. Just goes to show if you search for something to get angry about you'll find it, but if you search for goodness and innocence you can find that too.

Amazing. I'm neurodivergent and we had this movie as kids - our mother would put it on for us when I or one of my siblings was sick, especially with something that required soup and fuzzy blankets. Looking back as an adult, along with my sudden craving for hot soup in the middle of summer, I'm impressed at how this movie tackles mental conditions and parallels them to sniffles - something more readily recognizable as an illness.

My father would always play this for us. I honestly think he watched it with us because he felt like the little boy in his childhood at heart.
