To bad most of the comments for this video are made by ill informed and ignorant armchair idiots. Does it really just blow right on by you folks, or just doesn't occur to your feeble minds that the reason this guy is not only still in business, but growing, is because he is actually NOT selling any 1. Illegal 2. Endangered or 3. Non sustainably harvested woods??? Here's a suggestion for you folks; Before you start publicly accusing someone of wrongdoing and in some cases here a crime, make damn sure you know what the fuck you're accusing them of and that you are 100% correct! Otherwise you just assure your place in the "Ignorant Internet Assholes" club. And why the fuck are many of you making such a big deal about his accent or where he is from? Last time I checked this was still AMERICA, the country build by and peopled by immigrants from almost every other nation in the world. So Shut The Fuck Up! And to Rory Wood, great place you've got! Incredible selection and inventory as well. If I may make a request/suggestion. This video has far too little actual video of the beautiful grain and patterns in the woods you have. I speak for myself only here, but as a huge fan of beautiful and exotic hardwoods, I could care less about seeing stacks of banded bundles of wood. It could be almost any junk wood out there and you could not tell it apart from any of the bundled hardwoods you show on the video. I want to see close ups of grain patterns, figure, and colors! I know you've got absolutely tons of that to show us. Maybe time for an updated video???

I just finished working on a house that featured several woods from your facility. Windows and doors were trimmed with bloodwood, purple heart, and marblewood, two ceilings are zebrawood and stairs are bloodwood with birdseye maple risers. I counted 12 species of wood in the interior. Most were finished with water based polyurethane. I'm curious to see how the different woods darken and change colors with age and light exposure. Some of the bloodwood is already turning a nice shade of brown which seems to accentuate the grain.

is birds eye maple as rare as I've heard claimed? also, I bet keeping the outside of your building "plain jane" saves you a lot of property tax? (I build knives, and starting to do fine pens as well)

I've been working with wood most of my life and have never seen a piece of wood that costs $2200.00. I'm trying to imagine what I would make out of it if I got it. Probably nothing. I would just end up hanging it on the wall just as it is and framing the receipt underneath it. At first, I thought it might make a good bench but I couldn't possibly risk having someone sit on it and spill something on it. Thanks for being honest and not shy about letting us know you're charging for the fresh air inside it. That was my favorite part of the tour. Its good to have a sense of humor when it comes to rosewood prices. Now I need to step outside for some fresh air.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with cutting rare woods to expose their beauty, it's the sheer waste of it that is the problem....like Japan using Brazilian rosewood for disposable chop sticks in some restaurants. etc.

That's highly unlikely, Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) is protected under CITES 1, very heavily restricted, you can't even export products made from the wood.

As the wood is stored and moisture stabilized, I wonder if there is an actual "shelf life" for certain types of wood. If kept in the right conditions would a piece of cut but untreated wood last almost indefinitely?

Hi Rory, this vid is about 5 years old so I hope you are well and not dead or something. while you were talking I wondered if it would behoove you to start a movement that encourages wood working, in schools and in private. So many people are building things out of pallets and barn wood that I think many people would love a class to get the basics down. The people who find out they have talent would quite possibly end up being your customers. Thanks for your video, I would love to buy a franchise from you when you get them going. we will have wood working classes all over the world.

Italian Cypress, hands down. It's also far more hard and durable than I ever would have imagined. One would never guess those trees could produce usable lumber but they most certainly do.
