A few things were disappointing, but this game existing is a miracle and is still very solid I got past Super Tower of Goo on the first try, I think I played the original a little too much....

Actually, if you see interviews about the first World of Goo game, its story is actually not "big corporation bad" per se, but actually specifically about the struggles of indie game developers in a world dominated and driven by the game industry. It's why Chapter 3 is about Product Z (references the 3D craze that was already rampant in 2008) and why Chapter 4 is literally the internet (it's what gives indies a place to grow independent from the gaming industry; 2D Boy's only outlet was their internet forum). Kyle Gabler himself described gooballs being sucked by a global pipe distribution system akin to aspiring game devs being picked up by the gaming industry (reminder that he used to be an EA employee) This is what I really like about Tomorrow Corp's/2D Boy's games. You think the message is a generic criticism of something in society, and while they do make their jabs at various stuff, the real message actually ends up being something way more personal. Little Inferno does the same thing, which uses the themes of climate change and free to play/pay to win games to talk about loneliness, "escaping the endless loop" and making the most out of your time instead of burning it away. And World of Goo 2, of course, also follows, talking about how making a sequel that lives up to the original is impossible, and it's better to leave the rest to the modding community (WoG has an active modding community, even to this day, which is why probably they mostly refer to them rather than other indie game devs in general) rather than attempt to reach unreachable heights only to end up rehashing the same material again and again.

PLEASE. Please. I beg you. Make disclaimers for sensitive moments. The freaking hyper-realistic eyes is the LEAST THING, I want to see in night or just in general. Thanks.

I will say, Ceroba’s a bit more complicated than one would think- They didn’t need just ANYONE they needed a boss monster- And those are very hard to find. Kanako was a boss monster and likely the only one besides Asgore that she knew of- And Chujin did wish for Kanako not to be involved but he also wanted his work complete- This was a catch 22 and in my opinion Ceroba isn’t as complicated as one would think

12:12 The whole point of the genocide route is to be extremely unfun, annoying, and bone crushingly hard for such a normally approachable and casual game. That's the point, to try and get you to not do it. This also applies to why the replayability is so bad, as Flowey literally begs you to not reset after pacifist and the game tries to get you to not reset by making the replayability horrible. In my opinion Undertale Yellow misses many of the points Toby was trying to get across via the game design, and is it's biggest weakness.

3:51 i beat this level first try (yes, i am bragging. Come at me)

Since people are posting their ideas about different stuff in the story, here's my interpretation of Angler: Angler is about sudden success, and how stressful it can be. The level itself is supposed to be a party celebrating your success, but the fireworks are constantly thrashing your fishing line around, it's dark and your vision can't adjust because of the flashing lights, and it's all very noisy with foreboding music and loud background chatter. It's a stressful level to play. It must've been how the 2D Boy guys felt when World of Goo 1 was a chart-topping success. Glad that their gamble paid off, but also unsure how to handle the sudden fame now that the media has eyes on them and they'll now be expected to deliver in the future. It's a great fire-breathing monster that was bigger than any of them could have expected. Going off another commenter saying the ending is about inspiration, since the massive column of fire breath is what initially caught the eye of Rocket Man, even though it was scary and stressful in the moment, it would eventually lead to other games and pieces of art that were inspired by it.

Okay i could be completely mistaken, but on my first playthrough i felt the story wasn't that bad! From my interpretation the WOG organisation rebuilt itself once the goo started bubbling up again, pretending to be green as the goo is now theoretically renewable. Then they found the squid monster (maybe multiple) that are responsible for spitting out the goo (ik theres a level where it does exactly that) and captured it for profit despite seeming green. They started to extract as much as humanly possible, the only way to produce more is to speed up time (this is hinted at by signs). This then leads to the jump into the future and allows the commentary on sequels and revisiting your childhood that someone else mentioned in the comments! Sorry if this was a bit hard to read, im on mobile haha

As the biggest World of Goo glazer in existence, this is genuinely my game of the year and one of my new favorite games ever, I loved nearly every second of it and it's absolutely a worthy successor to the godly original

I think the story is actually about how they couldn't make a world of goo 2, it all feels disconnected because it's meant to be, it's all just cool ideas thrown around with no reason, the soundtrack is recycled and many of the things we see are similar to world of goo 1 because it wants us to feel like we've already seen all of this before. When you get to chapter 4 you see the eventual result of doing this repeating process forever, the idea of a world of goo 17 is funny but scary at the same time because it's just the same stuff repeated over and over with a different mask. At one point the sign painter says that the game's story changed, this wasn't the original chapter 4, the story derailed and, in chapter 5, it starts to focus on the telescope guy. He says how he's been observing this world and taking pictures, but when he arrived on the planet everything was different, the things he saw in his childhood on the telescope were faded and different now. I think this is a metaphor for us, for everyone who played the original and wanted to feel the same, but felt empty when we played world of goo 2. In the ending, the telescope guy starts taking pieces of the planet, and then goes on to disperse them throughout other planets, creating life. I think this is what the devs wanted us to take away from the game, it's impossible to recapture the magic of things in our childhood, we changed, and so has our perception of them, we cannot make the same thing over and over again, but we CAN take inspiration from this stuff, take the good things, the feelings, the ideas, and make our own art out of it, not repeating old stuff but in the process of inspiration creating something new. It's ultimately a story about letting go, leaving old things behind and focusing on creating new concepts, but with the inspiration of everything that came before us. Using the nostalgia to further fulfill ourselves rather than getting stuck in the past. I honestly find it's a beautiful message in this modern age full of remakes and sequels.
