For the second time in, well, forever, Troop 608 is in canoes (and kayaks), but going point to point, instead of just padding around.

Once again, what is there to describe? Our Troop went to Brownstone, we had a great time, and thanks to an event nearby, we had great lunch options.
Troop 608 at Deer Lake September '24

Troop 608 returns to Deer Lake, formerly Deer Lake Scout Reservation - now in the thoughtful care of The Pathfinders. The Scouts work on getting their Ultimate Frisbee game in tune, visit Fat Man's Squeeze (I just fit), set up a short wave radio, run a campfire, and work on Advancement. Re-uploaded after we detected some typos, and with some refinements.

Voyages of the Blessed and the Damned, Dyer Dhow in Boothbay Region, '23

Six "voyages" in my Dyer Dhow 7-11, East to Southport Island; some went better than others. As I catch up on editing these, I fear I have fallen into the trap of telling the same story over and over again, only a different year. Oh well, that's the thing about RUclips, you dear viewer can always click away - as 70 to 90% of my audience does in the first ten seconds of most videos. There are no ...

Much of the first week, 2023, Firehouse Competition - once again, there were camera issues, so let's cut strait to lessens learned. Lessons Learned: This is the second Firehouse Competition I have shot, and the third I have edited. Why didn't I edit this sooner? I think it was because the technical issues (battery dead) frustrated me. Besides battery management, I have had a camera go down from...

The Wind Blows Free for Dyer Dhow and Klepper, Maine 2021

Our adventures in small boats, where I am both clever and stupid, often in rapid succession, and we learn the Klepper needs a new skin. The difference between an Olympus Tough and a Sony action camera in a water proof case is striking.
Small Boats Under Covid Conditions, Maine, 2020

We're back in the Boothbay Region, with boats, but Covid makes it different. This time I will talk about cameras and boats, and maybe wax a bit philosophical. The sailing and kayaking was good, and was our once chance that year to really get out, and have some fun. We are, and were, truly blessed; we did not losing anyone in our family to Covid, and whatever economic harm caused was quite manag...

A Foggy Day in Maine ASMR

What is there to say? We had a foggy day, I pointed a camera at it. Besides the - obvious - fog horn, and passing boats, you can hear birds, including an osprey. I hope you enjoy, and if not, there are no refunds.

1:35 Yep yep yep. Somewhere behind that first row of houses
"apologies"
You should apologies for my apologizes
"Audience"
I'm glad my audience knows how to spell.
I had a dinghy back in the 70's that was the same size (if not a touch larger) than your Dyer Dhow. It was not equipped for sails, but it DID have oarlocks and oars.... and was not dependent on the wind (and I bet it was just as fast)
Funny thing, I have a set or oars and oarlocks - OEM - sitting about my house for some reason.
Last day this week. It was great
Well THAT was painful for my OCD
0:04 is the campsite in this photo waskake? just looks familiar
I do believe you are right.
Great job Ryan!
Agreed.
4:12 ...um, huh?
Perhaps if you used a camera that _looked_ like a video camera, instead of a static image camera, they would not be confused.....
Why would I help therm like that? Such a dumb idea.
OK, serious answer; besides "That's not how cameras work" being a running joke (since a Scout, now in college, held a pose at Deer Lake), compact cameras, like Sony DSC series, and Olympus Tough, allow me to rapidly transition between hands on and shooting video - as I discovered at an Eagle project last year, when transitioning from shooting with a Sony prosumer to being useful, and back, proved to be problematic. The right tool for the job at hand.
In MY day.... nail-guns used .22 caliber blanks!
Helmets? (shaking my fully functional head) Last time I went downhill was 1985, and we didn't have helmets.... It's a different world I guess.
Remember back in the '70s, and even the '80s, and the one guy saying, "Kids, wear a bike helmet." was Eval Kenievel? It was a different time. I am looking to get my own, so I can mount a camera on it, and other things, that they frown on if you do that to a rental helmet.
I will be nice having that canopy for future… Never mind
I still like it better than the Blackstone.
hi! Im in the process of restoring one myself, love what you did here. Question, im having a LOT of trouble fitting/installing the new clamp. C-clamping it down is a bit of a nightmare! any advice? does it need to be flush against the hull all the way around before nailing? thanks!!
Good question, which my mushy brain is struggling with. I have been meaning to make a full video on restoring the rails. My quick, cheep answer is, have lots of clamps on hand to help you get the wood just where you want it, and work patiently. I'll try to dig up more information for you, and get that restoration video in the can. Thank you for your kind words and interest.
i heard some kid say that medicine bow is just a bridge from three point to sandy beach
🤣🤣🤣 Them's fighting' words. 😡
8:32 .... NICE view! 11:08 ....and now you know why the ski lift keeps stopping. 12:04 ...Mr. Ellis says a BAD word!
The Kung Fu starts at 14:43.
If you are here just for the Kung Fu, feel free to skip to 4:57.
Out of the parades of Manhattan, Flushing, Montral, Boston, DC, this show was outstanding with the young people Kung Fu show, Bravos. If I knew it is available in New Haven, I will definitely go.
I wonder what date this has been filmed / recorded about this Yawgoog rainstorm part
Summer of 2019, I want to say Week 4.
Awesome!! I’m from Troop 66, Cranston Garden City RI. I know that our troop is very well known.
Thanks. Nice.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who makes scouting videos
Nearly my entire content is Scouting; I had plans, but Covid knocked a lot of travel on the head, and so good habits died, and some of the other projects I just haven't gotten to because I still have lots of Scouting video to edit yet.
I’m going on a ski trip with the Boy Scouts in New England in a week or so. I,ll probably make a post on it. I’m glad I found this channel. Atleast I’m not the only one who makes RUclips videos about Scouts.
We're back from our most recent trip, but computer problems are preventing me from exporting the two videos I made (full length an 3 min), so I got around to 2022's ski videos, which re up now. I think I know what you mean, because some times people don't get it. Fortunately, many of our Scouts do, and enjoy seeing themselves in action.
As long s your videos do not ID scouts, and do not reveal future event dates/locations, your videos would be Youth Protection compliant.
@@haroldellis9721 yeah, it’s great seeing that some of the youth nowadays still want to be scouts and like enjoying the outdoors. I don’t upload videos on this channel but on our Troops channel I upload some of the events we do as a troop.
2:11 time to get that Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt ready
For those of you not in on the joke, during a major construction project I managed, our "workmen's comp" program was a free Lynyrd Skynyrd tee, complete with Stars and Bars, and a trip to the middle of Newhallvile - zero reported injuries.

Which we now have added to the list of standing jokes for Troop 608 videos.
yawgoog was some of the best years of my life, think i did medicine bow 7 years in a row i believe a with year with troop 1 Manville RI the rest with troop 711 Albion RI
Nice. We have had three trips, with a Troop now run by a friend I was in Troop 10, Cos Cob, with. This was my guys' first Scouting adventure, and now they are nearly done with Eagle.
Nothing warms a person up after a cold day better than root beer floats?
This is New England; ice cream is a welcome winter treat.
Troop 284 copiague my .it's been 30 yrs and I still remember the medicine bow song and will never forget the great times I had their!!!. Rah rah rah yea
I'm terrible at remembering song lyrics; I can only manage a few lines, even from my favorite songs. But I have memories from Seaton - from 40 years ago. Creating good memories is a very important thing, isn't it?
Troop 284 from '87 to '93 here. Made my first visit to Yawgoog and MB in over 30 years last weekend, fell in love with Yawgoog all over again. Cheers!
A Mainer who used to live in the woods, definitely a nostalgic sound.
I should do a deep woods ASMR next. Thank you.
I think they called this 7' 11" version the "midget" at the time. Probably not anymore, however. Thank you for your engaging, sensitive and not overly-filtered narrative.
Thank you for the super-shaky-cam footage at the end. Were you having a stroke?
You are welcome, and no, not yet.
Nice job
Top Shelf! Keep up the Great Work!
Hi Mr Ellis do you work at a middle school (I’m not telling the name cuz the comments will see it) I go to that school as well you were my Computer Teacher for MP1 you must know Mr Kearney who was our former Computer Teacher at the school
Hi, yes this is me. I have meet Mr. Kearney, but I don't know him very well. Depending on which high school you go to, you may have him again. I hope you enjoyed Computers.
"ANOUTHER task that is easier"?????
It is the British spelling, and if that web page said otherwise, remember the Internet is packed full of lies.
I have a question about registering for a civilian course. I've ran with rotc but I want to do it on my own. I just want to know how to do it.
Glad you asked. Where are you? There are various Local Clubs that have their own web site and schedule. Typically, you can show up, sign up then and there, and run a course or more. If you go here, you can find a local club (or two, I belong to WCOC and HVO): orienteeringusa.org/events/clubs/ Membership in USOF and/or a Local Club is not required, but of course is always welcome. A few events do require preregistration, but that is very rare.
@@haroldellis9721 I'm in florida. I just looked it up and found a website with a club in my area. I will look around for registration. Thank you.
@@gamingwithcam6600 Fantastic, and thank you, as this exchange makes the time spent editing this video totally worth it.

"I mute or edit around any time a scot's name..." What do you have against the Scots? "This even really calls for a second camera" I even really agree with you. "new time, I would have a dark hood" I would use a hood, even in Old time! "My apologize for the terrible camera work" ....and my apologies for correcting your spelling.
Nothing, darn it. You might not know this, but my Mom was an English Teacher, and English is my native language. Next time is a new time, this time is an old time. Couldn't correct it before I spent nearly a day uploading this? OK, I am thinking of fixing the spelling/text problems, and using a map zoom to cover the problematic opening camera work. Thinking.
I think I'd stick with a tricycle.
Pashley does make some nice trikes, so that is something to look into.
Not even the mechanized Troop 10 had ice cream trucks...I remember a different time 🤣
A lot has changed, how I miss the '80s.
this is totally different from when I was in the boy scouts in the 60s.
I can guess. I was in during the '80s, and a lot has changed. Albeit, I did not go to Yawgoog then, so I do not have that frame of reference.
Set on Death! Lol
What’s up man? That looks like fun!Trying to get in touch. You won Traveling Joe!
Not a lot to see on the FLIR side of the screen, fireworks-wise.
Agreed. I think this video would a lot more interesting with FLIR superimposed over conventional, but that will have to wait a year. Meanwhile, I think I may make some other FLIR comparison videos of various things and situations.
