Living With Ataxia

Добавлен 1 апр 2023
Hello, My name is Art Thomas and I have Acquired Ataxia due to seizures and strokes to the cerebellum. The cerebellum is considered the small or little brain and is responsible for motor skills. This neurological disease is called Ataxia. It is the #1 disease that no one has heard about. Think of it like multiple sclerosis or MS on steroids.
I shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with Ataxia while showcasing their incredible ability to overcome limitations. Join me on an emotional journey as we explore the triumphs, struggles, and resilience of those living with this neurological disorder.
Ataxia is a rare condition that affects coordination, balance, and speech due to damage to the cerebellum or nervous system. Despite the obstacles they face, individuals with Ataxia demonstrate immense courage and determination as they strive to live fulfilling lives.

Good morning Art@ Dan. I love these videos. It was so informative. I love the farmers walk. Ordinary walking. I love this so much . U have answered many of my questions concerning stem cell research. Your videos are so real life. Thank you for making these videos for us. God bless you more.
Thank you. Most, if not all, information about Ataxia out there is not correct because everything is funded by the FDA and big pharma. It's all about money and just remember a healthy person is not good for business.

Good morning Art. This is a GREAT video. WOW! The exercise on balancing one leg is very hard for me. Walking backwards toe to heel is also hard. Thank you for encouraging us. We see ourself in you. Thanks 🙏🏾 again . I thank you for these demonstrations. 🙏🏾

Good morning Art, “ OMG “ 😮be careful 😊. U are teaching me control, I take All these lessons to heart ♥️. Thank you 🙏🏾. When I walk, lift @ do a little stairs I remember u , control is the key. Thank u again 🙏🏾.
Thank you for telling us about how we can track our progress. I too have an apple phone. Your information is so on time

Good morning Art, WOW 😮 what a different experience. I will get walking as soon as it gets all light outside. I have learned something from your videos, I must control my movements . It ‘s all about control. Not flopping around, and falling. I see how you move with precision. Thank you 🙏🏾.

@@debrasmith6747 I’m sorry. I know you have been told you’re going to stay the same or get worse. That’s not true, if you have the right advice and do the right exercises you don’t have to.
Hey Art, “ Living with Ataxia “ I love all the first few exercises. I don’t like sit ups. U make everything look easy but I know it isn’t. Thank U 🙏🏾 for helping me. Keep them videos coming .
@@debrasmith6747 I understand that. It might look easy now but I started with not even being able to move. It took years
Wow you stand up wit😅falling over and your balance is great while standing still. Do you loose your balance when getting up from standing? My balance is so off I still haven't found help with my Ataxia 😢
@@godmadethedonkeytalkjuliem8404 trust me, I don't have any footage, but I couldn't stand at all, barely move, and doctors all said I will remain the same and get worse. What you are seeing is over 3 years of work that anyone can do, but most people don't because they're told it's not possible or it's too hard. It's very very hard. I still fall all the time, but I would say 95% is on my own because I consistently push my nervous system to the limit.
This is wonderful work ❤

WOW 😮!!! That’s incredible. U have to have upper body strength for that. I am only walking M-F. Thanks 🙏🏾 keep your videos coming. I look forward to learning.
@@debrasmith6747 actually it’s definitely a lower body and balance exercise. Limited upper body. Not to help the upper body.
Warriors! As somebody with ataxia, I understand some of the thoughts that go through your head while working out! The thoughts alone are overwhelming (not to mention the balance issue 😅) which is why these videos are so encouraging! It’s one thing to see a fitness RUclipsr suggesting something they got from Google. It’s another to see someone with ataxia actually conquering!
Very true. I wanted to help encourage people because everyone gets told they can't do something, and most of the information out there about Ataxia is just wrong. People believe it though for some reason. I'm trying to change that. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom.
Thanks for the inspiration! Considering this for a goal! I used to do thousands of pushups….and then I acquired ataxia, so 😅. I’ve been so far mentally downhill it’s not even funny…but I’m slowly doing what I can (seated shadowboxing, eating more nutrient-dense food, tracking vitals & symptoms) I keep ending up back on your channel’s videos!
Thank you. Yeah, pushups are much more difficult now, but they get better little by little. At a snails pace haha. Food/diet is HUGE! Probably the most overlooked thing, and most people do not pay attention to it unfortunately.
Love the effort! Love the coaching! It’s what I needed instead of that crappy physical therapy I got (not saying any names because I’m still on the insurance 😅) #ataxia #multiplesclerosis #neuropathy
PT will only get you so far. To go further it's up to you
Warrior!
To a dude with acquired ataxia, this is inspiring! If there are any videos that share exercises for ataxia, they don't share what it takes to do the exercises! That's what's missing for someone like me!
@@Mutant_Potential thank you very much! I hope I can help. Unfortunately, I didn’t record anything when I was in a wheelchair but I’m trying to cover everything.
@@Living_With_AtaxiaYou covered more than enough!! 💪🏽💪🏽🔥

I walk 5 days a week, but that is a extremely hard exercise. Maybe I’ll try it one day. Thanks for the info. You do some hard stuff 😊.
Walking is extremely good. If you can, try to work with a prowler/sled because it will really stress the nervous system which anyone with Ataxia or neurological condition really needs. The prowler/sled is extremely hard to the point you will want to quit but don't. It does wonders and you will be thankful in the long run.
Good job as always sorry I am just getting to watch this. Like I have said before amazing. I have researched the NAF and etc. sites start a fight of my own when I feel better I will make some or many calls to see what else can be done I want to join your journey. @@debrasmith6747 I get it. Thank you!
Do the weights help your balance? From Ontario Canada I have problems trying to carry my laundry basket down stairs . Yup isn’t as diffecult down is much harder.
@@deborahtofflemire7727 it helped me at first with tremors. Not necessarily with balance. I just use them now because it provides a better exercise. You can try wrist weights and see it may help but most likely not.
Good stuff, thank you 🙏🏾.

@@stepantymofiychuk thank you
Thank you so much, i have a brain tumor on my cerebellum which has given me ataxia, i so appreciate it that you are doing this keep it up
@@loriporter7364 I’m sorry 😢. I know it’s hard but you can get a little better. Unfortunately, I would say 99.9% of people have been told they’re stuck or going to get worse. That’s only true if you don’t do anything. That’s why my trainer and I are officially launching LWA (Living With Ataxia) on October 15 because the information given is just horrendous. It’s a company where we will have exercise programs for all populations, not just those with Ataxia. We will have personalized exercise programs and nutritional counseling with access to us for questions, feedback, instruction, etc. I wish I had someone doing what I am but I had no one and I was one of those people that was told I will stay in a wheelchair.
Dextrose is not just another form of sugar. It is somewhat *worse* than normal sugar. Higher glycemic index than sugar for a bigger glucose spike. For powdered foods and supplements it is often used as a flow agent. For some supplements it is used because it causes a glucose spike, which might improve uptake. Personally, I stay away from anything containing dextrose / maltodextrin / maltodextrose. For foods, it is one of the indicators of ultra-processing.
@@trail.blazer you’re absolutely right. People don’t know what it is for the most part, and I’m trying to also tell people to stay away from sugar. It’s really bad for the brain, among other things, but sometimes it goes in one ear and out the other. I’m trying to come up with a way to explain that anything that ends with “OSE” is usually some type of sugar.
I was diagnosed with ataxia type 3 3 yrs ago
