Wild Landings: Namibia Trailer (intro only)
It makes no sense... 1. They said that they realized it was a mistake right away, yet never discussed returning. Weird... 2. They noticed that the storm was getting worse on their vector, towards southwest, so they could have changed course to north, and landed in any airport in South India. Nope. They kept moving forward. 3. After that, they were "terrified, fearing for their lives" and... Flew literally over the Maldives... Where there are plenty of airports... And they also didn't stop. Look, I'm not saying that they're lying about a "terrible tropical storm", but... Yah know?
To the contrary - it happened exactly as in the film. We didn't fly over the Maldives - we routed south becuase we understood that the storm was more to the north - exactly over the Maldives. Although I have an IF rating, we didn't have any plates for airports other than those we'd planned to land at. We had no comms, becuase our HF radio was not working, and in fact we didn't even have maps for airports in India or other locations we'd not planned to land at at all. I'd not do that again, but I guess it was early days and we were determined to complete the flight. Bear in mind that Mike had only a VFR PPL and I'd obtained my IF rating the day before we left for the trip. The leg was also fuel critical, so we weren't able to fly substantial diversions. We were using a non-certified MGL EFIS which is great at many things, but it's not like the Garmins we fit now which have all the relevant data and so on. I have just watched that section of the film again and it somewhat raises the hair on my arms. I'm glad it's in the past, but those are wonderful experiencdes to look back on!
@jamespitman2086 Thank you for taking the time to answer me, when you could have simply censored my comment. I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm being critical about gaps that I see in the story, ok? In your reply you reiterate that you didn't fly over the Maldives but at 46:28 the reenactment apparently contradicts that... Ok, let's say it was a mistake by the production of the documentary and you did go too far south, as you claim. Even in that case you had to fly over (or close enough to) ANY of the literally dozens of airports in the Indian Ocean in your route, including the British Territory. I dunno man... As I said before, it makes no sense to me... But I wasn't there. It's also hard to believe that you were so neglectful with so much at stake: it wasn't just a crazy adventure after all, it was the ultimate publicity stunt for your recently found company and a mishap could potentially have costed you everything. I'm not a pilot myself, but I do know that it's not uncommon for producers/directors/writers to fabricate (or at least spice up) the narrative for engagement. And I also have a map on my phone... Despite that hole in the story though, I must say that I enjoyed the documentary, so much so that I watched it twice. It's an inspiring (and kinda truthful) story that undoubtedly motivates everyone who tries to experience life in the real world
To push boundaries makes one understand life and these two guys did exactly that . Ultimate respect and admiration 🫵💪👍
The Granny story is Epic😂!
Just discovered you guys. Thanks for creating the most incredible unimagined adventure. Funtastic times. It was great to see the Namibian landscapes from the air.🤗

Very nice guys i like watching from Malawi
Growing old and graceful doing shit like this is the best a man could ever ask for. Cheers mates🎉
wow, some people live life while others just wait to die. I hope I get the chance to start living and stop waiting to die
How did you get all that footage from outside the plane?
Ha ha. From place to place people shot a bit of film as we arrived, and we cadged it. The round the world aeroplane was sadly lost in spin testing, but a customer had purchased a look alike, which we borrowed, and we did do a weekend flyaway to the beach in Durban with 2 aircraft on which we took some air to air footage over the land and sea, and which we could cut in to make the film flow more freely. The shots into the cockpit and over the wing in the pouring rain we shot in a hangar, using a hosepipe through the propellor, and using an arc welding machine to make lightning. Sort of film maker secrets - but it's long enough ago to tell!
have seen this so many times and I lived every minute of this adventure
I want to do what you do so bad I’m hoping to buy a plane soon and try fly to the island you visited in Africa the one with the abandoned fishing village and the runway
İ open this video randomly it's camera angles and story telling is way better than any national geographic story line.
Cada dos personas de todo el mundo así deben tener la energía para disfrutar y la aventura
still amazing to this day.
This is an amazing story, about Africa, about history, about culture but most importantly about friendship, absolutely amazing film guys
Mike Blyth literally breaking bad - steps
This is hands down the best thing South Africa has ever produced in almost every respect
A nuclear power on the African Continent. Nice. Only the best possess nuclear weapons, and they did it.
he is mad.
If you don't have financial sponsors .... all these would not be possible ... Even if you're millionaire, you would have had better things to do
how are this videos not in the millions? this are entirely entertaining and beautiful.
Scary shit really!, but so glad you guys keep sharing al the ins and outs of your trips. In a sense makes us all a little more proficient and aware.
What a brilliant video! I'm guessing that the microlight was built by Aiden de Gersigny? My Nephew Craig Couzens was also one of the first pilots to fly them and then became their Test Pilot and took over ownership of the factory when Aiden passed away!
Beautiful! It's funny, I found myself thinking about the third person who was there all along to do the filming (and in the end, there he is, the man behind the camera. That was funny!). Still, excellent production and incredible images of an astonishing beautiful place. The sense of adventure and the humor affect us. Greetings from Lisbon!
It took the algorithm 4 years to find out this is what I want!
Namibia is ….. Namibia.
Magic!
