Here is a set of Black Cat Guitar pickups. The bridge is a PAF style 8k and really articulate with a nice thump to the bottom end as well. The neck was a special request from me. I wanted it to be like a single coil so he would it to 5.8k. Chris aged the covers to match the guitar as well. I couldn’t be happier with the set. You can contact Chris at blackcatguitar.com.

You like the ga-sc64 more than the original Jensen? I have a ‘73 Deluxe Reverb with Utah and thinking about ordering the alessandro.
@@MichaelBartlettGuitar I got it so that I can preserve the original speaker but I actually do like it better. It’s very clear but not harsh at all. I do recommend it.
Nice man. I used to ha e the bbq bucker in a Gibson LP Studio lite and it wad killer. ❤
What color is that? I like it. I don't see that color on their website. I don't think it's the purple, if it is is much darker in your video than on their site.
@@johns.8961 It’s the black one.
@@chrislestermusic There's metallic in the black paint? Flip flop? Has to be because it looks like a very dark cherry, I really like that color. In fact I think I may to buy one. I just picked up a Firefly FFMN too.
@@johns.8961 It looks like it's the reflection of his wall.
@@davidshort8226 Yeah. I watched it again and it's the wall. Too bad, it would have been a great color.
That high E string seems awfully close to the edge of frets?
@@BlazonStone I think it’s just the camera angle because it isn’t. It’s normal spacing. 😁
Sounds incredible! Love that color too.
Great playing and tones!! A couple of the parts caster guitars I have use the GFS bodies and are really light. I am curious - how heavy is that guitar?
@@ClemenziMusic The tele I used to play with you is a GFS parts and it’s made of Paulownia and super light. 5 pounds. This guitar is made of alder so it’s a little heavier. Probably around 8 pounds, I bet. Killer guitar for $309.
@@chrislestermusic Cool! Thanks! I was hoping it was maybe in the same weight category as our parts guitars. I think Olivia would like some of the finished, but at 8 pounds, it is about 3 pounds too heavy for his little frame!
Great playing & tones! Enjoy the holidays 👍
@@eddaymusic Thank you Ed! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season as well.
Did you stick with the Antiquity Chris ? Just fitted one in my LP .. Still undecided. Read dropping a A5 mag in there gives a great BG tone. Those de-gauzed A2 are a little weak I feel. Using JTM45 and Brown 6G3
@@Bigsbeee I put in some Black Cat pickups by a builder out of Massachusetts. I have them in this Les Paul and my Goldtop. Believe it or not the bridge pickup on this one is 5.6k but gets that Billy G tone. At least I think it does. There is a video where I’m comparing both Les Pauls and you can hear the pickups in that. I still love the Antiquity though.
What are your pick-up heights like ?
@@tzmathew I have the bridge pickup very close to the strings. The middle pickup is backed off a little more than the bridge. The neck pickup is flush with the pickguard. :)
@ I thought your neck pick-up sounded amazing. Was wondering how low you’ve kept them. Have to lower mine and try. I have pure vintage in my neck and middle now. City limits bridge. I think I’m finally happy with my strat pickups wise.
Awesome!👍👍🎼🎵🎶🎸
The right way of recording guitar audio
Man, that is seriously great.
@@BlindTom61 Thank you!
My bbq is a neck pup with an f spacing. Go figure that one out…..
Sounds lovely! what's the neck profile like on your LP?
@@hoiboi_official Hard to describe but it’s probably most like a ‘59. It’s not beefy like a ‘58. Not too slim either. One of the most comfortable necks I have played. Feels like home.
@@chrislestermusic thanks for the info. It's a gorgeous looking guitar!
I NEVER thought I'd say this but that aged plain top is so much better looking than any flametop that I've seen. Really nice playing and great tone.
Thank you very much!!!
That thing 100% sounds like a 59. Great job.
@@blakespurlock5322 Wow! Thank you.
I have city limits but i want replace it with this , is this humming loud like the city limits or snce thi is not overwound the hum will be miniml??
The hum isn’t bad but some rooms make it worse than others. The BOSS NS1X Noise Suppressor fixes that. Then you don’t have to worry about it. I think any true single coil will make hum in certain environments so a noise suppressor really helps.
Hi should i buy this guitar used you 450 dollars in late 2024 ? Or should i buy a Ltd Ec 1000 duncan for 700 dollars used ?
If it were me I’d buy the PRS. The LTD is great too. I think if you’re comparing the two, the PRS at the price is a much better value. I have had 4 PRS and still have 3 and they stay in tune better than my Gibsons. Great design and stability. Just my two cents. You can’t lose with either one though. 😁
@@chrislestermusic thanks brother i really appreciate your opinion 😃
@@nzxtff1020 Anytime. Let me know how it goes!
@@chrislestermusic somebody offered me a prs tremonti se for 600 dollars I am a bit confused
I can hear some Billy G tone in there.
Thanks!!! That’s a huge compliment.
All it does is play lead riffs!!?
This tone is what I’m after! IT SOUNDS SO GOOD! Can you tell me how you use the drive pedals? For example what do you use for light gain and how you stack from there? Obviously this video is a bit old but if you feel there are better pedals that you use today that accomplish this tone, please let me know. Thanks, as always!
The Deluxe Reverb is set pretty clean. I have the drive on the Royal Blue set to around noon or straight up. A Nobles OD will get you in the ballpark of that tone too. It’s the sum of all the parts though between the amp, pedals and guitar. What are you using for gear?
@@chrislestermusic thanks so much. Previously I was an hx stomp, morning glory, and belle star guy. I love amps but where I play digital is just easier. Considering now a tonex 1, hx stomp xl and contemplating drive pedals. I made a custom jazz master that gets tones close to the reverend but the reverend kinda twangs a bit more, which I kinda want.
@@jonathanmgurneyI’m just seeing this comment now. How is your tone quest going?
Sounds very hard rock
Fantastic sound (& looks to go with it)🤘🏼
Thank you!
How do you stay in tune so well?
It’s all in the setup of the bridge and springs. I had it setup as “dive only”. As long as nothing is getting in the way of its return to its starting position (like a badly cut nut or issues at the bridge) then tuning is really stable. 😁
This strato + amp or whatever you use sound really amazing. Absolute amazing.
Wow! Thank you VERY much! It was the strat into my Bogner Atma into the 1x12 Bogner cab. Plus my pedalboard.
@@chrislestermusic It reminds me a lot the sound of Chris Impelliteri.
They sound pretty nice in my opinion!! Would be nice to hear them in clean tones :)
Imho edge of breakup like this clip is where they show their true character i found most quality Strat pickups sound very similar clean.
I noticed two things: the neck pickup's screws are screwed out. Does it make any difference in the tone? And second: your jumper does match the guitar in its age. ;D
It does make a difference but it’s minimal. It wasn’t worth it and the pickup sounds better with them in.
@@chrislestermusic Thanks!! 🙂
............not great.
Thanks for that gem of wisdom.
How douche of you
@@chrislestermusic Actually, they do sound great, and I just ordered a set. Of course your playing is a big part of it, but I dig that ancient tone. Do you recall what amp you were running thru?

@@chrislestermusic thank you! You've convinced me to buy the pickups :)
I have an '89 Standard with the Lawrence originals, and I happen to love them, but they don't sound like this.
I bet they sound great.
@@chrislestermusic I think probably everyone who plays hears their tone from a completely different perspective. Grass is greener sort of thing.
this guitar wasnt stock when you made this vid?? thanks great playing
Actually it was stock here. I have since changed out the bridge pickup and put and new pickguard on it and removed the covers on the middle and neck pickups.
@@chrislestermusic u play and sound great! would u recommend this guitar? or a good tele by fender les paul etc? Thanks for the help
@@chrislestermusic i play a princeton was always worried the korina body would be thin sounding:)
Are these good pickups ? How would you compare them to others you've tried ?
I love them. They have a lot of clarity but still have bottom end and punch. They are more vintage style so not hot output. I prefer them to most everything else I have tried (aside from Suhr ML) and they are cheap. $100 for a whole set.
@@chrislestermusic cool thanks a lot. I have city limits set in my strat which are overwound and run hotter... I wanted more vintage voiced pickups. Also considered the classic blues and surfari sets but most likely going to go ahead with these. Might keep the city limits bridge pickup as it sounds really nice with overdrive and I barely use the bridge for cleans.
@@tzmathew The city limits bridge pickup is the best bridge pickup ever wound !
You just hear them. They sound absolutely amazing. What else do you need to know :)
@@predigr I just put s set of PVs in a Japanese 62 reissue strat and they sound fantastic !

I think it’s a Classic actually.
What pickups are in it?
@@brettdiazThey are Black Cat pickups. Sorry. I just saw your comment.
Like the Goldtop sound better, but Standard is more beautiful to me.
Plugged direct into amp no pedals ?
There are pedals. They weren’t always on though. I kicked them on here and there. I listed the pedals and the gear in the description. 😁
Whew - Both sound great 👍 Congrats on the new guitar!
Interesting 🤔 I have a 2016 Standard and a 2016 Traditional that would love those pickups 💯. I been looking at Throbaks but can't afford them. So these just may do the trick
Check them out! Chris makes great stuff. I have had a bunch of his pickups and they are all great.
You make it all look so easy! I know better 😂 Sounds fantastic!

Yes goldtop has it to my surprise
I’m going to have to agree. Rich Williams in Kansas played one. The epitome of honest players with an honest guitar. True story!
Fantastic!
Goldtop has more of certain liveliness to it.
I agree. I played 2 chords unplugged on that Goldtop before I bought it and could tell immediately it had that quality and snagged it.
Sounds great! See you at the cider mill in a bit. Cheers Chris!
Nice demo Chris!,, I also running the Ant's in my 50's LP, however, my neck pup is a little 'dark'... thus, I am considering swapping the A2 in the neck pup for an A4. Yours seems a little dark as well.. Does it sound that way in the room? Keep up the nice content!
Thank you! I’m a fan of the aAnts too. I don’t think the neck pickup sounds dark in the room. I have it wired split so it’s actually single coil.
