Harold (Pops) Daryn (Capt Dee) and the swamp dog Tucker enjoying Louisiana outdoors, camping on our houseboat. Fishing, crabbing, cooking, boating, and other adventures. We built our off-grid houseboat so that we could be out on the lake and back bayous of the Cajun swamps. With a few DYI projects and building our houseboat from the ground up.

Its been over a year since we put the houseboat in the water. Bringing it to the dock getting it ready to bring the houseboat back onshore. Lots of people out enjoying the Cajun Paradise boating around the lake. Many people headed to and from the camps along Bird Island Chute. Beautiful weather in south Louisiana back bayous.

The water is on the rise, not too far from flooding. We are in a spring tide with south winds pushing more water into Bird Island Chute, New Iberia La. Good food and cooking regardless ! When I learned cast netting 1-2 clumps in the arm and held the weighted end in my mouth (brackish water) for a rounded open cast, but like you I wouldn't try that in mud !
@Timewalkerv I've never been brave enough to try the weight in the mouth. It had been many years since I have tossed a cast net. Took a second to remember how to hold it that I was comfortable. The first cast was nowhere near held correctly. The second way works best for me, does not take as much effort to get it out there. Thanks for watching and commenting it's very much appreciated

Pop I don’t know if you tweeted on it more but it appeared to be running just fine to me. I can only go by what I hear of course. It sounded a lot smoother and seemed to wind up more. Now enough about the boat 😂 I seen what looked like some really good places to fish for crappie. @lutherprince9304 dropped down to 12 degrees on the props and the engines are starting to get broken in. I could probably tweak on the jets. But I'm going to wait on that. The sac a lait (crappie) have not been very nice lately, but there are some slabs in this lake.
@@BoondockingCajunstyle I believe waiting to do anything else is wise. I’m sure from the looks of that lake it’s has some awesome fishing. I would love to fish it to find out. I don’t know exactly where that lake is but I’ve spent two winters near you some years back and love the area but more so it’s people.

@disolejunk We definitely keep a eye on him, he is not allowed anywhere near the prop area. Even though its about 10" above his head. I'm probably going to block that area so that there isn't any way for him to get around it. Thanks for watching and commenting and for the heads up tip.
why no hearing protection, I can assume its not loud. I could never drive mine without it
@@duckman5849 believe you me, the ear muffs are on order, especially for Tucker. Short rides are not too bad, but long rides get to hurting. I'm still not hearing good.
@@BoondockingCajunstyle ive tried the muffs on the dog and they just wont stay on long. They either shake or scratch them off. when you find some that work let me know.

@GJCAMPING dem crabs were on point. And Dee put that breakfast together like a pro. This morning wasn't bad. It said that fall is not too far away. That coffee cup works perfect, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out which design I like best.

I will never forget: My 1st trip to Lafayette Louisiana and watching a husband/wife using dip-nets in the drainage canal next to the road and wondering what they were catching. That night I had my first "bugs", aka crawfish. That Crawfish Etouffee was one of the best meals of my life. My 1st trip to the bayou with Louis & Carl Porsche (and friends) to catch alligator snapping turtles. Met my new Coonass friend who waded out in a slew (wearing only his underwear) and feeling the bottom with his feet to find a turtle. When he did, he brought up a 45 pounder with a head like a football. The turtle was processed and cooked rendering yet another Louisiana culinary delight. I loved the meal, but I'm going to let Billy (my Coonass friend) do all the catching. I asked him, how do you avoid the head when catching them. He explained you feel around with your feet for the tail (has large bumps on it) and ya want to stay away from the head. I just looked at him ... ... ...
@richardgreen7811 not going to catch me feeling around in the mud for one of them alligator snapping turtle. That is something you leave to the rare few to do. I kinda like my toes. @Marsh-Mechanic I have been hunting hard trying to find correct information. From what I have found is, you can not block navigation water ways, something about not being able to park on scenic rivers and there was something else,not remembering exactly right now. Where I have ours parked at I have not had any issues. I'm completely out of everyone's way. There are so many laws that change every year that it is impossible to be able to know all of them. And finding the regulations and laws is also almost impossible to find. If you tie up on lease land then you need to have the lease for it.

@Marsh-Mechanic thanks we do enjoy it. The only issue that I have had, was the other day when I needed to take it out of the water. I had it at a local boat launch completely out of everyone's way. The Parish wasn't happy about it being there for a day and had the sherif contact me about it being there. I was able to get everything worked out without any more problems.

that heat index is no joke!tried to go put my traps out yesterday but of course my trim switch oin my controller motor wont go up it will go down but not up its like the switch is tuck or something might go sunday if i can get it fixed. yall stay safe n happy crabbing
@grantfoster9099 sounds like one of the relays may be bad. Try switching them and see if the issue also switches. Normally those aren't real pricey. This heat is not playing. Thanks for watching and commenting

That's all you can do save line and cut it close. At the spillway one day my line wagged wide toward me, it passed drag had no effect so l cut it, that was on a small white feather for snook but it was light line so no chance.
@Timewalkerv saving line is a good thing. I was also concerned that if I cut the line too long, it could get twisted around something and maybe drown the gator. Capt Dee was worried that I would loose a finger or something 😆
The thick beans are hard to find here, I'll have to look for blue runner brand, in the old days we'd buy cases of grandma browns beans on vacation to bring back.
@Timewalkerv if you have time, whatever beans you get, put them on a low fire, they will thicken up.
