FOLLOW THESE 6 STEPS to Become an Electrician in 11 mins
My wife wanted to put the Christmas tree up in October before HALLOWEEN. I told her she was absolutely nuts.
Corporate America scares the hell outta me..
Christmas trees are acceptable on December 1st, any earlier is just ridicoulus, imo at least
Firefighting. Risky financially and physically.
Bro didn't even answer the question
Would joining the U,S. Army in wire maintenance be a good way to get started. How would you rate their training program?
hey man question. Im currently an apprentice on the tree side im about half way through, did line school in Oregon, then went to doing underground then got this apprenticeship. Do you think it’s a good path to go for the outdoor construction line apprenticeship after or try and go for a line apprenticeship at a pud? If so I’ve heard both are great options but the pud side im not that knowledgeable on.
Christmas tree goes up November 1st at my house
Same lol we put way too much money into it not to put it up right away
Usually, wait to decorate after Thanksgiving if you already have Thanksgiving decorations
I can’t wait to go in next week and put my application in for the apprenticeship. I’m currently a laborer for a non union company , but it’s not for me I need something more challenging.
Hey I just recently passed my Aptitude test and it seemed there is a lot of competition, I’m wondering if I could apply to a different IBEW while waiting?
It’s a shame how many people are given the privilege of being a JL to an Apprentice who abuse the relationship to be assholes. It’s a sacred thing.
Here in so cali we make over $60 an hour
Should I stay or leave my heavy equipment job if I’m looking to get into the lineman trade. If I leave I’ll be going into a groundsman position.
there is welders in the IBEW? Where do I sign up I’m qualified for structural and pipe. Where is your video on this ?
Only certain union halls have welders as a classification. Local 47 in SoCal being one of them. Can't tell you off the top of my head what locals do & don't!
A question 2 years later but when you flew from place to place do you ship your gear or does the new location provide that?
When flying from place to place, you bring your own gear. Mainly just climbing gear & hand tools that fit in a drag bag or hard case. Company usually has all the other stuff to build power lines on their equipment. Battery tools, material, safety stuff, etc. My gear usually weighs right at 69 lbs, right under TSA 70 lb heavy heavy weight limit. So i don't have to pay absurd amount to check it in. Clothes, in another check bag.
Been followingyour channel because you sharing valuable, can you also information about millwright in USA 🇺🇸 ,job opportunities, their salary etc. I am in South Africa and here millwright is a dual trade mechanical and electrician ,they work in mines and industries
Stay tuned!
Thank you so much my brother for sharing valuable information
I was a lineman for 19 years for a sub contractor, no retirement for me
Where at?
How can I be a lineman? I have been looking at pg&e and I notice there’s a great need for lineman, but I can’t find any resources that would help navigate me to a journeyman line man.
The resource is apply & get into a IBEW lineman apprenticeship, get into an apprenticeship, complete the apprenticeship & become a JL. PG&E is in fact looking for linemen all the time. But you don't just "become a lineman" it takes years or learning & training. Learn more on the "lineman" youtube playlist or website at bluecollaredu.com/lineman
If I’m not mistaken Ibew 111 has a operator apprenticeship
Not 100% sure on that, but I think you're right. Could always check their website or call the hall & ask them!
Do a episode for operators in the field there is only one apprenticeship in the union for operators and it’s also grueling and lots to learn
Are you talking about the IUOE? Or IBEW?
Sounds like cope bro god bless linemen but bro it never pays that well and sweet lord its dangerous. Thats a live fast die young and broke job. Like live in a trailer park with a v6 Camero broke.
Depends on where you live and work I suppose. If you're a lineman, & you have your finances right...I think it comes down to a YOU problem.
I’m thinking about going into lineman college. I just turned 19. And I’m real eager to try it. Any tips?? Any information from previous or current lineman. Is it worth all the work
My one single tip (because I've made several videos on this exact topic, check out the channel) Get your Class A CDL no auto restrictions, CPR/First Card & flagging certificate. From there, apply with apprenticeships throughout the country. Oh, & be willing to travel.
What tools do you bring with you to storm ?
I bring just climbing gear & the hand tools that go in my climbing gear. Especially if i'm flying. My gear pack weighs in just at 69lbs with all my tools. The company normally will have everything else to build powerlines. Power tools, material, live line tools, etc.
@ thanks man
@ do you have a video of your to storm bag ?
What are the changes of getting into local 640 with no prior electrical experience? I’m worried to apply if there is no chance of getting on. I only have prior law enforcement experience
The chances are pretty good! Applying for an apprenticeship is not an "end all be all". There is a whole application process, interviews and things of that sort. If anything, its a great experience and you'll learn what to do for the future. Law enforcement is great prior experience!
🧢
Imho, i found starting with a company was the best way. Least amount of upfront cost and you will not need to deal with "oh but you have no experience" fresh out of school looking for a job.
I agree 100% that's the route i'd personally take as well. The company knows you don't have prior experience!
I make $35 and hour stacking pallets of frozen food I do have to work in a freezer that’s -20 degrees but still I feel like they should be making more
Agreed! I feel there is a lot of trades out there that should be making more!
This trade is one of the most dangerous trades, because you're dealing with extremely high voltage, and very dangerous natural gas.
It's taxing on our body but im pulling 50$/hr [not maxed out either] and I work safety first. I imagine if it was easier we would be paid less? Of course an argument could be made that our industry needs more safety training <3 that's helpful to me fam.
True! There are a lot of safety variables that need to be learned once you start getting into it! But it is a fulfilling career choice!
Having high expectations is preventing the next generation from coming in and learning proper. The next apprentice perhaps has never been in a trade setting, perhaps another apprentice is a rather slow learner. As long as they don’t have poor work ethic, it’s best to look at it as a case by case basis.
Totally agree with you. However, every as an apprentice you have to work on a case by case basis as well. You don't know who your journeyman will be. EIther way, have the "want to learn" & "work ethic" goes a long way!
The Ibew local 1049 (Long Island NY) close to my house funnels people into the Northeastern Apprenticeship Training Program (NEAT). Then when you come back from the program they enter you in their apprenticeship.
Homie you look 40
First i've heard that
I was looking at a graph last week and it showed 10% of construction workers are unionized.
For the IBEW, lineman construction is right around there.
What about for electricians
Yeah, electrician apprenticeships are everywhere! Look up your local electrician IBEW union hall or local electrician companies & ask if they offer apprenticeships.
Something wrong with your website is down.???
What contractors have you worked for as a lineman?
That's a long list. I''ve worked for a lot of the big named once. I try not to talk specifically about companies on this channel!
@ Is there anyway we could talk 1 on 1 I’d love to hear lots more about your journey and story. I’m currently on my last weeks of SLTC class 75 and wanting to explore options. As well as get more in depth of company’s and work life. Thank you so much for your feedback back I’m hoping to hear from you again🙏.
Why does the IBEW bash Trump? We support Him.
The hands support him, the higher ups in the IBEW don't because they get their funding and back door deals from the democrats.
@BlueCollarEDU Thank you for your reply brother.
Be an industrial pipe fitter in the petro and chem industry bottom pay in my southern region is about 28 top is 45ish.
Wow, thats awesome! My dad is a union pipefitter in WA state & works for a paper/lumber mill, he does well!
Wished I found this kind of job 5yrs ago, trying to get into one soon
It's not to late!
🤡🤡
This dude is a dork for wearing dress shoes advertising "working" (while clearly managing) a blue collar company). Be authentic and just say you were a manager trainee!
Making the shift next spring. Getting out of the factory work and do something I can take pride in. Can’t wait.
Heck yeah brother! good luck on your journey.
Finally someone I genuinely like 😅
He’s advice is what everyone says all the time but there’s a lot of competition and jealous hating as people that wants to misguide you in this field too
Flying certificate, whats that for?
I’m in the HVAC trade, Industrial & Heavy Commercial. In DFW, a good HVAC guy can easily make close to 50$ an hour not counting benefits. In 2023 I made 120k with minimal OT. I dont do much selling/quoting that could give me probably another 20k if I tried. Elevator workers in DFW make 53 an hour for scale, Hard to get into. Plumber/Pipefitter scale is 38.75 ish an hour. I have had interest in being a Lineman & also Elevator mechanic. I do medium voltage work currently, so linemen wouldn’t be out of the realm
WOW! That's awesome to hear. HVAC is a great career choice with lots of potential to learn and makoe great money!
Can you explain more of aerial linemen I want to know all of my options I’m 18 and just got my CDL and ready to apply to apprenticeships but aerial linemen does catch my eye and would want to know how to get in it, the pay and how different it is from the regular lineman trade. Appreciate the videos keep doing what you’re doing
Well, first off there is "journeyman lineman" that is a lineman that is trained to do everything from underground to aerial/overhead distribution & transmission. The term "aerial" normally refers to non-union doing overhead work. Look for IBEW apprenticeships. Watch our other videos, I talk about all this stuff
It is not to say that he couldn't start his own business. It is that now a days it is hard to start from scratch due to regulations. It is sad that owning a small business seems impossible.
Step 1: Have a dad who has a successful business. *failed*
