OH boy here goes Debbie Downer. First the commutes can be terrible depending on the time and direction. It is not uncommon to spend an hour going from Beaverton to Portland or Gresham to Portland on the freeway if there is a wreck and I-205 can be just as bad going from Oregon City to Vancouver WA. Portland has some of the most aggressive and inconsiderate bicyclist that don't stop at stop signs and think YOU should stay out of THEIR way Oh and most of them don't use lights at night and dress in black so you can't see them. Downtown is a disaster nowadays due to homeless camps everywhere and there are only 2 stores to buy groceries at unless you like boutique grocery stores and living downtown is VERY EXPENSIVE and parking is not free most places and most of the apartments don't have off street parking. The transit system has turned into a giant rolling drug ingestion place with homeless people with their stuff taking multiple seats up and their FAKE service animals People are mostly friendly except the homeless druggies. People in Lake Oswego are entitled pieces of crap for the most part. If there is snow nobody knows how to drive in it so traffic comes to a crawl and the transit system does the same. I enjoy your videos but you need to include both good and bad rather than making it look like this is the best city ever.

The only thing that you left out in my mind was if you are going to live on top of a hill in Camas there are going to be times that the wind is going to BLOW REALLY HARD and that same wind is very COLD since it comes down the Gorge and off the mountains it also means that the Gorge FREEZES up sometimes and is subject to closures due to ICE. Having said that if it gets cold enough to snow then it is likely your area will freeze which means ice on the roads and dangerous hills to travel. Generally there is NOT a lot of snow that is on the ground for long periods but it can happen. I don't know Camas so I am not sure if there are roads that are flat to use in the snow and ice. I was raised in Portland and now live in Vancouver so I have seen some real bad weather in my lifetime.

Lake Oswego is a very SNOBBY place. The children act entitled and the residents look down their noses at everyone else. I drove the bus in Portland and out in L O and the people out there would walk by you and see if you asked about the fare and then they were huffy about paying it

The libtards destroyed California, then moved to and did the same to Texas. Now they're emigrating to the northwest, so they can finish destroying a once free and conservative place to raise a family. They're like locusts beware folks.

Comparing apples to apples, what are the property taxes like in Portland vs Vancouver? I heard that Washington state imposes an excise tax on the seller of their property? If you've covered this subject before and it's still current, please direct me to that vidro. I find your videos some of the best because you're honest and not hypey. And please don't compare Lake Oswego [the Beverly Hills of Portland] to Vancouver proper. That is NOT apples to apples.

I grew up in and lived in Portland my whole life and have seen all of the changes there mostly good until about 5 years ago when the DA decided to not prosecute a laundry list of crimes then the whole MOSTLY PEACEFUL PROTESTS happened which were NOT peaceful and nobody has been charged in most of the vandalism and assaults. I moved to Vancouver to get away from the TAX HELL that Oregon has become. This just popped up in my FB page so it was fun to watch. Really liked the bloopers :D

Never been to Texas, ... I thinks its such a great state.... but way way too HOT for me... I am about to run from Commifornia for so many reasons (CRIME CRIME CRIME, horrible Politics, insane taxes, homeless everywhere, millions on drugs, everything costs and arm and a leg, and FIRES FIRES FIRES!), but one big reasons is the weather in CA... its like living in an oven! SO depressing! I hate the constant warm/Hot weather, ...URGHHH! But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Cold!!!....so I am now checking out cooler states...

Beautiful homes! 3.9 million really doesn’t feel like a lot for what you get to experience everyday! Where I’m from 4 million will only get you a 1500 sqft cottage built in 1970. Yeah, you get to live by the beach, but definitely no hidden rooms, floating cabinets or invisible drains! I’m curious what the listing price is for the Inglewood? Gorgeous homes!

Just adding here that it was my mother, Susan Christopherson, who planted all of the apple trees back in the 90s and aughts. Back when Luana was in her 20s she helped my mom plant some of the trees! And now Luana has come full circle: She and Rebecca not only run the farm now, but they also take care of Susan so that she can live out her wish of spending her last years on the farm.

Vancouver can't take much more population increase. it is near gridlock at times. The government is also locating many migrants here and they get everything for free, Property taxes are high and only going to get higher.

I just moved from WA (Bellingham) to Brunswick GA. Home prices in WA are insane! You pay $35 000 just for a building permit. Be prepared to stay inside for 6 months in winter, so get a big place. WA is full of people who have NO social polish, are reserved and indifferent. It's the state of blue and green hair, tons of piercings and people 's skin looks like wallpaper with all the tattoos. Walmart is closing most stores because people are not prosecuted for stealing. Seattle has become a giant sh*thole with lots of homeless drug addicts. The police wont come if you need them. If your car gets stolen you better go find it yourself. Interesting is that officially both cities have the same crime rate. But Brunswick is a lot safer because Bellingham does NOT prosecute a lot of crime and is also a sanctuary city. Brunswick is hot in summer for two months but the rest of the year is awesome. There is a very nice clean and safe community in WA by the CN border, it's called Lynden. Here everything is great, especially for seniors but be prepared that everybody will vehemently try to drag you to their church. Just being a very nice person isn't enough for them. It's the community with the highest number of churches per capita in the US. But police will be at your house within two minutes if you need them. However, if you have allergies you will have to stay inside a lot. There is a lot of agriculture. In spring they spray for bugs, in summer you get the smoke from all the CN forest fires, in fall they spray fertilizer and in winter it's very windy and nasty. So unless you can afford a nice place close to the ocean think again. Oregon is worse.

As long as you work for an Oregon employer even if you work remotely in Vancouver, or any other states, you are subject to Oregon income tax just fyi.

Know your Congress person and don't assume your Democrat Representative is actually voting the way you want them to!

I lived in Vancouver for 20+ years. I raised my son there. One of those neighborhoods you mentioned I have never heard about. I'm done there. It isn't my home town, but it's nice to contemplate it a bit since it used to be home.

To say that Vancouver is a suburb of Portland is an insult to anyone in Vancouver. We are divided by the Columbia River and live in ANOTHER state. BTW, 90% of the population and drug increase is coming from Portland due to terrible woke government and Oregon's crime/fentanyl problem/acceptance. The woodsy dream of the NW is dead in Vancouver and we're being overrun with traffic and new apartments that add thousands of people at once and they're being built at a much higher rate than housing. Expect to pay half a million for starter homes and ridiculous prices for apartments. Don't buy the BS.

Is Vancouver walkable? We’re thinking of moving and one of the big things for us is being able to not rely on cars as much as we do here (little to no public transportation and almost nothing is really in walking distance). We’re also considering Portland, but the taxes and education system is also making me lean toward Vancouver.

Great Video! My family lived there about 7 years ago. It was amazing we got out just in time before it blew up! Our taxes almost tripled in the 5 years we were there!

Hi Hal, thanks for sharing this as always. CA is really beautiful & has a diverse topography, the sun is lovely and all, but the housing costs are suicidal!!! The PNW provides another sort of beauty, that never gets old, the weather isn't bad at all and most importantly, the housing is so much affordable!!!

I dont know if its dumb, but I actually want to move to Washington because of it's climate, a lot more job opportunities, better pay, and well, I want a new scenery. I figured Washington would be a great place to live, if your not a heat person like me, im comfortable with comfortable heat but I dont enjoy heat at all, I just love the cooler weather, and rainy. I am someone from Texas as well, the heat is not for me. Haha

Texas and Florida are extremely spread out. I also just purchased the book "Strategic Relocation." It's always great to revisit these videos.

I lived in portland during the 2020 riots and protests, and it was absolutely NOT blown out of proportion. I had to drive through antifa rioters when leaving the hospital, who had just came from burning a police station near my house and pouring paint on an elderly woman who tried to talk them into stopping what they were doing. I was scared for my life! Antifa had been stopping cars and attacking people throughout the city. Rioters were driving around my neighborhood harassing citizens, downtown was literally like a war zone with people getting beat up, 1 person got shot and killed, tear gas (until they wouldnt let the cops use that anymore). It was scary! Don't downplay it.
