Will This Diesel Heater Keep Me From Freezing Overnight?
It's been long overdue to put the Cummins Swapped Land Cruiser through its paces and take it out for a night of winter camping. I've tried a few different heating setups being a hot stove tent and buddy heater, but to me, this diesel heater is the best option. It was able to provide hot air for 10 hours!

Installing A Long Range America Winch Bumper - 2 Inch Lift Springs & A New Driveshaft
Просмотров 80614 часов назад
Build is coming along nicely! In this video I go over how to mount the Long Range America front bumper designed in Australia. I also had my old driveshaft retubed the correct length for the Cummins swap. The 30 year old front coil springs weren't liking the added weight of bot the Cummins and the bumper/winch combo so I also upgraded to a set of ironman 4x4 springs. Link for Long Range America ...

Are Hot Tents Worth It? Solo Winter Camping In Snow & Rain [ 4x4, Off Road, Overlanding ]
Very funny video. I have been camping for years in a hot tent and haven't had any issues. I built my own wood stove (i did actually 3 of them) for about $80 worth of materials for the reason that i simply refused to pay $600 for a small sized stove that devours wood in a matter of minutes. Plus i added internal buffle sheet inside something which 90% of the stoves out there simply don't have. This not only saves wood but makes it burn much longer with hot smoldering peices laying inside up intil the morning when i wake up they're still smoldering. Plus you can insulate your tent. There are many insulation methods available. I think the problem with modern "hot tent camping" is that it became too cosplay with those mini-stoves and paper-thin tents. Of course you gonna get cold in them in a matter of minutes! If you are serious about winter camping either build your own stove like i did or at least invest into an insulated doublewalled tent which are expensive I did both on my own and it cost me just a small fraction of what people normally pay for "cosplay" hot tenting. Just my opinion.
You paid 600 for that??? Damn fool.
🤣
Careful with those wheel spacers. My truck had some cheapo Amazon ones with good reviews and I snapped almost every lug. I was riding on 35s. Get some bora. But once cry once
Yeah that’s always in the back of my head. Will be getting wheels with the correct offset soon
Yea sounds like you need a furnace. Mabey camping ain’t for you
$600 dollars for Amazon crap? You're a fool
Great video. Are you interested in trying ATOTO X10 car audio? CB6 wireless car smart box is also a good choice. In addition, we also produce subwoofers, speakers, amplifiers and other accessories, we believe you will like them. 😉
I appreciate you reaching out, but I think I’m good! Thank you
the tires are dead 🙉
They’re alllllmost dead 😂 need beadlocks
@ What kind of bedlock, why do I have a pressure of 2.1 bar and I can't solve it 🙉😂
@ method 105 beadlocks!
Are they snow tires?
@@hlyangel1NO!
please be careful with ventilation and carbon monoxide even with the diesel heater. Can never be too safe !
Yes! I just happen to forget my detector but will keep it with me next time!
Idiot thought camping is like sleeping in hotel or something
🤣
you need a real Stove like Four dog or camp. those little ones are for as you said a little comfort. also a larger tent and a propelry cut out stove jack will go a long ways.
Im sorry, but was that a damn saw for metal that you used on the wood?
Nah it was a foldable saw for wood
How many decibels is it in the cab? I own a 12v 2500 and it has zero sound insulation but is tolerable.
Was your steering wheel off center after? I just installed mine and my steering wheel is more towards 3 a clock now
It was! I just took the steering wheel off and readjusted it
Need to aor way more down 😂
Yup🤣 I don’t have a spare and didn’t want to slip a bead. Getting beadlocks soon!
You could get the fire hot and add charcoal on top
You don’t need wheel spacers to run 37’s on an 80. You only need to trim a tiny part of the rear fender flares. And you need the appropriate springs and shocks. Look it up on ih8mud.
Step on the brakes slightly
Pro tips
Should have had an extra pair of gloves. It is the Rockies.
10 miles? According to the map, you’ve only gone about 4 inches.
lol 😂 this guy
Youse compressed sawdust bricks they last forever. Ive used them in mine they last.
i mean this is kinda just how it works with a wood stove in general. jam it full before bed and if youre lucky the embers will keep it above 0 til you wake up in your -50 rated sleeping bag
Coal chunks added in with the wood burns for hours.
Well, yes and no - depends on the stove you use. If you use something little bit bigger and are in an area with hardwood, you only have to put stuff into it like every 3~4 hours. In the military you take turns.
Seems silly to depend on a fire for all night heat, I can see the sense in warming up something that will retain heat in your insulated sleeping bag. But keeping the tent hot doesn't really seem sensible unless you have a large enough group to sleep in shifts.
Carbs just dont break. I mean how if you take good care of it. unbelievable how cheap new cars are being build. Dead after 200.000miles
Agreed! Too many electronics in new vehicles making them hard to work on/unreliable
@Austin_SaintOnge and the quality of every part has gone back so far. So sad. I wanna see a modern car that build to be reliabel. Iam 100% sure we COULD build a car that goes 5 milion miles. So sad to se what the world develops into
@ haha probably right?
Modern things are to small the people of the past were smarter to design things bigger
$600.00???
Not a concern for men over 50.
Haha yup I’ll be there soon 😂
I have my CCD heater bolted to the floor between the front seats. It's kept me plenty warm all the way down to -40. Been using it for years now, runs MUCH more reliably than an Espar or a Webasto.
That’s a cool idea to have it bolted in the console area! They’re so efficient!
What changed from the first run? More speed?
Yeah I backed up a little bit further. I only was at 15 psi too.
turbo diesel sounds so secksy
very bad tires for winter and snow 😊
They’re not iroks for sure, but they are snow rated 😆
I know that pucker factor cranking a very cold diesel far from civilization. Why is a P-pump worse than rotary?
Yeah it’s definitely nerve racking! Some Ppump’s start up a little easier than others, but my last one took forever to fire when around 0 degrees. I don’t know the exact reason ve pumps fire easier but I do notice the difference
Hello, I see that the car is on AT tires, I'm at a complete loss to understand how you drive it on snow on asphalt roads? That's uncontrollable after all. either you have a small lift or the 37" tires are too big.
It’s just a 2 inch lift in the front and stick springs in the rear. Yeah the tires also don’t have full tread, but I got them for a good price. These k02s are snow rated and perform pretty well in the snow, I only had them down to about 15 psi
Yokohama Iceguard 075 😊
I may end up having a dedicated snow season wheel tire setup that I’ll look into these for!
@ 👍
🙉🙉🙉
run mine for 11 hours and it used 2.5L of fuel and 10 amps of power on low i had to have a door open a bit in the roof top tent so i didn't cook think it was about -5 degrees coleus / 23f
Yeah it’s really impressive how efficient they are right?!?
The problem I had is my pipes was leaking smoke tar, and the stove to brand new seems to be leaking smoke. So it's so smokey last time in my tent . Planning a trip in Feb. I might just sleep in a separate tent ughhh
Will you be beefing up your axles? Dirtlife Nate did a really good video on it
I’ve followed that whole build of his! I like what he did with his, but haven’t found the need for rcvs. I even had 40s on my last Cummins swap with stock axles. I think I may truss the front axle housing and the birfs like he did
I agree as a country boy who wont fall for this aesthetic trap anyway lol. Then you will go places you wouldn't have other wise and be in a bad situation ill prepared thinking youll be fine til it drops 10 degrees more than you thought. For $600 couldnt you just get a winter tent and cold antarctic suit? Lol someones getting rich om that little metal box
lol these were my thoughts exactly! I’ve converted to a diesel heater and am not looking back!
We used coal in the army
I installed my diesel heater into the spare tire area in the rear of my Q7 overland build. I even managed to get a 2L fuel tank in there. I have yet to use it but hopefully in about a week and a half I'll take it up to Donner Pass and get cold 🤞🏼
Very nice q7s look pretty sleek! Awesome you were able to mount it in the spare tire location
@Austin_SaintOnge yeah actually I haven't tucked up on the driver side and I actually have my second battery where the spare tire would be along with all my recovery gear and inflation gear and whatever else I need to throw in there
@Austin_SaintOnge I was able to route the ducting up the side panel and I put a exit vent coming out the side panel that I can actually adapt a second hose on to if I want to lengthen it
@ nice! Yeah I’m slowly starting to get everything tucked away
@ oh that’s smart!
Yeah, mate - they're called 'gimmicks for suckers'.
🤣precisely
By the way, those are awesome! You need to go big tho 12×14 or 14x16... we set that up on the ice every winter.. For the city peoples that are too refined to feel cold in the morning, there's generator that you can set up on a timer with a heat pump instead of the wood stove so you warm when you unzip your sleeping bag... Even a house is cold in the morning before you lit the fireplace... peoples lived like that for 1000s of years...
What are you talking about... have you ever camp at -30 in a regular tent see of its any better in the morning??
Thought I heard a chambered muffler in the snow vid. Turbo engines should really have straight through mufflers.
Yup it’s chambered. It should be a straight through, that’s just how this one was designed in order to fit in the Land Cruiser
What a glamor camper lmao, did you expect an auto-stoking fire that loads itself with more wood?.
Any plans to get a Campteq on that 80?
Thank you so much! I was trying to remember the name of that company! $8500 is steep but that’s definitely the route I want to go eventually! You’re awesome!
Just use pine cones the have more btu and you can carry a lot in a 5 gallon bucket and you don’t have to tent to the fire a lot if you fill it up
yep.. that's one sick LC80
Hey thanks man!
