UBOAT VS SH3 (Diving physics)
Просмотров 22 тыс.3 года назад
I wanted to do a comparison video between Silent Hunter III and UBOAT. I hope that the devs will create more realistic diving physics in the game. Because as of now Silent Hunter III is more realistic.
3:45 should mention that hitboxes are worse in sh3
SHIII is almost 20 years old! And is still the best sub sim from WW2.
70 GB..... 🤦♂️
Sh3 is the best in my opinion.
Nothing beats good old sh3 with grey wolves mod, too bad I've been experiencing random crashes that makes it unplayable
WHICH CONTROLS!
S and E respectively
Do u play SH5??
That’s all well and good but sh3 is a buggy mess. The amount of hours I’ve poured into campaigns only for the saved games to corrupt, losing everything put me off playing it for good.
You needed to blow ballast to get that rushed surface at an angle action for the uboat
If I remember correctly there was no blow ballast feature in UBOAT at the time of recording this video.
Uboat has potencial to be a similiar to Sh3 yes as of currently it lacks the development but it's still in early acceses although full release is planned to come soon. Hopefully this game will become the next sh3
*ALARM!!!!!!*
So did uboat fix this issue yet?
Will u pls help me about U boat gameplay
Fun Fact! U-BOAT's Submarine doesnt have a crush depth. No matter how deep you go, you wont get the Titan expirience
Lmao, damn, that's a major oversight.
Hmm, u sure
@@cideltacommand7169 yes, no matter how deep you dive you won't get crushed. You can get way below 250 meters and live to tell the tail
@@trickythefox9598 no you can't, if you have uncontrolled flooding ur going to crush at 300
Thats cap, ive been crushed before. Not immediately but the boat will start leaking everywhere
I played both. IMO. SH3 was typical mainstream game, focused on looks, less on gameplay.. and it appears to be modded, vanilla had different water / gauges / sounds. I got bored of SH3 quickly, mission engine and normal gameplay was so undeveloped. Fixed stations, no engine room, dumbed down damage control, unrepairable hull damage and very poor vanilla sounds and asthetics. UBOAT focuses more on gameplay mechanics than actual simulation. Like you can lay the boat down on the bottom and it helps to avoid ASDIC. (afaik that would have been crash in SH3) but not very sharp on the simulation department, if you release crew from the dive planes, boat rises up even if dive planes have no effect when engines stopped. But game mechanics are so many more complex in UBOAT... the missions, crew development, supply, food, 1st person mode immersion. With mods real navigation and sextant, real TDC and simulation improvement mods.
And so many things come in the next months!
no way! this unfinished early access game is, in fact, unfinished and in early access
After 1 year... they added conning tower spray and thats it!
They also have highly detailed interior models with a dynamic crew going to other compartments and not teleporting around, you can interact with things and move around in first person view, the TDC is now physically there. You don't have that even in SH3 GWXOneAlex supermod. I'm okay pointing out the flaws of Uboat, but let's not forget what it does better too.
@@RonJeremy514 No wonder, it took them another year
Notice the bubble escaping from the balast in uboat ;)
You should also point out the minute detail that water spray from the tanks ONLY occurs on the openings precisely placed! and there even on the rear part of the ballast tank openings. In comparison in Uboat - to this day, the water is just very generically placed all over the side The graphics are much improved in Uboat, but for 16 years difference, not enough.. so sad
IMHO SH3 with GWX and widescreen GUI mods sill beats newer sims in terms of overall gameplay and realism if not in graphics. I've tried UBOAT and SH5+wolves of steel and finally returned to SH3. UBOAT isn't bad for those more interested in the vibes and personal Kaleun's perspective, but it focuses too much on crew micromanagement and take inconsistent approach to realism: you can manually operate the water pump but still have this real-time god's eye map . Also I didn't appreciate HP bar for enemy ships, this was the final straw for me.
I'm doing the same, going back to SH3 after Uboat and SH5 TWoS. What mod do you suggest to an old GWX player in 2022? One Alex mod or LSH?
@@Nattevandring currently I'm using Toyotagt86's Enhanced mod for GWX3.0, it can be found on subsim forum, it has ARB and MaGUI versions (I like ARB). Can't recommend anything, it's a very subjective thing, it just works for me.
hmmm I might give Silent hunter 3 a try then
Now with realism settings the boat HP bar can be hidden, crew management can be tuned down and the graphics, even a year before from my comment, you either have a potato PC, bad eyes, or straight up lying. Only the waves are really incredible in size and physics with SH3 GWX mods but not in overall appearance/effects and color gradient.
UBoat is an *EARLY ACCESS* Game btw *Edit* The game's being developed by a small team unlike SH3 with oh I don't know... Ubisoft! The people who made Siege, The Division, Ghost Recon, Assassins Creed and so on. Now I see why you are nitpicking but cut them some slack. If *YOU* want the game to be perfect, then go help them out because they are a small team compared to a AAA Title company.
Ubisoft Romania was behind SH3, which is vastly different from other Ubisoft studios when they made the more recent R6 Siege, The Division, Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed, including the recent Far Cry games compared to the older ones until FC3 (most AAA from Ubi are made by the Montreal studio). Ubisoft back in the days had talented and passionate devs, comparing Uboat devs with modern Ubi devs is not even fair in the sense that in their defense, said Ubisoft games now are actually trash, mark my word. Ubisoft doesn't know how to make exciting games anymore. Uboat still needs more time and details to shine like SH3 which was made to be submarine simulator with indeed more workforce and budget (but also less advanced technical means in this time period). But don't even ask modern Ubi devs to make a simulator of any kind: they can't. To them, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is probably the pinnacle of tactical shooters and comparable to ArmA 3, I'm not kidding. Even with the recent gameplay overhaul of AC series, their games have started to be less and less about stealth and more and more about being a crappy RPG or soulless arcade shooters. Let's not even start with R6 which is a joke and all the other games like Watchdogs with BORING gameplay loops and BORING stories (why are devs forcing themselves to create lore and a scenario when 99% of video games have a crappy story compared to an acclaimed literature classic? I never understood that.)
Uboat in the state it's in is unacceptable. Its unoptimized and glitchy as shit. Theyve had 5 to 6 years to develop the game into a playable state. You also act like theyre a small team, but the devs are churning out games left and right alongside developing Uboat. Its a good game but I just accepted it wont get better and started playing SH3.
@@kevincho1187I haven't found glitches but refunded after 2 hours of gameplay because even with capped fps it puts a lot of stress on the GPU that goes into overheating. I have an rtx 2060 12gb, idk if it's because of crappy optimization or the unity engine. Shame because I think it's a decent game.
@K.Marx48 Crappy optimization by the looks of it. Run a 3080 and it was chugging.
Silent hunter 3 had over 100 people working on it, Uboat has 2-3. Even though the water spray etc has been included now, they should be cut a bit of slack.
Sh3 ist aber von 2007 u boat von 2019

try wolfpack, very promising.
U Boat changed this recently ! I'm sure the devs saw this video ! There is now water spray when emergency diving, the crew also rushes to the forward compartiment. Which then does in fact make the submarine tilt forward more.
But screw rotation speed it's still incorrect, too slow rpm.
@@michabee true
@@michabee theres a mod for this now
today there is pray ( with new patch)
You should mention that your SH3 is heavily modded
He did.
The uboat sub looks like its pitching down to me at the end. Nice try.
"Just after the conning tower slips under the waves the submarine maintains quite realistic diving angle but after few seconds for some odd reason it levels and starts to dive horizontally. Not realistic!!!" The boat would also dive in this angle from the beginning, not just after being under water.
I used the OneAlex version for about 5 hours. Excruciatingly long load times and 100% torpedo failure rates. The graphics and items like removable UZO and lowering and raising of hydrophone and flags were nice but I want a game that works so I'll stick to GWX. As for Uboat... " The Sims go to war " is my best description of this micromangement nightmare.
Not accurate for the current state of the game, not to mention that you can turn all but the most basic aspects of the crew management features off.
The dud torpedoes have an accurate percentage to the torpedo failures of the war
In OneAlex set depth no less than 3m (4m in bad weather), impact pistol and "medium" as max speed, fire no less than 800m from target and try to stay at an AoB of 90° +/- 20° and you can reduce dull rate to 20-30%. In very bad weather shadow the route of the ship in no less than 6-8Km distance and plan your approach when it gets better. It's hard work being Herr Kaleun, but very rewarding at last
Currently OneAlex is the most stable megamods i have tried. Back in the earlier days it used to be crashing quite often. I think removal of the interior mods helped quite a much.
Don't say "SH3". You make some think that the video is a uboat against an SH3 ASW helicopter.
What sound mod are you using for SH3?
Are you sure, that you are correct? As I understand U-Boat technology, the diving behavior of SH3 should the more unrealistic one. The reason is simple. As long as the balasttanks are not flodded to a certin degree, the uplift of the boat is simply to strong for the diveplanes to have any effect. In order for the boat to dive, you must first flood the tanks. This takes some time, becaus this is not done by simply pushing a button. You must first open a lot of valves manualy. Then it takes some time for the water to actually flood into the tanks. And as all tanks, bow and stern, are flooded more or less simultaniously, the boat will sink into the ocean vertical until the moment the force exerted from the diveplanes will overcome the uplift from the remaining air in the tanks. From this moment on the boat will pitch down. As proof just look at other types submarines. The WWII US Fleet Submarines of the Gato-class had their diveplanes positioned directly at or above the waterline as do many modern submarines like the older LA-class or the modern german submarines of type 212A. They positioned thier diveplanes on their conning-towers. But you are correct, the screws are far to slow in "UBOAT".
go watch some actual ralistic footage
The SH3 diving behavior is realistic. Yes, it does take some time for the ballast tanks to completely flood, and I don't see how this would chance the angle of the dive. As soon as the dive order is given, the bow planes are pitched down, and the stern planes are pitched up. As the ballast tanks slowly flood, the bow will be the first part to go down. The stern, on the other hand, is pulled upwards by the aft planes, and so will "hang" at the surface until the ballast tanks are completely flooded. Once neutral bouyancy is achieved, the boat drives nose-down into the depths. Once you get close to the desired depth, you level off, and switch from using both the bow and stern planes for pitch control, to just using the bow planes for depth control while the aft planes are used to keep the boat level. You *CAN* dive and ascend on an even keel, but it would take longer to get to the desired depth because that's like slowly belly-flopping your way up or down through the water. When large or rapid changes in depth are desired, it's much faster to just point the nose in the direction of whatever depth you want to go to, and drive the boat there using the propellers.
@@forshigity5000 "Look it up" is not a helpful way of explaining to someone how or why they're wrong about something.
And yes, the propellers in U-boat are rotating far too slow. On the other hand, the propellers in SH3 are always cavitating when they're running. The amount of cavitation increases with RPM, but there's no lower limit. Even when running at 0.5 knots at 225m depth, the propellers will create a small cloud of bubbles every second or so. Realistically, there *should* be a point where the RPM is too low to create the low pressure needed for cavitation bubbles to form, and that "minimum cavitation RPM" should increase with depth (due to increasing ambient water pressure), but the SH3 developers didn't think of that.
whats the mod called your using in silent hunter 3?
GWX3 (Grey Wolves), a must have for any SH3 player.
I downloaded lsh3 2020 and im sorry i did. I did have gwx years ago. Has it been updated recently?
also add the fact that currently there isn't any manual control over the alarm! something so simple isnt in the game yet. I really hope that both the Diving physics and manual input over the alarm gets fixed
Uboat diving physics really sucks
Well, a couple of points. First the two games are simulating different things. UBoat is a crew management game at its core. SH3 was a U-Boat combat simulator. Second, and most important, UBoat is an early access game still in Beta. SH3 has been out since 2005. Of course many things in UBoat are going to be clunky and "unrealistic". You cannot compare the two at this point. I put "unrealistic" in quotes because both of them are video games and there is nothing "realistic" about either of them. Play either of them, both of them or neither of them. That's the beauty of video gaming. Enjoy!
I'd file this video under "constructive criticism". The bouyancy and dive plane simulation in U-boat can probably be fixed quite easily. It probably got overlooked due to a focus on the crew management aspect of the game.
To add to my comment, I do mod the game. I also use Improved Ballast Control, which makes the Uboat dive a bit faster. Just overall better Ballast control. You can finally have a functioning deck awash. The base game deck awash does not work well. If you task a crew to ballast control, when time comes they will be right there to flood the tanks to dive faster, if you do not task anyone there, some random crew comes from far away and has to flood the tanks. That takes a lot longer and slow dive. I can dive pretty fast with a crew guy waiting there and have Improved Ballast Control installed. I do agree the dive angle is not as cool as SH3 GWX. I have to check with B129, I feel like it pitches a little better. I dont know. I will check after seeing how Sh3 GWX now and compare it.
SH3 with GWX, is way better than SH5 and its main mod pack. I think I heard with Uboat, with B130 they are going to have better dive and crew run up front. I think after B130, they will come out of early access. B129 already added in a lot of things in the game. I agree with the screw not being right, but there is a mod for that now. I think Uboat game needs some preset buttons, like crash dive and what not, to do things faster. As far as the conning tower misting and splashing when diving, it was made not to do that. This is a stealth boat meant to not give away any clues, especially when diving. It is nice in SH3 and cinematic. I am pretty happy with Uboat game and what more is to come of it. I honestly feel not the need to go back and play the mess of SH5, but I do miss SH3 GWX, that was a great mod pack.
just my opinion, but I prefer the SH series interfaces to Uboat's.
what movie is the audio from?
Das Boot Sound Mod
When there is a proper bomber run on your submarine in uboat you are done for because this boat does not go underwater till the bombers tool out your boat, its so sad
Hair Caroline!
Ubisoft was paying attention to small details, I am glad that Ubisoft Romania made SH 3, 4, 5, we can't compare SH with Uboat( is not a simulator more like a maanagement, arcade game.) It is normal not to have those details.
V
good comparison, you are a real fan of subsim !
You are right but IDC as I play with 100% realism = no external view :D
The crash dive is bullshit
Take into the account the developers of SH3 do not animate the water spray to go over the top tower due to the wave shields located at the front of the tower… pretty awesome attention to detail.
Good video, thanks for posting.
Back in the day when games were good.
Bruh graphics were so much better back then.
@@RandomHockeyFan123 You are probably sarcastic but for instance, Far Cry 2 had way better physics and environmental damage model with that good old Havoc engine than today's Far Cry games. Nowadays there are devs which struggle to create environmental destruction despite all the technology we have today.
The only explanation for horizontal dive I can see, is using both dive planes parallel like / / vs opposite like / \ In that case boat will submerge more less horizontal without diving the nose.
@Valentin Yves Justin Cheval He means, if the both sets of planes are down angled then yes, the boat will move down horizontally.
I was thinking they don't use the dive planes in uboat for peris depth but just pure ballast.
That's actually a pretty cool way of illustrating the dive plane angles in a simple text message, good thinking!
You could get the sub to dive with ballast changes but it's not something they would likely do in a WW2 sub to change ballast on the fly to adjust dive speed. They don't have oxygen generators like modern subs to possibly recharge the air tanks. So they would likely deplete some with each adjustment.
