Beautiful home, not excited about the coffee bar in front foyer. Also, I would not display spice collection above fireplace, of course, that can be removed when new homeowner becomes the keeper. Otherwise a beautiful home. Classic and beautiful floors.

French Second Empire was 1850-1870, so 1880… And it was not this style at all !

I grew up in Germantown. There are many beautiful homes. You can even find the stone step at the curbs that were used when existing a carriage.

Beautiful Victorian but someone ruined just about ALL the woodwork on the first floor by PAINTING it. The woodwork on the first floor of a Victorian was never painted so the owner could show off all of the EXPENSIVE and DIFFERENT types of wood that they could afford. Now the second floor and above was a different matter. That woodwork was not the high-dollar wood. It was usually cheaper wood - something like pine - that didn't cost nearly as much as the wood on the first floor. The first floor's many different types of expensive wood was to "wow" and "impress" the visitors and guests. Only family and staff were on the second floor and above so that woodwork wasn't meant to impress anybody.

How absolutely lovely to see that the original woodwork has NOT been painted. That would be the main selling point for this house.

It's really a shame that someone went overboard painting just about ALL of the woodwork on the first floor. The FIRST floor's woodwork was NEVER painted but shellacked to bring out the BEAUTY of the EXPENSIVE oak/walnut/mahogany woodwork showing how well-off the owner was. The second floor and anything above would be painted because the woodwork was less expensive. It really looked like someone got one heck of a deal on 10-20 gallons of that green paint that was splashed ALL over. Other than that, the house looked pretty good for its age.

Overdone. Looks like a place for retired people looking for an overpriced B&B. Already dated ceiling colors and effect. Mixing new Mission styles and Victorian? Gimme a break. Boxwood looks it was lifted from Williamsburg, VA. Definitely some chance of correcting things but at some cost. B&B idiots won't notice, go ahead and rent it out.

They are PERIOD. As in, 19th century. The mixing of details is original to the house and was common in that era.

Second Empire Victorian ? Second Empire is French, Victorian is English. And the French Second Empire lasted much less than Victoria’s reign. Do not mix up everything.

The racking pediment was added to the portico probably when they put the racking roof line after removing the hipped federal roofline

This is a very wonderful find, also would be a project to dazzle more than the pasty white walls, beautiful wallpapers, deeper shades of color paint like Carmel, teal, coffee, burgundy, and goldenrod. Medallions above the chandeliers, the trim stripped revealing wood to stain or lightly polish. Draperies in different areas, deeper colored runway rugs, upright piano, harp, harpsichord, and bass violin 🎻, wainscoting, either wood or painted two tone. The ceilings need better murals, not heavy bordering. Although perfect in so many ways, but adding more charm and elements of esthetics. The garden in back is fabulous! What a wonderful place for doing some entertaining also.👍💗🏆✅❣️

The floors, ceilings and use of color in this house makes it so much more than many similar houses in Pittsburgh. The King Estate is for sale now.
