Farmer Clay
Добавлен 19 окт 2013
Just horsing around and videoing some of my repairs and farming operations that I have been doing on my Grandfathers farm for the last 20 years. Still figuring out the videoing part, but the repairs seem to work.... well mostly.
Rebuilding the hubs on a FarmHand F32A manure spreader.
Working on another F32A manure spreader and the left side axle tube was pretty busted up. I had it repaired before I started youtube but this project has been in the works for while and just trying to get it finished up. I hope this video helps someone as I could not find any like it covering this model. Thank you for Watching! @billings-farmhand-inc @tapmagic3232

Farmhand Manure spreader apron repairs. How many cross bars could there be?
Просмотров 18914 дней назад
Something was causing the apron to break bolts on the crossbars and jump the sprocket. This manure spreader was one of my very first projects that my grandfather and I worked on to restore. Mainly he bought me parts and I did the work. We have both spent many hours pulling this spreader and now my son pulls it too.

Used the Massey Ferguson 4707 with a New Holland 1475 to cut the hay. Then I attached the LMC 8907 hay rake to combine the windrows. Finally I used the Allis Chalmers 7000 and New Holland 660 round baler to bale up most of the field excluding what the International 430 baler baled up. It was a busy week with another ahead of us. This is a homemade wire roller I built to salvage most of the newer woven wire fences on my Grandparents farm. It has been a great tool for wrapping up both woven and barb wire fences. Thanks for watching!

The only thing to make spreader repairs more fun is when there is frozen manure all over the spreader. I remember watching my Dad deal with that.
great progress
sweet, hope it works like a good glove
nice
Thank you!
@@FarmerClay anytime your good
you farmers ever paint your buildings to keep them up?
Yeah, but its been a while. Most of ours are tin but we have one wooden one left. We have been terrible about upkeep lol
@@FarmerClay glad I found your channel, great content and nice to follow
alot cheaper than a new one forsure
Thats for sure!
That really works good. Does it run on a 3rd function on the loader?
Yes I can run it on the factory third function. I also ran a second set of hoses and built the factory 4th function option it required that I ran two lines to the rear of the tractor and plugged into my third rear remote. I like using the rear remote since it has a flow control and can lock the lever to engage it.
Good work! that was one challenging press job. I recently acquired a WM with blade and winch. Got it running, but hard starting and no power/ won't run high (enough) RPM. Choking helps a bit. thinking too lean maybe due to air leakage at carb gasket. Hoping I'll be lucky and have less mechanicals to refurbish than your project.
@@chuckforman9713 there is a pipe for the air intake that passes through the exhaust manifold. Sometimes they rust out and allow exhaust to be sucked into the intake messing with your air/fuel mixture ratio.

Just found your channel. Subbed. I'm in Valier, Mt. I worked on a hay farm for 5 years. I loved it. I have two channels. Montana MuSings Outdoor Channel and Futures and Charts. Check them out and let me know if you like them. Good luck!
When something is being difficult it makes me think of what my old friend used to say, we don’t ask it we tell it!
Glad i found your channel. I'm in Central Montana. I've been curious, what is the main reason for raking two rows together, does it save a lot of time, or does it just make a better bale, or...?
For us we always raked them to help dry and when we went to a baler that has a larger pickup capacity we just started raking them together. It saves fuel and time when baling. Some areas of Montana have small windows of dew in the morning of when they can bale without losing the leaves so every minute matters to them.
How did you break the throttle? And its not under warranty?
@@stevenbertrand8508 just came off in my hand. No the warranty is up. But Billings Farmhand has it coming for me.
Wow that could have been really bad if you didnt see it and started raking.
Nice project......been looking off and on for a crawler of similar size. Have an eye on a Cletrac but its in Wisconsin.
Appreciate your Vids. Starts after Magneto rework, "Is That good?" "That's Damned good, Real Good!" Planning to make offer on Decent looking, but not running M dozer close to me. Your videos have really helped me understand what I might be getting in to. Thanks.

I have a similar project, could you sell me an air cleaner and an oil filter foot?
do you have an e mail address you would be willing to share ? I have some spare parts if you run into a problem

You're doing great work consider a silicone heat pad for the oil pan would be a shame to starve it for oil

I will try that. Ultimately I plan on putting a cable throttle on it. Thank you Mr Cassidy! It was good to see you the other day at lunch.
@@FarmerClaygood to see you. there is a way to recharge the magnet in the magnito
most four cylinders are 1-3=4=2
For the model S and model K that is correct. For the model M per the manual it’s 1-2-4-3
Good to see your back working on the M. I have a 1939 WM here in Wyoming. It runs great but I am struggling to fix the steering clutches.
Let me know if you have any questions. I’m not an expert, but I have stared at them for quite a while.
It's complicated, but to make a long story short, the steering clutches were frozen from 30 years of sitting. Pulled off the final drives but couldn't pull the clutch hub off the shaft, even with lots of heat and a 50 ton puller. It is possible to replace the clutch discs without pulling the hub. I got new clutch discs from General Gear in Boise and put them on. They are not OEM so I think they are slightly thicker, so that when the bolts are tightened on the pressure plate, the springs are so compressed that there is no give left in the thrust plate when the steering lever is pulled back. I don't know if you remember how much the thrust plate stuck out when you had the transmission cover off. It would be the plate the bearings other steering fork ride on when the steering lever is pulled back. I have a service manual but it doesn't have a whole lot of detail.
@@lekinwyo822 there is another lever adjustment under the transmission cover plate. That’s where my issue was in the right stick of the steering clutches. I have my 39 apart still and will go take a look at it
@@FarmerClay Yes, I tried making that adjustment on the underside of the transmission cover. Puĺling the lever back needs to push the thrust plate in enough to be able to compress the springs enough to allow the discs to slip which in turn disengages the track when the lever is pulled back . Even with max adjustment, the thrust plate isn't moving enough. I plan on calling the folks at General Gear when I get home and start working on the M again. Folks say they are very knowledgeable. I also need a brake band and they have several Ms for parts.
Thats a great lesson on converting the coil! I've bought parts magnetos that have had modifactions for going that route! Will be a nice crawler when you get it done! I'm working on trying to get the steering clutches unstuck on my M, I had it for about 3 years. It sat in my buddy's museum for 20. It worked when I first got it. The right works again, I have videos on my channel of it! Getting ready to buy an Allis K crawler next month from same friend, and then looking at a possible Allis forklift project. Keep up the great work!!!
There is a wash procedure for the clutches in the M manual. Thankfully mine were not stuck just misadjusted. and broken brake pedals.
No electricity is conducted through the rusty parts. A magneto generates electricity.
i also have m with loader
Intake/exhaust manifold has a thin tube for the intake, heated by the exhaust, they rot out... Made this way to run on distillate
I made a new one and pressed it in. It was rotten pretty bad.
Its fun watching you get it going! Im also getting a M crawler going right now and also using av gas lol. I also had to go thru the ignition and reset the points and clean it all up. I was lucky mine ended up working after all that. We also got very lucky we didnt bend a rod ect when we first tried starting it the cylinders had alot of water in them from the oil bath air cleaner being filled. After all that and having a couple other goofs along the way I got it going and it starts right up and purs. Crazy for a engine made around 1938!! Currently cleaning the cooling system out, got the radiator, water pump, ect all apart. It looks like you dont have a glass fuel strainer? If not you can get them at tractor supply for 40 bucks. Anyways hope yall are staying warm n safe, look foward to seeing more videos! Also if youre not already on the allis chalmers forum, check it out.
I have a 39 I’m using for parts if you need anything.
@@FarmerClay Thanks for the offer really appreciate it. Might take ya up on it but so far the main thing it needs is new track chain bushing and pins. Also probably new steering clutch rings n pads. I have a post up about some of my progress on the allis forum in constuction under (allis "m" radiator rebuild)
in the exhaust manifold, there is a steel tube that carries the gas/air mixture up to the intake manifold warming this air mixture as it goes up. This tube can deteriorate over time. Did you check this?
Yes I did. I actually replaced that tube in this exhaust manifold.
Don't hit the brakes hard when backing up, it will break the adjusting rod or yoke.
that is a good thing to know. I had no clue. Thank you! Thank You!
I have a working 1938 WM on my property in Wisconsin. When you get to putting fluids in it I'd love to hear what you plan to use. I just bought it this year and I'd like to refresh what is in it.
Hey I'm also working on a allis M. Do ya still have the donor for parts? And are ya willing to sell any of them?
Find me on Facebook McCaffree Farm & Repair and message me. We can discuss what I have left of her
It's weird how the throttle linkage for the carb goes inside the engine block. Is it in oil or water or neither? It's just in it's own cavity?
It has an O-ring on the shaft on the right side block and a dry cavity thought the engine block. Pretty cool setup. Pain to line up though.
Any updates yet? Is it done?
Soooooo No it’s not. I just recently moved so it’s been on hold. Butttttttt I started cleaning the bay next to it to hopefully start working on it this week.
Nice to see someone working on an Alice Chalmers. I have one roughly 1966 model. Been parked for about 25 years
Starter is a big plus but kind of fun to start with a crank.
I see by the seat back you have the later model. It has a slightly larger bore than the original. The one I ran was the older model. It had lots of power. Kept up with a 5U D2 discing with 6' 9" discs 4 th gear in both. I had the late model like yours in the shop for a valve job that never got done, son moved it outside and has been setting for years. I had the original shop manual for it but traded it off for a Farmall A carcass.
Yes it’s a 1942. The serial number is in the 16*** range so it late production. I am eager to put some tillage behind it to see what it will do. Thank you for sharing!!!!
