There's something in this PSOne era of OST that feels unique and for me, more appealing than a lot of actual sountracks in modern videogames. And is not even nostalgia because there's a lot of tracks that I didn't listened back there, but it feels like the quality of sound made a big jump from the 16bits era, but not enough to accomplish the quality of actual orquestral soundtrack that you can hear now (even if there was actually orquestal OSTs), so they needed to keep creating catchy melodies like previous generations, they were used to make more with less, but also they have better tools, so it blended all really well and those melodies plus the sound quality made those tracks very memorable and with lots of personality. Maybe it has something to do with the PSOne music chip, but I also felt that in N64 games, so I think it's something more attatched with the unique way to do these soundtracks. Later, I think something has been missing. There's always outstanding soundtracks, don't get me wrong, this is not an "old stuff rules vs new stuff suxs" kind of rambling, but I feel that something changed, and music in many games doesn't give the kind of personality and enhancement that these sounds where able to do. Some games just create "epic OSTs" but it doesn't feel "special", just another "orquestral-two-steps-from-hell-kinda-stuff-over-again" and things like that, and makes me value more this time when composers had to deal with more limitations and creativity felt more natural.

Amazing as always! I'm a huge fan of sky and water themes in music, so this compilation is going to be on repeat for quite a while. The only song I can really think of that's missing from this theme is the sky level music from Frogger (PS1/PC).
