Land Rover Discovery 3 (D3) Tow hitch lose - Fixed by Tow Trust, UK
Просмотров 17 тыс.11 лет назад
Brand new and unused Land Rover detachable tow hitch lose in the receiver of a 2008 Discovery 3 due to wear in the receiver. This problem was solved with help from Tow Trust (UK) who repaired the receiver slot and fitted one of their fixed tow bars.
Land Rover Discovery 3 D3 LR3 Suspension Fault - This one was a cheep fix! (See description)
Просмотров 107 тыс.11 лет назад
The diagnostic computer reported a faulty suspension height sensor (there's one sensor on each wheel on the D3). Looking under the vehicle revealed damage to the wiring to the sensor. Replacing the damaged section solved the problem AND cost a fraction of the price of a new height sensor. A win. A diagnostic computer is the way to start but do look for wiring and other faults before jumping in ...

Hey I Changed the pump and still doesn’t want to go back up
We fixed this by repairing damage to the wiring for on of the height sensors. More explanation in the description.
I had the same problem, the fault was the height sensor, or rather the cable to the sensor, it was easy to check, I used the carscaner program and when I was parked I saw how the height sensors behaved, the left rear was different from the norm (the graph was jumping around)
hi friend i have lr3 hse 2008 when i i turned switch off close the driver door and lock car by remote the rear suspension tires drop down a little and i hear air sound ,does it normal in all lr3 or something issue i scan car by scanner no fault in air suspension
Mine used to do that sometimes when it was parked on uneven ground or a slope. I think it was just the vehicle levelling itself.
wouldnt build around there some strange creature we saw on that road limby hall lane. went into the woods
Ok mine doesn't show up unless the wheels are on a uneven surface and one more thing......theres this thing were you rise and lower the truck with the remote cand you show every thing the guy said something about off mode..... i dont have a manual so this is fucking hard lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Could be a wiring fault to one of the height sensors?
@@harveyproctor1970 where
@harveyproctor1970 the real question is .....the light and switch is not working ..it's the terrain console switch ,the up and down switch raises and lowers the truck.....do I just replace the switch.....
@@Cliffordrussellpsyc on my car it was all about damaged wiring, that's all I can say.
I figured out the problem... some one down graded me to coils so there are no bags .....can you help with something else, when I got it there where things missing like heated seats and the navigation screen and I want to put the missing stuff back....since the navi was missing and they have like a cubby spot, are the navi connections behind the cubby. I thought that even though some were made with more are less the car wire diagram wouldn't change.....right,...and I do want my heated seat back....I'm buying the panel from ebay, you know heated seat switch....after that do I need to buy heated seats ....I don't know if there pre-installed and all I needed was a switch. There's a spot on the fuse panel that suggests that some things might be easier than I think if half my parts are there but need little things....
When it was the ride height sensor wore you getting that bing noise when trying to put the air suspension up
The car would sometimes sink down on its suspension while parked. There was a bing noise when the warning message came on the screen.
I have the same problem and 4 airbags do not inflate, is the problem with the compressor?
Could be the compressor. Have you read the fault codes? That may give you more information.
I had the same problem in 2006 I have hse and the rear sensor has changed back to normal or the compressor is most likely
Did you actually fix anything everything looks the same
The fault was with the wiring to the height sensor. More info in the description.
I can’t fix it
When I drive my vehicle, the fault icon the yellow orange on the dash turns red and lowers the vehicle while driving and makes my truck feel like a low rider with hydraulics when there’s a slight bump in the road. My dash tells me that I can’t drive more than 30 mph when that happens. I just pull over on the side of the road and shut it down, in about 5 minutes I start my vehicle back up and it goes back to normal for a while. Then it will happen again.
Mine does the same
@@fuzzhott6183 I had this and it was a bent sensor that the garage bent when changing my upper arms at the front, I took it back and he knew straight away, he bent it back to how it should have been and it hasnt happened since.

Did you have to clear the fault after replacing height sensor
Yes, fault codes were cleared after the wiring had been repaired.
What stupidity was this. I don’t understand the warning light is still on n all u are doing is talking about the creaking sound the car is making. Utter waste of my time.
This was taken before the problem was repaired. The problem was a broken wire (not a faulty sensor as the original diagnostic suggested) Hope you enjoy your D3 they are great vehicles.
What did u do
Dealer located the problem with their diagnostic computer and replaced one of the ride height sensors and a connector.
pls tell me l have a fault no sound and screen off what i do
Very good
Two things: 1. Where is the fix by Tow Trust? 2. The original tow hook you fitted is not in fully. There should be no red collar visible at all (as there is on yours) when installed correctly. This occurs when the retractable pin on the rear is obstructed by rust/debris in the receiver.
Tow Trust welded the slot that receives locking tongue to repear wear to the lower edge as even with their bolt-in fixing there was still movement. Thanks for info on removable hitch. Could explain how the wear to the slot occured originally, though this happen before I owned the vehicle so can't be sure.
Unrelated question: How are you getting 28MPG??? Is that all highway driving? (I have a pretty well maintained 2007 Range Rover HSE, and I only average 15-17MPG?)
Manual 'box, UK gallons (not US gallons) and gentle driving style. Mixed use. A, B roads and dual carriageway mainly.
Looks like it's diesel as well, you get more mpg from diesel.
Green lights showing in dashboard
How much does it cost to have this done
It took an hour to find the fault, combination if diagnostic computer and hunting under the vehicle then about ten minutes to create a new (waterproof) connection. Of course that was for this particular fault, you could have the same symptoms but a different fault i.e. it could be a failed height sensor. Good luck with sorting it out.
@@harveyproctor1970 if you have a different tire size can it cause the code to set?
@@crazyharold3005 I don't think so. Ride height is measured between the body and axle so tyre size shouldn't be a factor.
@@harveyproctor1970 do you know what code is setting? I got the c1a13 64.

I have just noticed my detachable towing hitch is loose and rattles. Is it still safe to tow at all, especially light weight trailers of up to 400Kg?
You need to get that fixed before towing. I took mine to Tow Trust who repaired the receiver slot and fitted one of their fixed tow bars.
Did you fix this I have same problem
This problem was caused by a faulty connection to the rear right hand height sensor. Local dealer replaced connector and height sensor and the problem has not occurred since.

@@harveyproctor1970 do I got to change the height sensors on the front or the back for that problem to go away
This is why I prefer the permanently attached tow bars. Lets face it if you get stuck axel deep in mud you don't want to be messing around underneath trying to attach the tow bar. Its also one more thing to worry about when your towing as the trailer can now detach in two places instead of just one. Finally by having the tow ball permanently mounted if anybody drives into the back of you the tow ball protects your vehicle and makes a lovely job of the front end of there's.
Q393 recall
+Da51lva Thanks for the info. I have received a letter from Land Rover and am in touch with my local dealer.
Inspect the condition of the tow equipment using a gauge special tool. Where the gauge indicates excessive wear, install heavy duty multi-height towbar equipment. A handbook supplement should be placed in the vehicle literature pack. The rework action will be undertaken on your vehicle at no charge to you, under the terms of this programme.
If you still have the Disco there is a recall from Land Rover re this. We just received our letter and booked it for. This should be free from Land Rover.
+Da51lva Hi, Yes I do still have the D3. I got my letter a few days age and am in touch with the dealer. Thanks again.
Has anyone had a range rover hitch lock up so you can't remove the hitch even with the key? I'm not able to insert the key into the keyhole. Help!!!
-Get a fixed tow bar or weld the chassis socket up on the sides and where the pin sits the air file it so the tow ball fits tight -It's cause by towing heavy loads Ps I'm a land rover tech
Thanks Sydney. We filled the worn area with MIG weld and fitting a Tow Trust fixed hitch. No problems since.
