One Finger Snap(Herbie Hancock Cover)
I covered great Herbie Hancock's solo on One Finger Snap. Honestly I'm not totally content with the quality of my cover in this one yet, especially considering lack of distinct accents of Herbie's or having multiple wrong notes. But still, I wanted to post my best attempt at this moment to record progress and here it is. I will keep practicing this tune and solo for a while and maybe post again...
Aaron Parks Transcription - I Love You(Live with George Garzone, 2015)
This is also from my long-time transcription wish list. Aaron Parks, the modern master nails it on Cole Porter standard "I love you", during his duet live with another master George Garzone in Mezzrow NY. His haunting melody lines, rhythmic ideas and outside playing never ceased to excite me during the process of transcription: I literally enjoyed every second transcribing this! Speaking of "ou...
All the things you are(Keith Jarrett Trio Cover)
Yup, I did yet another transcription and copy of the standard 'All the things you are'. But this time, it's none other than great Keith Jarrett. Having listened to this solo for a few years, I always felt the need to do this and finally I did it. Before transcribing it, I thought Keith was using some kind of magical scale that only Keith knew because his playing on this blatantly well known tun...
Gene Harris Transcription - Soft Winds(Down Home Blues, 1997)

Another Gene Harris transcription for the pianists practicing blues such as myself! Great licks and swingin' touches, but most of all, BLUESY feels.
Gene Harris Transcription - Summer Wind(Live at the Loa, 1990)
Check out this bluesy, funky recording by the Ray Brown trio! Pianist Gene Harris had this 'bluesy touch', which made his plays so exciting and enjoyable. It may not be so innovative or new, but I believe this kind of bluesy feeling is something that us jazz pianists do not want to miss.
Rolando Luna Transcription - Celia(Chico y Rita, 2010)
This time I transcribed a beautiful rendition of Bud Powell standard, "Celia", performed by Rolando Luna.(Correction made thanks to Mauro Steinway!) Both clip and track are from 2010 Spanish animated film "Chico y Rita(Chico and Rita)", imo a must-watch film for any jazz fans, especially those who love latin/cuban jazz. Not only the animation/story is worth watching, but also music tracks are j...

All The Things You Are(Rob Van Bavel Trio Cover)

(Transcribed sheet work-in-process, will be uploaded soon) This time I covered this beautiful version of Mr.Rob Van Bavel playing 'All the things you are', from his trio's 2006 album "Almost Blue". I played with the original record, trying to get in sync with the Dutch jazz piano maestro. Although I'm still not quite there, the process was definitely worthwhile and fun. Hope you'll also enjoy! :)

The original video link is here : ruclips.net/video/_UViw83gWFA/видео.html I copied this amazing scat solo of Rai Thistlethwayte(AKA Sun Rai) in the parking lot. You might question my choice of sound, the sound I used is "Jazz Scat" sound in my Roland FP60X because well I thought it would be fun :) I transcribed the solo and want to include the sheet music in the video but I have no idea how to...

Nice
Really nice transcription! I made a synthesia video and if someone asks foe sheet musicians I'll refer them to here 💪🏾💪🏾
@itsRemco Thanks you, I just checked your video, it's dope🔥🔥

A real Knower
Every single time hear any kind of scat, I think of the Mighty Boosh, my mind is damaged.
good right hand, yet a bit stiff left hand comping
Thank you very much for the kind feedback😃! I also felt my left hand especially had some difficulty in time and dynamic control, gotta focus on that from next time🦾
damn you are brilliant🎉
😁 thank you so much!!
👏
😄
Great!Herbie is a mountain that cannot be avoided when learning modal jazz.
Absolutely agree, imo no jazz pianist can hide from his influence!
Brilliant 😍
Thank you so much!😍
Like I mentioned in the description, there are many transcription of this solo in the youtube that I could generally agree to so I decided not to put my transcription. Following are in my opinion some of the best transcriptions that I agree to: 1. AT Jazz Piano Transcription : ruclips.net/video/ZwA2tkuaE1w/видео.html 2. macarge 119 a.k.a. Takehiko Kubo : ruclips.net/video/wYRER2rQIvY/видео.html
That guy in the audience, singing along to the improvisation, needs to be quiet...
😂😂 IKR? I found that guy in literally every Keith Jarrett live video!

Great job with the transcription! I'm being a bit pedantic but one thing you missed out is the held notes he often does in the middle of lines, like for example the E natural in bar 2 and the A at the start of bar 7. It's really an important part of that Paul Bley and Keith Jarrett sound so I thought I'd mention it. Awesome job anyway!
Thanks for the kind comment! I agree that I overlooked the importance of phrasing and held notes, definitely will try to catch those next time!
@-@!
I've always said - when I grow up, I wanna play like Gene Harris.
there is also one of hank mobley on oleo on the Bags Groove album
I also heard this lick in Miles Davis - Stright no Chaser
Yes, he often uses this lick in the fast blues tunes
It's an off handed quote of Red Garland's Blues By Five that they recorded on Cookin.
I checked the recording you mentioned, and in my opinion, there were none. ruclips.net/video/vNkWxkRUbQ4/видео.htmlsi=yKRXLRQ88lQWP2Mo Can you specify the time they played this lick?
interesting - a lot of this is more or less straight out of jarrett's rendition of this tune on "solo tribute"
Really? Although I had the opportunity to listen to the recording and read the transcription of it thanks to Michael Lucke, I can't see it for now... could you elaborate?
@@snoopy_next_door ruclips.net/video/NRPchnrZHh8/видео.html&ab_channel=moom1000 I am referring to this version. Aaron is clearly strongly influenced by it and there are many moments where he more or less quotes a lick from Keith - I imagine that Aaron took the time to study/transcribe/learn by ear himself at some point, since he is open about being very strongly influenced by Keith and studying his work very carefully
@jmarvins ruclips.net/video/SEMTsXIuYgQ/видео.htmlsi=X_4K8yjmc7IdQfaa And this is the Michael Lucke transcription of the Keith's version you mentioned. I actually had the opportunity to study this version before transcribing Aaron's version. Personally, I don't quite see that Aaron had such clear distinguishable quotes or straight off part taking from Keith's version. Some reharmonizations and lines, patterns may appear in both but I think those are just bop languages, shared by many. I think their modern feel and phrasing have high similarities, and I sure believe Aaron studied Keith a lot in his phrasing or so, and maybe this version as well, but I don't see such a string connection you meant. Maybe can you be more specific so that I could understand?
😲
Thank you 😁
"The history is quite deep"
"The lick" dates back before the ragtime era. Literally.
This whole set is great nice work
totally agree. this whole set was on fire!

Great work... Brilliant!
Thank you so much!!
fake because it's not complete without the moan. JK - impressive job!!
Hahaha Keith's music is only complete with the right pitch and dynamics of moan :)
👏
😃😃
Wow, I've been learning Aaron Parks lately and didn't realize you transcribed it! I know a lot of musicians who play great that study Aaron Parks, and many have heard this duet recorded by 呂輪胎 CHI-LIN LU(輪胎 means tires of a car haha.). I feel that Aaron is a bit like Keith, or maybe they both have some connection to Paul Bley. As Paul used to do, they go out of harmony with their own logic, and the phrasing is extremely beautiful and modern! His single lines are very ethereal and give a desire for extreme musical beauty that is open to interpretation.
rofl "Tires of a car"? I always thought it was a name of the person! I agree his play has connection to Paul Bley. Imo Aaron definitely has that unique, original yet so appealing melody and phrasings like Paul did.
@@snoopy_next_door haha maybe 吕 is the real fisrt name, and 轮胎 is the nick name~

There are plenty of reharmonizations but most of them are tritone substitutions or V of V or both, and others are outside playing. Hope you enjoy!
intro?
naaaah maybe next time... fyi however I do believe the intro is definitely worth copying as well, Keith's arpeggios have dynamic control and tempo control that are smoother than butter
Do we have the pleasure to see you do a transcription All the things you are by Jeong Dong hwan ruclips.net/video/XTNVJHkVQmU/видео.htmlsi=7w-Ey3GglXXgPVFG ? 🥺 thank you!!
Yes, we can dissect Keith's improvisation from a technical level, such as his innovation of the bebop language (he hardly plays the bebop of his predecessors), his extensive melodic pattern motif development, his displacements, and his other jazz vocabulary(not sharp but with a modern feel growing out of tradition). BTW, the most important thing is that he totally understands the importance of touch and phrasing.
Cannot agree more!
As I wrote in the details, there were some good transcriptions of this solo and I decided not to make a not-so-meaningful duplicate. In my opinion, followings are some of the best transcriptions of this rendition and I'll leave it to you to decide which one's better: - darmaguri: ruclips.net/video/raRYs6tUqR8/видео.html - macarge119: ruclips.net/video/7C5ypIQToYw/видео.html

This was composed by Bud Powell.
Yes, but this version is not played by him, so I wrote the performer's name
@snoopy_next_door OK thanks.Bud doesn't get the credit he deserves.
