Wheels of Interest
Великобритания
Добавлен 25 янв 2024
We are Wheels of Interest; a family team comprising my son Isaac, my daughter Martha and me HowardT, fixing and restoring anything mechanical - if it has wheels then we are interested. We preserve mechanical history and have fun in the process.......
I am a career mechanic and service engineer, at ten years old I started dismantling the family lawn mower, moved to agricultural plant, buses and coaches, then forklift trucks, and have spent the best part of fifty years fixing machines.
Restoration - Renovation - Rejuvenation
We invite you to join us on our projects and exploits as we practice the three RRR's on vintage tractors, steam engines, classic cars and anything mechanical that catches our eye when we are out and about.
Disclaimer: Wheels of Interest videos are solely for entertainment, any viewers copying our processes and work methods do so entirely at their own risk - there's more than one way to skin a cat, we don't profess to always do it the right way!!

Jimny Ep 13: SRS Airbag Fixed - How Hard Can It Be?
Interesting to watch this, to see where Jimny's rust and just how bad the rust can be. Useful to watch first, so that you know what you are getting yourself into!
She sounds good! Great work!
@@AntiqueCarsandStuff Thanks 🙏
Good effort Howard! 👍🏻
Brilliant Howard. Looking forward to future videos on this lady.
Not seen one of these running in an awful long time!👍🏽
@@boboffredi8782 you can have a drive of her when she's rollin' Bob 👌

Nice one Howard 👍
Can you not just replace the rusted metal pipes and leave the plastic ones. Are they not plastic to reduce the need to replace them ?
@@MrBalbeggie Hi, the plastic pipe is heat shrunk on to the steel pipe which has a ridged end. The plastic will be destroyed if one was to try and remove it, I tried but couldn't do it, it's single use unfortunately. The only other thing is to maybe cut out the corroded steel and join it with flexi pipe but you have to be sure it seals and the MOT tester might question it, I wouldn't want to do that. Thanks for watching the video and your question 👍
@ thanks for the explanation. I did hear you say they are heat shrunk on. How easy is it to drop the tank if you have to replace the plastic pipes?
@MrBalbeggie ok, well, the tank could be a fight. All the bolts on mine sheared off! I was lucky enough to have the luxury of the floor cut out and could get to them from above, heated up the broken studs and screwed them out with a pair of grips (replaced with stainless). However, if coming from underneath I think there's enough flex on the pipes to lower the tank to get to the plastic coupling joints on the top into the pump unit. There is a knack to getting those off, so try and give yourself enough room to see them if you can. When the tank is off there is quite a lot of space to see the condition of the floor x member etc. Good luck Sir🤞
Yes mines going to sleep as well although last year I couldn't wait and taxed it February 😅
@@life_on_cars Paul, what's your process for laying up your XK?
@Wheels_of_Interest. very similar prep as you suggested, then mine will go in the garage. I need to get some of those plastic dust sheets that bodyshops use - I do own one cover which is over the MR2 now stored in my Mum's garage !
Real car love H 😊
Great sentiment at the end 🔧
Thank you for staying with it and watching to the end!
Well that’s a new one! Ha ha.
Hi Howard, it was good to meet you at Stotfold. First time I've been to a working rallly rather than a full blown Steam Rally and to be honest found it much more interesting with a great varierty of equipment and old skills on display. Long may they continue. (Been to five rallies this year and not appeared in any of the videos of them I've watched since!) Looking forward to the next big project....
Thanks for your support Bob, stay tuned..............
Working rally's are always more interesting for me, in some ways see one steam rally and you've seen 'em all......

Cracking job and very entertaining. All the bolts on my Rolls are BS thread 😊 but I've not found any wood stick plugs only plywood trim boards 😅
Thanks Paul! Don't think you're going to find any makeshift field repairs on the Rolls anytime soon! That's one hell of a car!!
I would have thought the trim boards would have been solid mahogany, RR now cutting corners then with cheap materials!?!
H loving your content keep it up mate
Thanks Martin, plenty more to come to keep you entertained!
Very satisfying Howard. Agricultural repairs eh?
Yep Laz, amusing too; who would have thought a stick would last that long.......?

Great vid👍 popped over to say it was nice to meet and chat with you on Sunday in the chucking rain. Might see you at tractor fest if you come this far up otherwise, hope to see you at Casterton next year 🙂
Thanks, Yes it was very wet, still a good event though👌 Casterton Vintage did well to get two videos out of it.
Quite right I have two green ones a 43 and a44
No horse?
@@gerardvriend729 no, wheels all over the way for me....... I watched some horse ploughing today at Stotfold and it looked like bloomin' hard work !!
Maybe cut the slam panel off, do localised repairs to it on the bench, and then replace the slam panel and weld up the cuts that you made to get it off.... If that's feasible depends on the state of rust on the slam panel.
@@johague9981 slam beyond saving, too far gone, fitted new one and repaired wheel arches behind it 👍
❤ awesome Beautiful 😊
When we first went 20 years ago my wife described it as feeling as if she was an extra on a film set while I wanted to emigrate there! 12 out of 10 absolutely brilliant. It's now down to 6 out of 10. Far too many people there whose primary interest is alcohol, even the Earls Court Show (which has been unbelievably brilliant in previous years) is half the size and turned into yet another bar. The bullet band stand was placed in an unbelivably poor position, we didn't see any of the 'roving' acts, the few aeroplanes that were there put on boring displays, (I know the weather didn't help) the mud was atrocious and the din from the 'Over the Road Show' was appauling. A once great spectacle a shadow of its former self, only the racing has remained undiminished.
Yes, as with all of these types of events hype can take over and, in a way, they are a victim of their own success. However, I'm sure they make plenty of income for the organisers. The main thing is one can remove oneself from the mele and enjoy awesome historic racing 👌
No MK7/8/9 a big surprise.. Most handsome Jags of all imo..
@@TheLRider yes, curious, and not that many vintage Jags either compared to other gatherings that I've been to.........
I was there in 2006ish with my beautiful 2002 XKR Soft top.. I so miss the car and going to such events..
I bought a 2008 Jimny for £3000. Have spent at least that on parts. 2 years labour. Worth it?. Absolutely. I am a consulting engineer with a super stressful job. This is where I switch off, most times have little real idea of what I am doing and have restored it to mint condition. I will never ever get my money back, but this is the most satisfying fun thing I have done in years, and its super fun to drive. So the self satisfaction part has to count for something! (4x4 no 14 btw)
@@godfreypatrick9792 absolutely cracking 👍😍
I went on the Saturday with general admission as well. First time for me, having watched it for a few years online. Had a fantastic day (despite some of the showers!) and one ill remember for many years to come. We stayed just 15mins down the road, so managed to get in about 8am and left around 9pm. Makes it a long day but id say getting in that little bit earlier if you can means you can get round some of the areas and have a look before the crowds come in. Yes id advise taking some lunch, or at least a few drinks and snacks in a backpack. We found some seating near to the inside of the Lavant straight. The sights, sounds (loud!) and smells all add to it and a great day out for £100 ticket. 👍👍
@@tharr182 thanks for your support and sharing your own experience 👍👌
Nice video. I went on Friday, got drenched and ended up marching straight through some of these areas looking for cover
@@RaceDayReplay thanks for the feedback, we had a little more luck on Saturday........
Excellent depiction of what Revival is like for the general punter. If historic racing is your thing you'll already have been, I'm sure. They've really expanded the non-racing stuff for those in your family who prefer that but boy, is it all expensive! Good advice to take your own picnic and seats.
Thank you for your feedback, definitely don't have to spend a fortune to enjoy the event, but it can become a money pit!
Went 5yrs ago agree with all you said , got to be on a things to do list , dress up and go back in time 👍

How much is a good one (complete) worth?
@@rjansen6874 I'm not sure on value to be honest, I've seen them for sale for £2000/£3000 in running order but they are not common and probably too quirky to be desirable so it's hard to value......
@@rjansen6874 Hi, it's really hard to judge because they are not a common thing. This one looks good but of course as with everything a paintjob hides a lot. At £3600 it seems a bit high but then if someone really wants one then maybe not. Do you know how long it's been for sale, that might tell you something? It's always worth going to look and find out some more information. I would probably consider doing a deal though. Good luck! PS: if you end up buying it then let me know as I can source original information on these, build sheets, original owners etc. I'm considering compiling a register for Lansing Bagnall tow tractors HowardT

What's the difference between a topper and mower
Hi, in agricultural terms a topper is a rough cutter, often called a brush hog in the USA, it tends to chop up grass much like a rotary lawn mower. An agricultural mower is usually used for cutting hay where it has a more accurate and finer cut and it leaves grass stalks intact without chopping them up. Thanks for watching the video 👍

These XKs do sound glorious, I have a 5.0 NA 2010 model, but.... I have an aftermarket cat-back exhaust system. You haven't heard glorious until you hear an XK with a non-factory back box 😂 I was side by side at the lights earlier this year with an XK-RS, he was green with envy, his sounded not a patch on mine! I keep meaning to make a RUclips vid of the sound myself.
Yes, I agree, a lovely noise!
Pretty sure it's not Lunar Grey, looks too dark for that, although Lunar Grey is one of those colours that can vary a LOT in how it looks dependent upon sunlight etc. I have a Lunar Grey 5.0 version. The code is on the plate inside the passenger door just above the door catch. The code for Lunar Grey is LJZ.
I'll check that out, thanks!
Thank you, that was very enjoyable and interesting. I liked the way you just showed us the close ups of the cars. Please don't put background music over your videos. They are good the way they are.
Thank you , I'm glad that you enjoyed it. With the background music, what is it that is a problem; is it the music at each end of the videos or during the video when there is a fast forward bit or just some simple stuff happening? I'm interested in your view, thank you.
