Drift Anchor wing drop - foil surfing tow partner

First session trying out the drift anchor in the ocean. Really fun way to turn the wing into a tow vehicle. Ideal for light wind and onshore days when flagging is harder. I am just using a drift anchor off Amazon attached to my leash. Fold up the drift anchor and stuff it under my rash guard. You can tell by my laughing that I was pretty stoked at how well it was working. #wingfoiling #wingfoil...

We were lucky to get clear sky’s and a strong Aurora during our trip to Iceland. Difficult to capture the full wonder of an Aurora filling the entire sky above you but this GoPro Timelapse captured one of the more intense portions of the show that night.

North winds this January - fun 7 mile downwinder on the Space Coast. Really enjoy flagged out riding downwind riding on the wind swell. Small wind driven waves can be all time when on foil, may not looks like much but it was really fun. Enjoying my KĀOHI Black Belt waist leash too. 4 min wave from Gordon Harrison today riding his new Unifoil Hyper 2 170. Wave was so long that the video hit the 4GB max file size 3/4 of the way through - that is the small gap in the video towards the end. Got a chance to try the F-One CWC wings thanks to the demo put on by @FONECULTURE and @GoodBreezeKite Winds were light 10-12mph when I shot this. 8m was awesome for these conditions. Tons of power with smooth delivery that handled like a 6m wing. Clearly the leader for light wind wings.

This was at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral. Lots of spots to choose from here depending on conditions. Definitely message again when you arrive can tell you where we are riding that week. Good group of prone and wingers here
@@CFL_Foiler figured it was probably up there. Will give you a shout thanks. I see there is a FB group too…..at worst I’ll go pumping off a dock somewhere if you know of any good spots? but will be hoping for wind and/or waves.
@@AlexMacdonald2 there’s definitely a spot for dock starts. Oars and paddle’s park has a good setup

I use an inexpensive vinyl anchor from Amazon. Lots of options in the $20 range. To be fair there are benefits of the anchorman approach. But I like the simplicity of just stashing it under my rash guard. I believe mine was made by MOOCY.

Hello do you have some détails on the Armstrong gear the ridee was using ?
Laitham will remember but it was one of the bigger HA foils. Pumps nicely. Just gets a little exciting on a breaking wave.
Nice! How long does it take to paddle back out? You can cover a lot of ground while up on foil... when paddling, not so much. Does it blow toward you?
Really up to you how far you want to paddle. I have been dropping just outside of where I would chip in while prone foiling. It does slowly drift down wind so you can shorten the paddle some if you go downwind while riding but the paddle is not bad and I don’t mind it.
I should add that I am still struggling with my pop up so I get a ton of satisfaction from being able to tow in and just surf without the wing. Looking forward to getting prone foiling locked in but this is great practice in the meantime.
🤓Not ready to drop my $2K Freewing Pro in the water and ride away giggling, but I do have some very thrashed wings that would make a nice substitute on days like this. I need to get rid of a few of them. Maybe I will try it without the anchor. Toss the wing and let the chips fall where they may. Also FUGAZI. 🤘
In low wind it’s definitely low drama. The wing barely moves. I drop it outside the surf zone so it’s in mellow conditions waiting for me when I paddle back to it.

As someone being interested in trying this, I appreciate the takeoffs and connections and even waves that aren't as good ,so I understand more how and when you should try to catch waves.
Thank you, as someone who is still working on making my pop up more consistent I felt it was valuable to include each takeoff. Always glad to hear it is helping others.

I so far have not had success with active track, no worries though as I prefer to fly myself when filming friends. Would be nice if I could film myself though.

Surfing is 95% paddling and 5% surfing. I do both and love them!

Hi Niel! Impressive surfing, you are lucky to have those waves. I wanted to ask you what is your opinion of the peak 13mts, is it really possible to start in 4/5 knots?
I think 5 is the low end limit for the 13m. 5 gusting to 7 is definitely more fun. Kiting in that low of wind is fun but it’s definitely not as care free as 10+. If draw out at jibe too long and slack the lines you very likely will be swimming. But it’s a great insurance policy to ride when everyone else is on the beach. Would be curious to compare with a 10m soul though. Might be more fun in the light wind as you could actually do some jumps. peaks are not for jumping.

Can you tell me exactly where that rock you were jumping off of at Lake Nantahala is. My kids would love that. We have a cabin just North of there. We would be coming in on Wayah Rd.
