Using Magnets To Launch My Roller Coaster (LSM)
I have successfully built a linear synchronous motor for my model roller coaster. This system individually controls each coil and manipulates the magnetic field of the electromagnets to drive the car.

Siren's Curse at Cedar Point Recreation
Просмотров 6 тыс.Месяц назад
This is a working model of Cedar Point's upcoming roller coaster Siren's Curse. It features a working tilt drop, station gates, and a collision avoidance system for both trains (block zones). The model is operated by an arduino uno running FreeRTOS and custom tasks to monitor each zone. The train is equipped with magnets on the bottom to trigger hal effect sensors to give the position of the tr...

you should build wicked or cannibull (im bad a spelling) from lagoon in Utah
As a mechanical engineer I have no idea why making it more flexible works
What’s the electrocution sound?
Cool
Wow that's so cool!
Incredible build! 😍 the mechanics are so good and the color scheme is so clean
This is SO SICK
Sper les inversions, la descente avec le pivot, sa fait toute une différence avec des roulements à billes de céramiques 👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆
When dealing with smoking electronics, getting a cheap Thermal Camera on Amazon really helped me find where the overloaded components were.
Where do u buy the wire for the track?
This is awesome. Is it actually LSM or technically LIM?
This is a LSM, a LIM would have the coil on the car and would physically make contact with the track to run a current through it
This is so cool!
How did you install the brakes under the cars (and what did you use) and how did you install the copper on the track
Check out Tom Stanton’s video where he goes into more detail on how to do this
You can call it whatever you want but thats a barrel roll🤣
Announcement K'Nex will join Cedar Fairs and are Building Top Thrill 3 😁
0:06 😂
Hi, where did you fine the copper coils on Amazon? I've been trying to find the same and can't find them.
Out of curiosity do you paint some of your knex or are they 3D printed? Blue cross ties arent a normal colour as is yellow connectors that are blue, grey/purple corner slot connectors painted white
All parts are OEM knex. The blue cross ties are very rare, and the white 3d connectors are newish. The orange and black tubing is made by a 3rd party.
Your my hero! Like I knew this had to be possible somehow and you did it!! And it looks so realistic as far as the LSM and power supply area. The possibilities are endless. Now I’m feeling inspired to do this with full 3d printed track and recreate Velocicoaster.
is this expensive to do?
One box + coils cost about $125 in parts. I'm building 6...

Cool. I've subscribed.
This is awesome
For those wondering, this is copperhead strike, It’s at my home park carowinds and I know its copperhead when that jojo roll heads into a launch and into that unique element called the 360 degree loop.
That is one of the most utterly impressive things I’ve ever seen
Awesome work!! Never thought this would be possible in K'nex.
This changes the game so much 👍
Now what would be fun is to make it even smaller to work with CDX kits (Lightning Rod CDX recreation?)
Very Cool!
I'm so happy to see the first lsm knex coaster be a recreation of my favorite launch coaster
This was my dream 35 years ago
Kooooool🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful. Elegant and amazing engineering and science here. This braking system here and real life coasters is just perfect how its naturally uses resistance force all based on speed.
I'm guessing the name of this coaster is last ride given the climactic drop at the end! lol. ;)
Copper Head Strike! This is going to look so cool at the end!
Wow, liking it. Regarding your issue of the car stalling if it is going to slow, if the first coil has a third hall effect sensor in the middle, it can maybe detect the speed of the car and adjust the timing of the coil switching.
I’m not sure if this is based on a rollercoaster that’s in existence or what, but this dude deserves millions of views because what he has created is just brilliant! Bravo
The real version is being build as we speak right now at cedar point!😊
@ ah that’s fantastic! So you built this all from a coaster that isn’t operationally functional? Dude. You are some mega mind! Amazing talent. Well done. Can’t wait to see what you make next! Maybe smiler? It’s here in the uk. 😂😂😂
First off, awesome work! This is a really cool idea an implementation. Regarding your magic smoke issues, I'm questioning if the inductance (residual current) from the magnetic stators is back feeding into your Pico somehow over a shared ground causing a voltage spike. You should be able to solve this with some flyback diodes. If you want to get super fancy, you could use an H bridge and utilize PWM from your Pico to adjust launch power.
I suspect there's a ground loop and I think I know where. You're going to like the next video, let's just say great minds think alike.
Sick, absolutely 😷
Great job
have you ever considered using fuses on the output side of the PSU? Would be a good safety net for you
flight of fear recreation when
Wait! Isn't picos powered from 3.3v?
I'm using a daughter board that breaks out the io more conveniently. It accepts 6.5-12v
@michawl_ oh ,ok
This is awesome!!! Amazing work, sir!
Every single one of your barrel rolls are always so perfectly shaped and heartlined. Props!!
A multi launch Knex coaster using LSM's is mental. The days of rubber band launches are soon to be behind us
Looks insane dude nobody has even come close to you with this, if I were you to improve heartlining and shaping I'd use middle tubing as it really enhances the effect and looks more realistic
Oh I know this trick of the trade already, the middle tube is black. It blends in well with the cross ties on the final clips of the ride, so it's easy to miss.
@@michawl_ Oh thats it well done on the first ever knex LSM launch!
Super cool and Im pretty sure that the flag is mounted backwards like if you're standing facing it the stars should be on your left side
The flag is backwards! It's mostly decorative to the outside through the window it covers so it's correctly oriented to the rest of the world that sees it. I should re-evulate that decision as I post more RUclips videos
It's basically a rail gun setup
I’d be impressed with just the jojo roll! Amazing job you’ve done what every K’Nex builder has dreamed of!
