In his early 90s form, hell no. BUT if you let him train with modern gyms and modern training regime he’d be a world champion still.

They were champions drawn from a pool of maybe 5,000 fighters. The champions today are drawn from a pool of 5 million fighters all training MMA. Its like saying the Champions of Estonia could compete with the champions of USA. Possible but unlikely.

What is with this insistence by Joe Rogan that "1 or 2 kicks to the calf and you're done"? We see him on commentary so many times, "That leg is toast, he can't even put weight on it" .....and then the fighter goes on to continue the fight for another 10 minutes with no issue. It's like he has some kind of leg kick PTSD so he always exaggerates how deadly they are.

Gotta disagree about hoyce. He left because the sport started evolving and the wrestlers were learning submissions fast. His record after the first few UFC wasn't great.

When Ken signed with WWF his mma record was 23-5. He had beaten Bas Rutten, Dan Severn, Funaki, Simon and he was the first person to beat up Gracie and not get submitted. He is one of the early goats of the sport

Martial arts did leg kicks for thousands of years. Low kicks were always taught for self-defense. I don’t understand Rogan’s take on things. In University martial arts class in the 70’s at Berkeley, Martial Arts were taught in a big room that was wall to wall mats for throwing and grabbling. We did strikes, throws, and wrestled. We were taught all kinds of low kicks.

It's a very common symptom that is just human nature. Man is arrogant, man can read and learn of tradition but never internalize it. Man is trapped by his senses. Nothing he perceives ever existed.

"Royce is a champion" and "everyone's a black belt in jiu jitsu today" ... he's a fraud who cherrypicked opposition, rules and the whole damn event and yeah no shit Rogan if you keep handing out black belts in bjj for free every time a UFC fighter with a solid wrestling background becomes a champion, no wonder everyone's "a black belt in jiu jitsu" ...
