Hi, You made a really great job I have a similar module in my MB, do You remember how big amplitude is needed on crankshaft position sensor input? or is it matter? because I have a problem with ignition. thanks for answer.
Jordan, your load cell should go on the opposite side, unless you're planning on using a tension load cell. I've only ever seen compression load cells used on these dynos. just a thought. Al...
wow, really nice project! what dyno software are you planning to use?
@@1992Muz Thanks! I am not sure yet. I may make my own or use YourDyno.
Looks like you have a cool project ahead of you. What engine do you plan on using?
@@nickthomson9723 Thanks! I wanted to run a turbo Vortec 4200 but I worry that it won't survive at 600hp for extended periods of time. So probably a junk yard 5.3... I do have that 5.7L Hemi...
Hello sir, are the failure ezl can affect high idle even in the limp mode ,and the tachometer cluster cannot revs more than 3500 rpm ,engine seems no problem coz keep screaming
Super 👏
How much did they cost? Looking to do my own as well.
Thank you for all these details!! I'm looking forward to the whole electrical part (wiring, power supply, software, calibration...)
This is fantastic and much appreciated from those of us that are CAD illiterate! You have definitely been the best DIY dyno resource I have come across anywhere. Thank you.
Looks awesome so far man, thanks for the update! I'm stoked to see where this goes. Your videos are the only in-depth resource I can find on the internet lol
Thanks! There are some forums with information, though most are still lacking... I am trying but it is hard to find time to show all the design and actually do it.
I've been waiting hastily for the next video in the hub dyno series. I'm so excited to see where this project goes. Do you think we'll get a new video soon?
Thank you for documenting your process, I look forward to your future videos!
dude mout that vfd somewhere where chips wont get into it. use 10k pots and 24v switches to control it remotely
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
thanks ❤
I have a 1986 420 SEL with less than 86,000K in excellent condition in and out. However I am interested to convert the Bosh jettronic to EFI. Anyone interested in doing the work willing to SSSS. Please let me know.
I am around the gulf coast, usa.
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this in prior comments (disclaimer, I haven't read though them), but if I were to build my own dyno, I would consult with someone like Steve Morris (who's openly shown his DIY dyno on his channel).. More over not so much for the principles involved, but for real world cost info on how much you might spend vs buying a turn-key type. Edit* provided you're open to a non-chassis based dyno.
Yeah I have worked through the cost a good bit in detail. Of course there are some unknowns, but not outside the realm of estimating. Some of the cheapest hub dyno systems I have found are still starting above 70k. I will be around 17k with this system. It helps I have machinist friends and work with engine dynos for a living. Steve Morris has some great videos.
@@carsandengineering2022 yeah after watching more of your video, I realized you're after an electrical breaking type dyno, where as Steve's is your typical water-brake (eddy) type dyno, while also more so specific to direct flywheel measured power.
Where did you purchase the retarder?
Chrome ways where the carriage slides.
Ah, that makes sense. I was wondering why they are the only ways so shiny.
Thats very cool. Im quite interested in what you come up with for a solution for getting from the hubs to the PAU.
Thanks! Me too! Haha. Right now I am planning to use QD (type sf or sk) bushings with weld on steel hubs. Weld those hubs to some sort of "cup" or "bowl" shaped hub that will have the bolt pattern to attach the different vehicle hub adapters.
What did they cost ?
I can't wait to see the rest of your build and design process.
Have any problems with the carburetor
Carburetor?
How about the chinese alternatives? How are they priced, and what made you not going for them?
I am not sure about shipping cost. If the shipping was the same, then the chinese models could have saved me around $2k. However, documentation was not clear, communication was difficult, and they had significantly lower speed ratings. The Klam retarders had excellent data sheets and are made of stainless steel. They also have warranties.
I cant wait to see how this progresses, thanks for making the videos!
Very cool! I hope you continue to document this project. I too have been researching this exact same project myself. It would be "easy" to just simply order a Mainline hub dyno, but you know all too well its easily $100k for a base dyno shipped to the US... just not possible for myself to pay that kind of money to test and tune my vehicles as well as some friends...
👌
hi, I am build a couple of dynos a hub dyno 2wd with electronics from yourdyno and a small dyno hub for go kart and the roller dyno is true all you comments about of it for my is very dangerous the roller dyno deformation of tires and some times the car take direction for some side and the disaster
You are a smart dude!

I have the 1990 560sel and was wondering if it would be the same process
I would think so.
Sir, what outer diameter of throttle body? I want do some tube to air cleaner box.. And don't know, what diameter.
3 inch tubing is a little tight but it does fit.
@@carsandengineering2022 thank u!!!!
Very nice sir!!! Thank u for helping!!!!!! 👍👍👍
I think you need the 8 points EZL module to configure it & to replace it by your magic touch. Have a great life.
WOW. I really see your magic in this video extremely in high level. All the best.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think it will be nice to put T pipe for the air intakes for 2 sides left & right. Maybe you can seal it by an excellent silicone. All the best & have a great life.
Now the crocodile will fly. WOW. Smooth RPM revs. Gorgeous sound. We need full send from 0 to 160 mph. All the best. Keep this spirit at higher quality levels only.
Hahaha I am not sure this thing will even do much over 160KPH.
@@carsandengineering2022 I think it will make it over 160 mph. One time I was driving my 1989 560SEL White after replacing the spider fuel injection head. And I raced an Infiniti G35 I think I reached around 120 to 140. In my opinion was in bad situation. I think your car after what you done to it it will brake the 160 mph record too easy. Just try once you finish this project. All the best & have a great life. A Mercedes 560 Lover.
I just had the same issue with starter where did you buy yours?
I got mine from oreillys. It was not expensive but I had to run a tap through the starter to clean up the threads.
The center of exhaust which looks like a second cat is just an H pipe
Very interesting, an H pipe wouldn't do anything on a single exhaust. I wonder why they did that.
Well done. Gorgeous work. If you need any extra maintenance advice I will be glad to help.
Great work. Does the factory tacho work on the dash?
Thanks! Yes, towards the end of the video I think, I show it. Just had to connect the Microsquirt Tach Out wire to the cars wires by the diagnostic connector.
@@carsandengineering2022 i missed that bit, just re watched the video.
Good job! Interesting project! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! I think I am going to try to reverse the timing map out of the EZL since I do not have a dyno.
@@carsandengineering2022 that would be interesting to see, they have quite a map depending on a wide variety of environmental conditions and they store, like the ECU, the last 30 starts / drives. If the EZL is completely reset then the last 30 starts / drives are erased and the unit defaults to a standard map until 30 starts / drives have been completed. This is a FIFO scheme. The original system adjust itself to changes in engine over time
@@inovahightechltd Really? Thats amazing. What feedback is it using to adjust the timing parameters? My car does not have knock sensors. I was hoping to just connect it to a signal generator on my bench and scope it as I change RPM and manifold pressure.
@@carsandengineering2022 the timing is observed by the rear rpm sensor which is a pulse signal off the flywheel. The flywheel has 4 indents at each 90 degree increments. The EZL also creates the TD signal from this input. Further the EZL connects to the Manifold pressure and coolant temp, it is from this combination that the Siemens 16 Bit microcontroller with software written in Assembler back then calculates and determines various environmental and engine conditions. A miss or knocking is picked up via manifold pressure and coolant temp and timing angle from flywheel. Pretty slick system if everything around it works correctly. There were 4 revisions of the EZL from 1986 to 1992, each one will run the engine a bit different.
@@inovahightechltd wow, thanks for the info! Do you have any other option for me to figure out the ignition advance table?
WOW. Your work like A Fancy Magic. You have a gold brain & a diamond hands.
Always amazes me the way mercedes chose to run the distributor on these w126s so many issues
Wonderful thing how much does the ignition cleaner and injection system cost and is it a perfect ignition
Hello, I am not sure I understood your question fully. I plan to create a spreadsheet with the total cost. A rough estimate is the entire conversion cost me about $900. I would expect selling the original parts will help pay that off.
