I spent a year backpacking around Australia and drank a lot of VB. haven’t had one in years. Will look out for Crown over here in the UK for a try. Cheers 🍻
Excellent video and blind tasting. In my opinion you've settled the argument! Well done Hef. Cheers! 🍺
Interesting Vid for sure mate
How are you? I hope you are well. I watch your content regularly. Your content is beautiful and your thumbnail is very beautiful. I think your videos deserve more views. Do you want to know why your videos are not getting views? I analyzed your videos and saw that your videos are not getting any SEO. I would like to give you some tips on how you can improve SEO. How can we connect?" Thank you
Yeah nah
It’s the same beer, you are off your head cobber 🤣
Correct. 100% same beer 😂 Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 good comparison vid mate
Can't get Crown here in the UK currently (out of stock) but we can get tins of VB. Have to give it a try again as I haven't tried it since about 1981! I can now get: Pure Blonde and EMU Export from my supplier over here but both seem a little weak at 4.2%. Are either worth me ordering a couple of each to try? Both are around the equivalent of AU$ 7.50 a tin, which seems a little high when I can get Coopers Sparkling Ale or Hahn Super Dry for nearly half the price.
VB isn’t the best beer in the world but it is an excellent example of a macro Australian lager, brewed with Pride of Ringwood hops and cane sugar as the adjunct. I haven’t had Pure Blonde for years. It’s a dry, low carb and rather bland tasting lager. We don’t see Emu very often in NSW (it’s from Western Australia) but I have seen it pop up a few times. It’s the poor cousin to Swan Draught, in my opinion. So to answer your question, probably not. Cheers!
Cheers hef top review enjoy have a good one frosty🎉😅
Thanks, mate. Cheers!
I heard one of the southern beers - maybe Tooheys Export Draught? How do we know there aren't 4 pieces of paper? 🍻
@@Quasnob Unlikely as Toohey’s is Lion and Crown is CUB. Foster’s is another rumour that I’ve heard. I guess you’ll just have to trust me. After all, I am a beer reviewer on RUclips 😉😂 Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 actually CB (?) was the "southern beer" I was thinking of maybe? Anyway I like Crown. Always ordered it when boss was paying! Have a great weekend :) Yes I have a non-educated beer pallet but have learned a lot from you! 🍻
@ Free beer is great beer. Hope you ordered plenty. Cheers!
Heard about crown Larger VB in a different bottle but awesome review and keep up the awesome work
@@RogwerThPirate Yep, a common rumour. They’re definitely different beers though. Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 i figured it out by the review you did and your welcome
Such a good video mate! You know I have always really really loved James Boags but always forget about it! When you say it’s European in style then this makes so much sense as to why I love it. So true mate! I love a crownie. Yes 100% it’s not VB in a different bottle! Can’t wait to try cascades! Cheers Hef! Keep up the cracking work!
Boag’s and Hahn Premium were both nice European style lagers back in the day. Unfortunately Boag’s hasn’t been the same since they changed the recipe and dropped the ABV. Having said that, it’s still a decent beer and I can see why you like it. Cheers!
Good vid mate, probably no surprise on the result but what’s doing on the price of the cascade! Is there gold flakes in it?? 😂
It’s a shame because it’s a pretty decent beer. I’d be much more inclined to buy the occasional 6 pack if it was priced appropriately. As it stands, I just can’t see it lasting at that price. Cheers!
Well done picking out the correct beers. $90 for a case of Cascade is definitely pricey. I'd love to see you do a blind tasting of VB, Foster's and Crown Lager. Cheers🍺
Thanks, mate. I’ve actually already filmed a blind tasting of VB and Crown. Hopefully it will be uploaded in the next week or so. VB vs Foster’s would be another good one. Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 Fantastic. Looking forward to it!
In my research of boags premium while doing my review, I found out this. Malts- Pale lager and roasted. Hops- Superpride and hop extract. Yeast- Australian lager Additions- cane sugar. But in the light versions of both they were using a noble hop???? Well done on picking🍻🍻
Correction boags used the same ingredients for the light and full strength.🍻
Great info. Thanks, mate.
@@kcsbeerroom Makes sense. Cheers!
Just started watching - Boag's I reckon.
Yes! Although I only really have these types of beers if I go out for Thai or something. I heard crown was the export version of XXXX (?) It's OK but.
@@Quasnob There are so many different rumours about Crownies. I’ve already filmed a blind tasting of VB vs Crown that should be up in the next week or so. Cheers!
@@Quasnob Unfortunately Boag’s has suffered since they changed the recipe, in my opinion. Back in the day I would have gone Cascade, Boag’s, Crownies, Hahn Premium in that order.
Out of those 3 i'd personally go the boags, could be the nostalgia speaking though. Dont mind crowns. Good video mate
Back in the day I would have gone Cascade, Boag’s, Crown and then Hahn Premium. Unfortunately Boag’s has suffered since they changed the recipe. Cheers!
Awesome comparison video and fair call to and keep up the awesome work
Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 your welcome
Excellent Review mate , very interesting
I recommend the Gran Riserva if you ever come across it. Cheers!
Another great review mate. It's the quiet lurking in the back row that has me liking these breweries so much🍻
Absolutely. Just great beer. Can’t beat it. Cheers!
Nice one mate, cheers🍻
@@kcsbeerroom Cheers!
I don't know how I missed this one. Great video. I correctly guessed the score you ended up giving it. Cheers Hef! 🍺🍻
Well done! I think it’s a better beer after 3 months in the bottle (what beer isn’t?) and am enjoying it more than when I filmed the tasting. Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 👍🍺
This sounds like a great beer to enjoy after dinner as a treat. Like you say a great dessert beer. Thanks for sharing. Cheers mate
Definitely, although I thoroughly enjoyed it with dinner. Cheers!
Great videi Hef. Full of great infomation and enthusiasm . Im back on dairy after my shortish term of disasociation with the dairy companies. Im getting into adjuncts a bit at the moment and just about to pitch the yeast after my brew day. Cheers mate
Good to hear. Hope the brew day went well. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers!
Sounds interesting Stout there and sounds good to drink . Awesome review and keep up the awesome work
It was delicious. Cheers!
After watching your video, I am now imagining lying on a bearskin rug with misses Beerroom in front of an open fireplace sipping on a Gran Riserva. Cheers mate.
Ha ha love it. Cheers!
Great review. Excellent job picking out the correct one. As far as I can tell, the Gran Riserva Puro Malto is not available in the US. And after watching this, I wish it was. Very cool bottle too. Cheers mate! 🍺
Thanks, mate. Yes, that is a shame. It is a nice lager. Cheers!
Awesome video hef! Very detailed! I’m actually heading to a bottle shop today that usually has Italian brewed Peroni in anticipation to buy some as I love them so much, I’ll pick one up for you if you do an Italian brewed Vs Australian brewed blind taste and comparison!
Thanks, mate. Absolutely I will. Cheers!
We get both of those in the UK, the ordinary one at least is also brewed here under licence. These days it's owned by Asahi Breweries who don't seem to be too bad when it comes to closing breweries? A bit late unfortunately as AB InBev destroyed it here before. Something of interest, Aldi sell their own clones of both of those here, though who brews them this week, nobody knows??? Aldi sell the standard clone for £1.49 ($2.93 Aus). It is surprisingly still 5% ABV and also in 500ml bottles.
Wow, great information about Aldi. I read a couple of articles and opinion seems somewhat divided, with some claiming that both beers are uncannily similar while others state that there are marked differences. Still, as with most things at Aldi, you can’t argue with the price. Cheers!
The GR releases are a delicious beer. Cheers😎😊
I’m keen to try the double malt and Vienna lager varieties now 👍🏻 Cheers!
Not an ideal bottle to stand around at a BBQ or somewhere with.
It doesn’t even fit into a stubby cooler!
sounds alright and well describe there and got full body taste there to . Awesome review and keep up the awesome work
The Gran Riserva does for sure. More expensive but a much better beer. Cheers!
$90 for a case of 4.5% “premium” beer! Wow!!! Hef your beer history knowledge is delightful and interesting to listen to mate! Loved all that 90’s beer chat! What I’d give to try the 90’s version!
@@BeersWithBoydo Thanks, mate. I’m glad you enjoy it. I turned 18 in 1998 and my memories from those years are surprisingly vivid 😉😂 Cheers!
Top review Hef. I agree 💯 with you on this beet
@@GezBeerReviews Cheers!
$90!!! Ya dreaming!!!
More expensive than jousting sticks!
Great review mate. I'm pretty sure I've had the original cascade a long time ago on a visit to Oz. $90 sounds pretty steep. Is a case 24 bottles? Still sounds like a great drop. Hopefully they can tweak the price point. Cheers 🍻
Yep, 24 bottles. Unfortunately, like I said in the review, I can’t see it lasting at that price. I’ve got a soft spot for Cascade so I hope they can tweak it. Cheers!
$90 a carton!!! They're delusional beyond belief. It'd have to be the crack-cocaine of Aussie Lager for that.
Spot on, mate. It is a very decent beer though, and you probably guessed from the review but I do have a soft spot for Cascade so I hope it sticks around (albeit at a much cheaper price). Cheers!
Excellent review mate. It's great that you were able to stumble upon this gem. It's even better in the can.
That bottle shop is an absolute gold mine. Yep, I can only imagine. Cheers!
My comment didnt go through. Ill try again. Haha maaaate... the re dreaming lol. Ive had that back in the day here and enjoyed it. First time i think i actually got a taste of hops. Cheers mate, great review and infomation.
@@finnroohomebrewing Great to hear that you were able to get Cascade Premium across the ditch. It was a great beer. Cheers!
Being that Summer hops have been discontinued for some time now, my hazardous guess would be Eclipse or Vic Secret.
Ah, great info. Thanks, mate. I’m leaning towards Eclipse but would be interested to know what you think if you try it. Cheers!
I enjoyed this beer and paid about $25 for a six pack, but there’s no way I’d pay $90 for a case. 🍻🍻
@@kcsbeerroom That’s not too bad for a premium lager. Cheers!
If I see it over in the UK I'll probably get one, just to try, although surely $90 (Aus) is a misprint, especially for a beer of such little strength, hardly a "Premium Lager"? I have had a couple of their beers before, back in the early eighties when imported Austalian beers were more popular. These days we have to pay through the nose for most better quality imported Australian beers and those that aren't imported are the disgusting, weak imitations that are brewed here under licence. Ironically Australian beers over here tends to be cheaper than in Australia, presumably that's down to how much your alcohol is taxed?
@@johnp8131 The current price I’m seeing is actually $96! Yes, the taxes are ridiculous. Aussie beers are cheaper in NZ than in Australia. It’s just absurd. Like breweries allowing their beers to be bastardised (euphemism - a more accurate term would be destroyed) through licensing deals rather than having them exported to international markets. Cheers!
sounds alright there and really good. Awesome review and keep up the awesome work
Yeah it’s pretty good but overpriced, unfortunately. Cheers!
Great review. Dunkel usually sits on my palate the way Brown Ales do, sort of middle of the road in terms of flavor. But again, that's just me. But I'm not very familiar with Dunkel Weissbier at all. Definitely a style I'd like to try. Cheers mate! 🍺🍻
Thanks, mate. I like dunkels but prefer schwarzbiers. I get the impression you’re the same? Btw, I’ve been watching LJ’s EZ extract videos and I’m keen to give them a go this year, especially your schwarzbier. Cheers!
@@hefsbeerreviews4127 Oh yes. I much prefer Schwarzbiers. Something about their flavor, especially American versions, sets them apart from Dunkels. I'd be honored to have you brew my recipe! Cheers mate!
Such a detailed review mate! Sounds like I need to make a trip out to Phillip St Parramatta haha! I don’t believe I have ever seen this one in a bottlo, I do love the style, I’ve only ever had the Weihenstephaner one and it blew my mind the first time I tried it! I’ll never forget that moment! Cheers hef!
It was a gold mine out there. It’s definitely worth the trip. There’s plenty of good food options if you want to make a day of it too. Cheers!
I think you gave it a fair score.
I wish we got more of this style in Australia. Cheers!
Sounds alright there and not bad and awesome review and keep up the mighty work
@@RogwerThPirate It’s a solid German dark beer. Definitely worth a try if that’s your thing. Cheers!
