Foiling In a Giant Swimming Pool!! - Fliteboard Ultra - eFoil - Sandy Bay WA - Skydio 2+
My annual pilgrimage to the North of Western Australia - albeit a bit late this year
Scored a glass off day at one of the most spectacular beaches in Australia - Sandy Bay
Decided to throw the drone up and the mic on and film a quick raw run
The Skydio was having a bit of a wig out with the clear water haha!
Random things I discuss
- Cruiser Jet 1500/300 wings for learners
- Flite App Wave Distance Leaderboard
- Front Wing Shimming
- Custom foot strap inserts
- Weather patterns…
Here’s the set-up -
Board:
Series 3 Ultra / foot straps
Series 3 80cm eFoil
Flitecell Nano
Jet 1500 / 300 wings
2deg back shim
-1 deg front shim
High Fly folding prop

What bag do you use to keep the beacon dry?
I don’t understand what wave you are riding.
I am thinking about getting into efoiling. How do you keep your Skydio beacon dried?
As the Poms would say, this is the dog's danglers! And the music accompanying is the bomb!
Aside from surfing, for down winding and depowered pumping small waves do you prefer the foot straps or was there another reason you always use them? I'm looking to get an Ultra and planned for the Ultra L. I mainly do flatwater but hope to get into wake stealing and downwind depowered on the Columbia river.
If I still had an eFoil I’d be getting the L2 which doesn’t have strap inserts, but I’m waiting for the FliteLab Amp Jet My background was kiting in boots so I prefer the feel of straps, although after this was filmed I added another insert on the Freon foot as I was never fully satisfied with the stance
fckn shories!
how many sets of masts and wings and boards do you end up collecting? i'm thinking from a cost persepctive?
Expensive in a exagerate way !
Good video. Thanks
What is the charge time of the Nano when using the basic charger?
Are you using a wireless mic connected to the Skydio? (I didn't think the Skydio came with a wireless mic.) Also, Your efoil is the only one I've seen with the foot straps... is that something that you can attach to any efoil board, and how does it improve the experience?
It's an InstaMic Pro+ There are inserts on the Flite Ultra and one of the Pro models You could stick 3rd party options to other boards I'm all for riding strapped, but the majority of people don't use them I came from kiteboarding in boots
Thanks for the quick reply. So does the instamic Pro+ record to the Skydio or to your phone? - Also, have you ever run your foil aground in shallow water?@@paularity_
@@AtTheZebo the InstaMic has storage so I sync the audio recording to the video in post. If you use the Skydio app to fly it will use the microphone of your phone to record audio. I mainly was doing Beacon only flights and over water so the InstaMic is quite handy for this Yeah I've scraped my foil a bunch of times, generally in any areas though as I avoid coming in near reef and rocks
Thanks agaon.... btw... I'm a 72 year old male. I have learning to efoil on my bucket list. I'm planning to retire to the Philippines later this year. I've discovered that there is a Waydoo dealer there and 1hr lessons are only about $30.@@paularity_
I have a dio 2+ and want to trust it to film surfers and body boards. Besides having it in position 3 any other things you recommend in 1 meter waves now?
Hi Paul, your videos are so great i have a question and i would like to know why you chose shim 3 with this setup ? is it your personal preference ? thanks and keep riding well
Just experimenting, pretty much always 2 on the stab -1 on the front wing and I exclusively ride flow 900/245 - this video I just borrowed that wing to wake thieve
WOW - flying constantly in this conditions. wtf - amazing to watch. This is a super inspiration for me. THX
nice! and a great track tooo
Awesome. How are you getting your audio? It’s amazing
Very cool spot!
Is this the flow 900S or flow 900?
900 is the only wing I use
@@paularity_ what battery do you normally ride then with the ultra and 900 flow?
the Nano@@worthingtoncp
@@paularity_ that’s great for waves but not flatwater. What if you’re riding flat water, the sport or explorer?
reducing weight is going to be a better performance regardless of the shorter ride time - I wouldn't recommend either. If anything get a EcoFlow Delta Max 2000 power station and charge your Nano on the go @@worthingtoncp
Was this with a Nano battery?
yep, once you downsize to a Nano it's hard to go back!
Back ❤
Amazing place!
MN60 Wave - Do you think it will make it easier to powerless eFoil?
of course... smaller diameter fuse + folding prop = less drag, HM carbon mast = more stiffness, -4kg board = less swing weight
@@paularity_ thanks. dumb question ;)
Is it possible to get up in 1m waves, 5 sec apart, deep water, and 20 knots wind? I tried on my Ultra L but couldn’t- there wasn’t enough time between waves to get on and build speed. But is there a way?
this video is literally all about riding in those conditions... sounds like you need to practice more, but admittedly is going to be more difficult if you're a heavier guy
@@paularity_ thanks for replying, but the gap between waves seemed much longer in your video...you were also able to walk out with the board past the largest swells... in my case it was too deep to do that. Each wave would pitch the board up almost vertically and push me back. Not sure if even you could have launched in these conditions?!
rich guys toys xdd
I think I've watched this video 20 times. When you going to make more like this?!
Great video! Thank you for the effort of multi-tasking with several devices. Great result.
Sounds like you have a whistling wing. If I am right about that, did you know you can Dand the trailing edge and fix it. Also apparently fliteboard will replace it under warranty
Hi Paul, really enjoy your content. I’m impressed with the audio quality and wondered how you Mount your Instamic to avoid wind noise and keep it safe?
Cheers! I have a cheap GoPro neck mount from eBay and use the action camera adapter and windshield accessories from InstaMic
What kind of leash do you use and would you recommend it to a more novice Ultra rider (who doesn’t ride big waves).
Although he isn't in this clip, I think Matt uses the Kāohi Grip Leash Double Coil 8 mm for this kind of riding. I generally don't personally wear a leash for most of the riding I do
@@paularity_ I’m worried about the board hitting me with a leash when I bail?
I appreciate your video. I am working on getting into waves, most often in a lake that is filled with wake surfers who dont mind me hovering. I am curious about speed. You mentioned you were mostly at level 4 power but that could mean a lot depending on your weight, the wing, etc. What is the range of typical speeds as you turn into a wave? On the lake, where wake surf boats go 11-13 mph I have trouble flying slowly enough. But I am working on it. I am curious about speed in the ocean.
check out some of my other videos - particularly the powerless downwinding and ferry wake thieving - where I discuss this more. On a 900 flow / 75kg you’re really nudging the stall speed at any less than 20kph
Great video
IHey Paul Great clips. I think we share similar thoughts regarding extending or exploring the efoiling limits and trying to gain a bit more credibility amongst the general foiling community and trying breakdown what i feel is a bit of a stigma regarding efoiling. I watched 2 of your DW clips, off power and powered, look goods. I should declare im riding lift. Anyway, thought i would say gday and say great job.
Thanks for the video.
Great work, really helpful tips. I've been trying to ride waves powerless for ages and seem to only be able to get power going down the face and glide for a bit. But the tips in your videos really helped, the main one being shimming up, I used to be a 0 shim is all you need. I have a pro with a flow 1100 and flow s 1300. The 1300 was my go to wing, so chuckable especially with the nano battery and really predictable. I hated my 1100 because the pitch stability was difficult in the ocean. But shimming up to a 2 and using my 110 I just get wave after wave now, the extra glide of the non flow wing makes a huge difference and with the 2 degree shim it is much more predictable in pitch. Keep up the great content
Cool video, where did you get the folding prop that will fit a Fliteboard? I looked at the Hi-Fly website and can’t fimd anything about a folding prop for Flite.
Well now that DT has admitted it publicly on Facebook I guess I can comment that Flite bought the design so I imagine it will be refined and released in the not too distant future
Sweet, it should offer less drag than True Glide, which I currently use. It might be a better option for those of us that that need less drag to ride boat wakes. @@paularity_
Great!
So how did you do that with the beacon? Was it in a dry bag?
yes a phone waterproof case, watch the Tips and Tricks 1-3 videos for more details
Not same efoil ? Black color pro
How would you compare the folding prop to the true glide? Battery and power wise. Thanks
Better glide, barely noticeable loss in efficiency under power It’s louder and takes a bit to get used to the slight change in timing when applying thrust after a glide I prefer it to the TGP as I have broken too many of them and lost confidence in the current design You can’t currently buy the foldy, but all I can say is watch this space…
@@paularity_ Thanks
I love my efoil but great white shark territory is a big nope for me
it looks like you ride so dedep out in the ocean, i ride as close to shore as i can and am terrified when i see sharks!
How much ride time with the lighter battery?
that's a pretty open ended question with a lot of variables, but check out my Flitecell Nano Game Changer video for my first ride with it
@@paularity_ will do
Hi Paul great video I’m in Perth too coming from kitesurfing to wing surfing now just waiting for my efoil to be delivered. So hope to see you out one day, one of your video of you kitesurfing the video quality is not as good as this one? Why is that
Nice! Which board did you buy? If you're talking about the Cocos Islands clip, it probably just exported at a lower quality when I migrated over from Vimeo
@@paularity_ Hi Paul yep just the cheaper one ATM, I got the Flyer one plus and to see how I go started wingfoiling last summer (so still learning) and also with friends behind the jetski's, So much fun really looking forward to the summer. Thanks for your videos they are really helpful and inspiring, Well done.
Really enjoyable videos and great choice of tunes, thanks 😊
Cheers!
What model Highfly folding prop fits the Fliteboard?
they currently aren't selling them, all I can say is to watch this space
What brand folding prop do you recommend and where can I buy one? Nice video, I am going to buy the cruiser jet 1500 wing.
highfly currently aren't selling them, all I can say is to watch this space
Why does it ride so nose high?
just the pitch on a Fliteboard by design, you can shim the front wing to level it out
Great video! Which flight mode did you use? last skydio+ firmware? the flight under the bridge was absolute crazy.
always fixed angle tracking over water - yes latest firmware, and yeah that bridge was kinda sketchy, but I'd done it before so pretty confident haha!
When New one 🙈
How do protect the beacon which is not waterproof ?
put it in a waterproof phone case with a wrist lanyard
