Love the background music
My uncle was in last graduating class in 50s in p51 mustangs before they went to jets. Lost him in korea. I go past the old closed down base about once a week on my delivery route. Gets me everytime.
I grew up in Selma, moved from there in 1970. I remember seeing the Thunderbirds there flying the F-100, maybe I was in the crowd around 6:30. The house next door to ours was a rental and my neighbors were often guys going through flight training and sometimes they'd take us out to Craig to see the jets. Jets were always flying over and I remember the T-33's, then the T-37's and the T-38's.
should see it now ! Run down . Selma died the day the Air Force left .
Ran across my birth certificate and was curious to see what Craig look like was born at the hospital 1955 was that tall building in the video of the hospital?
It’s at 6:42 in the video,
My dad was stationed at Craig AFB from 1954 when I was 6 months old until 1957. My brother was born there in 1955. I had a thick Southern accent by the time we left…for England where we lived for 5 yrs. I have some vivid memories from my Alabama days when we lived in base housing. Thanks for sharing this video.
I was working at the Wilby on the day it burned. Love these old pictures.
This was a treat even though it isn’t Christmas.
Walmart became the one-stop shopping spot.
RIP Ed Greene. 1:53
Were you the one who posted some recording from inside the convention center shortly after it was opened? Ed Green was in it. He died recently and I wanted to hear him laugh again.
I remember all of this
We need more videos like this
This was when Selma was a thriving city. Great memories
Picks Hamburgers best hamburger ever made. McDonalds could never compare.
I have so many childhood memories of Craig Airforce Base, as a child I use to babysit for my aunt who lived on the base, also we use to sit on the side of the road and watch the planes land when I was in Elementary School at New Knox Elementary, when I was at Selma High School there was a soldier from Craig Airforce Base that came to Selma High School and recruited the best runners and we became the Selma Striders Girls Track Team in which I was the captain in 1975, the year I graduated from Selma High School. I can't remember his name but he would take us to colleges in Alabama and we competed with College Students at different track meets, I never ran on the Selma High School track team because I proudly ran for the Craig Airforce Base Selma Striders, thanks so much for posting this video, such great memories. 🤗🤗🤗🤗
I went to A.G. Parrish H.S. and we moved after my sophomore year in 1970. They changed the name shortly after to Selma H.S.
And now bye bye belk
Awful
My dad worked at Kwik Way. So many memories
Ahhh back when having fun was legal. Nowadays one needs a permit and has to pay a fee/tax.
The mall is abandoned only a couple of stores

Super Cooper!
Love this it is great.
Oh, look, the Pollard building is being taken down for an eyesore parking lot. Selma's on the move!
I worked at Channel 8 from 1977 to 1979. I was a Master Control Operator and also directed the 6pm newscast. Those commercials bring back lots of memories. It's highly likely that I helped put at least one or two of them together!
' better time to clean up remove all many homes / apts / churchs / offices / stores
Doug, we always called that beach, "Long Beach" (the Jim Cox one) when I was a teenager. I think that's a nice way to honor him.
Love this!!
Love this!!!!
We had fun back then
Lived 2miles from there and worked there in highschool. I also married my wife there! Wonderful place
Very nice! Imagine my surprise to see a pic of me and my running buddies mugging for the camera my Dad carried out back of our quarters in Pine Glenn......Great memories.
Such great memories. Was a great place for a youngster to grow up in. Memories forever. WC
I have spent many Drunken moments on that sand bar,,🤣
I remember that bridge when I was there as a little kid like 43 years ago 😥
Yea the only damn thing to do in Selma!
Interesting
Love the music with this video! 🙂
Yay, thank you!
You came to my town!
Love these commercials. I am a native of Selma. My twin brother and I were in a commercial for Bobs Grocery when we were very small. I really wish I could find that commercial!
My dad (1933-2019) was born and raised in Selma and graduated from AG Parrish HS. He is buried in New Live Oak Cemetery there. I would have loved to have shown him this slideshow - he would have really enjoyed it! Thanks so much for sharing!
The sandbar
Wow good show. A few lost me but I got the location of most of them. Not to be picky, but the Gibson's Discount Center at the very end doesn't look right. The Selma store was much larger and distanced lots more from the sign. Still, bravo. It's so sad to see the shape of the town today.
I was just there a couple months ago Citi Trends was lit ❤
no thats drunk at the boat ramp 🤣
Nothing like the beach!
