One Marvelous Scene - Not a Perfect Soldier
Ok, but the ending fucks with Barney's character arc, it shits on Robin and Barney's wedding that it spent so long building up to, and it does a very good job at convincing us that Ted and Robin are better off as friends. Getting into the whole perspective thing, narrator Ted knows that Barney and Robin get divorced, so why did he say so many things about their love being legendary. Seriously, the penultimate episode is Robin and Barney getting Married and makes it sound like it's going to work. From Ted's perspective, shouldn't he have told the story as if Barney and Robin will never work. The problem isn't the ending, it's that the show had the fans routing for Barney and Robin. (I know there are signs that the wedding won't work, but the narration portrays them as not really being problematic)
@13:07 How dare you call Barney's tricks cheap. Not one of his tricks are cheap. Except for the Cheap Trick and even that ones requires expensive hair extensions😂
If you watched disneys Dinosaurs as a kid no comedy series will ever be dark for you. 😅
Season 5 and 6 fulfilled the promise in its theme song: “I can count the reasons I should stay. One by one, they all just fade away.”
I never changed my opinion on Andrew’s spidy cause he was always the best in my eyes
Never watched it, but based on that last scene they emasculated all the men on the show. Which is also why they had no parallel Barney.
thanks for those spoilers buddy great idea
I'm extremely surprised you didn't mention that this episode also includes the first clue that the mother died. Because why would he ask for 45 more days, let alone 45 more seconds, if the mother is in the next room reading a book while he's telling the story.
This was just sad man and a huge plot in the show that how ted was so alone at that point
everyone forgets it's rita and debs own faults and stupidity and sheer incompetency that got them killed. rita forgot something at home and deb was indecisive. how everyone is so delusional...
_Warning, long rant incoming because I love HIMYM and I actually liked HIMYF:_ Ok, so I just finished watching HIMYF and I really liked it, but I don't think that it has much to do with the things mentioned in the video, to me it just boils down to one essential thing: heart. HIMYM had tons of heart, and HIMYF had it, but it's like they didn't lean into it. I started watching HIMYM when I was like 17 or 18, I'm 29 now and I thought that I would rewatch it and realize that it wasn't that good, but actually the opposite happened. The first few seasons speak to me in a way that really surprised me. Stuff like Marshall struggling to get his first job and having no money for nice clothes to go to job interviews, then getting one and hating his corporate job and his coworkers, and Lily being a supportive girlfriend about that, Robin having a tough day and wondering what she's doing with her life, Ted standing up to his boss and presenting his design for a building; all of that felt very real. When I rewatched that, it really felt like it was a group of real people telling me real stuff from their lives because a lot of it was either stuff that I have gone through myself, stuff that I am going through right now, or stuff I wish I could go through. On the other hand, HIMYF had moments full of heart, but then they didn't expand on them. At the end of the first episode when Valentina says that Sophie's parents weren't perfect and the only miracle is that she still believes in love at all was the moment that I felt like this was indeed a follow up to HIMYM. But then we never got to see romantic Sophie again, at least not to that degree, instead they started having episodes that weren't really saying anything, they just started putting them in absolutely ridiculous situations to try to be funny, or they just touched important topics on the surface. The Charlie and Valentina kids debate felt very painful because that's definitely a thing that happens to a lot of people, Sophie reconnecting with her dad was lovely. And the idea of having characters from HIMYM show up being totally different from who they were is incredible. After seeing Robin struggle so much with her career, having her show up as an already famous anchor felt awesome, and having Barney talking so lovingly about his daughter was just perfect, I would even say that it was better done here than in the original show. In the original show it just felt like a cheap way of taking focus away from his divorce with Robin and giving him his version of a happy ending, but on HIMYF I really believed that he changed for the better, it felt like the episode where Barney's dad tells him that he was far more broken than Barney, you almost don't believe that he was a mess. It kind of legitimized that ending. The point of HIMYM was who they were, so who they became kind of didn't fit, but who they became had a very natural place on this show because it wasn't about them. If they leaned more into those kinds of things it would've been perfect. But a lot of episodes felt completely disconnected from that, at certain points it felt like I was watching something closer to iCarly than to HIMYM. Plus, like the basic premise of the show is done so different, in HIMYM I always got the feeling that future Ted loved being dad, and he loved the mother. On HIMYF we don't know if Sophie is in love with the father, if the are divorced, if they were together briefly and had a kid then split up amicably. It just... well, what I said. It just doesn't have the same heart.
Just watching this video, you should have been in charge of HIMYF.
Major music W from Home
They could have just made himyf about tracy's life. They gave us only about 1 episode for her story to shine and we would really like to see a more elaborate version.
himym started as a “copy” of friends so they also didn’t start from 0,
I fully believe that coatcheck girl was actually there. I think that in the moment when he's about to ask for her number, he suddenly thinks about how it always ends up: another broken relationship. Thinking about that, he just stops himself, like he's stopped believing
Pam is clearly the show's best character (after Michael). Glad she had the last word in the end.
One of the most interesting things about the earlier seasons of The Office, pre-flanderization, was the more nuanced relationship between Michael and Toby. Though Michael already had that distorted childish view of him because of his position in the office, he didn't mistreat him that badly yet, in the outlandish ways he always does later in the show. In fact, Toby was often the only person Michael bonded with at the end of the day. Remember Take Your Daughter to Work Day? The only kid Michael genuinely bonds with on that day is Toby's daughter and he even ends up seriously advising Michael, who sincerely listens and appreciates it, on his plans to have children. And although Toby clearly wasn't very fond of Michael, he didn't let him walk all over him and sometimes empathized with him. That's one of the things I missed the most after the show got cartoonified. Toby was also the guy almost everybody in The Office went to for venting purposes, as per Conflict Resolution, which meant that people found him trustworthy and likeable before he became the Lame Creep not only in Michael's eyes, but everyone else's.
It's not a reboot it's a sequel
Great, now I’m depressed again
This is A gold and B an awesome insight into himym - 3 years later and this legend is still hitting home runs 👏
What this sounds like Is the idea of how I met your father was already done but better with grown-ish
What’s the song playing in the background around minute 6:19?
it made me cry, man. as someone who's also alone a lot.. i feel for ted. i just feel for him
Nice breakdown. This illustrates why I would, 9 times out of 10, prefer HIMYM over F.R.I.E.N.D.S.. Where the latter is a much more consistent feel-good, comforting watch, the former is a zanier, more gimmicky, more creative, and more interesting trip. The inside jokes are more engaging, the tone shifts are more drastic and even jarring, its reliance on inside jokes, flashbacks, cutaway gags, meticulous detail, and inappropriate innuendo that many woke people would deem cancel-worthy, as well as ridiculous, implausible and utterly ridiculous and childish plot devices and storylines, plus it is not afraid to go dark. And when it does, man does it always manage to hit hard. When HIMYM gets serious, nobody does it quite like it - the writers abilities to touch upon relatable, sobering life realities is just unmatched, and the actors manage to pull them off convincingly. HIMYM is a show that was never afraid to fall on its face. It always threw everything on the wall, regardless of it being a very sticky wall. Just compelling, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately brilliant TV.
I've watched himym 11.5 times I hate the ending I hate the ending every time.
Guys, I see you commenting here about several sad moments in the series, but there’s one in particular that no one mentioned, and I’d like to highlight it. In episode S09E21, Ted says: "And that's how it goes, kids. The friends, neighbors, drinking buddies, and partners in crime you love so much when you're young, as the years go by, you just lose touch." Heartbreaking
The last couple of minutes are the only saving grace of the episode. Everything before is unfunny, cartoonish garbage.
the episode that messed me up for good
That's actually a great perspective! Honestly, this changed my view on the ending!
The episode in which Robin talked to her never exist children because she found out that she can never have a child is more dark and devastating imho.
This episode has so much more of a depressing end because SPOILERS Ted rushes saying if he could go back he would go get another month of time with the mother...the mother who is deceased when he is telling this story!!... depressing
The main giant difference of the two shows is that himyf doesn't tell the journey to meet the father, but instead the journey on how one of the characters become the father. if some people here didn't watch the show they showed "The father" on the first ep but it's more like one of the character we saw is the father, so we don't know. This consept really put a new fresh spin on himym instead of waiting 8 seasons to find out who the mother is.
It was the best episode in my opinion
Bruh, your methaphor is so wrong
This episode had me bawling my eyes out when I rewatched the show. The ending is beautiful when you don't know how the show ends, but it also becomes absolutely gut-wrenching when you do. I literally had to pause after the credits so I could just fully ugly cry my eyes out as the bittersweet ending played on a loop in my mind.
How can you talk about this episode without the ending ..: which is the saddest part
How I Met Your Mother just shocks you off guard sometimes.
I can’t get past the Summoning Salt music
I never felt like the show treated the relationship with his wife as seriously as with robin so her death was kind of inconsequential
himym has in media res. starting a story in the middle to create immediate suspense for the listeners. this is literally one of the oldest tricks in the book. literally how Odyssey starts
Some episodes really hit, but in the end it still expresses a great message, thats why this show is the best
worst episode was the last one, possibly the worst ending of all sitcoms (that and Seinfeld) pretty sure they got a new writer for that last episode.
Damn the part about moving on hit me like a truck i used to love this show i found huge comfort on it im pretty sure i watched it 4 times over one summer once but that was like 6 years ago when i was still a kid (im still very much a kid tho) but now im going to college this year
I knew right away from this episode that the mother would be dead when Ted said I want to spent 45 more days with you.
My issue is having 9 seasons of character development for everyone being set back to the first episode. Like what was the point of having the last 3 seasons building up Barney and Robin’s wedding for them to divorce in the next episode. And through the whole series, Ted is getting over Robin and then surprise, he actually didn’t! As if that’s what I was waiting 9 seasons for
Dark is a bit of an exaggeration, I don't even remember this episode to be honest
What they did to Ted in this episode is exactly what happened to Barney in the last season.
My favorite joke of the show, which appears in season 2, is Jesse and Charlie trying to pretend they're in a fake play and they accidentally stumble into "September 11th, 2000" lol. "What are you doing a year from today??"
lol not the assasins creed gameplay in the beginning
