Добавлен 7 май 2008
I’m Mythic ODM. and I've been playing TTRPGs since 1980
I’ve played from the original red box, advanced D&D, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I’ve played Pathfinder 1e and 2e, Starfinder, GURPS, Traveller, Shadowrun, Numenera, The Dark Eye, StarWars (the d6 system and the newer systems as well), BootHill, Spycraft, Marvel SuperHeroes, and many, many more.
I ran a game store for over a decade. I just completed running a LARP for over a decade.
So, when I say I have a touch of experience with TTRPGs, writing and more, I’m not just saying that from a few years of experience.

Can DC20 take on Dungeons and Dragons
Thought this class was kind of weak when i read it the first time but you gave me hope
It’s been fun watching it at our table. There is a lot to it. Very versatile. Cheers!
I believe the exemplar is rare, but the animist is not rare.
It would make sense. I’m waiting on Paizo to confirm if either are rare. I still have a feeling both will be.
@@mythicodm It states in the PDF that the Exemplar is rare and the Animist is not.
I had a TPK in Stars Without Number. the party all died on their ship after 2 years of play. They are still begging me to allow new characters and have them find the ship. Yeah, not happening even if we return to SWN. However, the campaign is very emergent story, nothing scripted. So I COULD have them find the ship and little if nothing the prior party would matter directly.
“Space is rather big”. It’s likely been stripped by Jawas at this point. 😂
How to deal with a TPK: roll new characters, continue campaign. Does that mess up your story? Your first mistake was trying to have any sort of planned story in D&D, the game about going into dungeons and getting loot from monsters that can kill your characters if they're careless or unlucky.
Really has nothing to do with D&D per se. TPKs happen in all manner of RPGs.
@@mythicodm If the game is of sufficient lethality that a TPK is a concern, same advice applies.
hope you'll do more DC20 content in the future!
Planning on it when .9 releases in December.
Yes life can get in the way
Hopping into my first Pathfinder/Starfinder game next week and was hoping to play the Envoy! Thank you so much this is helping me understand it much better :D
Glad I could help!

Page 82 (Mystic): In the mystic's xenodruid feat, replace the 5th-rank spell for Viral Order with toxic cloud.
Errata is out: Page 88 (Operative): Replace the ghost operative's exploit's second and third sentence with: "You can Aim at targets your undetected by as a free action. If you successfully Strike a target you are undetected by, or has an attitude of friendly towards you, they become slowed 1 for 1 round." You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to Crafting checks to Repair an item when you have a repair toolkit.” Page 57 (Backgrounds): Change the last line of the Disciple background to “You gain the Holy Talisman skill feat without meeting the feat's prerequisites.”
Thanks for making this, Solarian’s are my favourite SF class
Yeah. This would be my second choice right behind the Operative. They have so much flavour to the class. A solid choice for a group.
👍
Thanks!
Supposedly the base land speed should be only 5 feet. Take the Adaptable limbs if you want to avoid that.
That makes more sense for the Barathu.
The 1e ship combat was very clunky, I hope it gets streamlined here.
Yeah. That was their main reason for the delay. I hope it’s way more streamlined
Sorry about the scratchy audio near the end of the Humans chapter. Did not catch it until in edit. But, let me know which ancestry you are most interested in! Which class will go with it?
Nope, I dislike this. If I buy something, I want to own it. PDF copy at the minimum. And that's before my hatred of microtransactions.
Agreed. Every other publisher gives PDFs.
Legend - wait for it - dary!
2:20 Yeah, because both of the guys heading the companies are old school gamers that have played MANY, MANY, MNAY different systems over the years and the d20 system is NOT the end-all-be-all of TTRPG systems!
10:47 That's sounds like it could end up causing WAY TO MANY crits!
The bonuses are pretty low. I think if the PD or MD are balanced, it should be about as much as in D&D. but the damage only steps up by 1 or 2. Once .9 releases I’ll be doing more play testing and I’ll post a video with my results.
If you have a Longsword, you do 2 dmg. 3 if you attack 2-handed. If you get a Brutal hit (10 over), that’s +2 for the Longsword. A commoner in DC20 has about 4 health, a level 1 adventurer has a base of 7. A shield can be used to reduce damage by 2, basic heavy armor can reduce standard BPS hits by 1 damage.
♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
gming this adventure path for freinds tommrow going to be good also going to be my first dm thing. so yeah should be interesting
Good luck! Have fun! The first session can kind of slug as it’s a big social skill challenge. I’m excited for you and your group!
Nok Nok escapades are legendary!
I get the notion of putting senses/language/skills at the bottom. But, the structure of the DC20 statblock was explained by the Dungeon coach in a video. His explanation was: Top of the Statblock: passiv stuff like, things you need of your turn (defense, hp, saves, etc.) for determining the effects of what the players do. Bottom of the statblock: things you need on your turn (actions, attacks, etc.) The reason skills, languages, senses are middle to topish on the statblock is because first of all it doesn't really fit in any of the mentioned categories but still come up some time, especially skill are fairly important similar to pf2. Also at least for me I feel like the hardest part to find on a statblock is always the middle, because... like... I know where the top is, I know where the Bottom is, but where exactly is the middle. So the less important stuff gets put there. Because, at least my eyes tend to overlook middle parts pretty easily. So it's structured that way for faster useage. Though I would maybe switch features and senses, etc.
Yup. I watched the Q&A he did about it. For a first draft of a stat block it’s very well done. I’d love to see a higher CR creature with a lot more abilities to gauge what it would look like with more “stuff”.
Tales of the Valiant- has a good stat block layout- condensed but useful
I have the pdf. I haven’t had a chance to review it. I’ll definitely check it out. Cheers!
Great video All good points It can give you friends for decades too
This is a great point. I have great friends 40 years after playing games with them. It’s crazy to think it’s been that long!
excellent points well done ty
Much appreciated
Yes, this is a great summary of the hobby benefits. Very good job, sir! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks! It’s an issue I dealt with for many years, especially owning a game store.
Great insight!
Thank you!
Short, sweet, and includes examples...perfect.
Glad you liked it!
Congratulations on the success of the channel! 🎉
Thank you!
6009! Woot!
lol
I would swap AC and HP in your version. Because you usually have to track HP on a separate piece of paper, but I always need to focus in on the statblock to see if someone hit it. So having it big and easy to see at a glance would be great. Something I dont like about the pf2e statblocks is where the saves are positioned I always have to search for them. So maybe putting them in an extra row or below perception like you did would be great.
Makes sense. Yeah the PF2e saves should be separate and even a larger font would help.
Having decades of D&D experience as a DM, I like the DC20 approach. You made great points on each stat block.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
You can't really move the skills down because they are actually more important in pf2e. If the creature foes stuff like grappling, tripping, tumbling through, RK, etc, those are much more common actions and DCs so it makes sense for those skills to be closer to the top. Languages makes sense to move down tho and I'm always annoyed that they have the combat specific stats liek HP and AC not at the top but squished in the middle.
I guess it depends on the creature and skill. I think that during combat, you are highly unlikely to need to use them as you have other options. If needed, a Quick Look to the bottom should be fine. Such as athletics to grapple, trip, reposition etc.
Love the comparisons. What I hadn't realized before is how simplifying the initiative rules, lack of damage dice, and use of the same attack mods as well as save DC's help to reduce the DC20 stat block. At first glance it just seemed simple and I wasn't sure if that was because it is a new rpg that may start adding more to their monster blocks. I generally find the pf2e stat block to be overwhelming, but their creatures are very flavorful and come with quite a few surprises, which makes recall knowledge really important for the players. As a DM I'm always hunting down those recall knowledge DC's and their associated tradition/skill types.
DC20 is very “clean and compact”. Rule of thumb for Recall Knowledge. 15+ level of creature. Ballpark, but it works. There are modifiers if you want, but basically that should work for a general question.
Looking forward to more PF2 and DC20 content! thank you for doing it! New sub here.
4 weeks later the algorithm put this video in front of me. Great video, earned a subscribe in hopes of more DC20 content in the future. 😊👍
Welcome to the infamous YT algorithm. 🤓
While i agree the always hit mechanic does undermine nat 20 moments as someone with chronically bad luck who once spent an entire combat encounter missing attacks and literally didn't get to do anything fun for an hour i think its a fair trade
Agreed. Sounds like end of September KS backers will get something to read over.
Pathfinder 》d&d
From what you said, I wouldn't want to play with any of these players. Maybe I'm just lucky but our group would never think about cheating/ fudge a dice roll. Sure we can make mistakes, say like using a feat when we shouldn't have. A party member would ask if that feat has already been used or are you are sure you can do that this time. Mind you it probably helps that we are all good friends.
Gamers reference! Also, I'm also of the opinion that Rule #1 isn't bad. Combat can drag out, especially with more mechanically intense games like Pathfinder 1e. If players aren't looking at what they want to do until their turn, it just drags the fight out longer.
Timers are definitely a good thing. 1 minute? That may be excessive. 😉
Aren’t 18 and 19 contradictory? I mean, conversing around the table about who has the higher bonus for climbing is a form of metagaming especially if there hasn’t been in game cases where people have demonstrated their skills. “I have hundreds of dice” - Aren’t you also 3-D printing more? I think they are your own little horde Mr. Dragonborn. #37 - I’m thinking that he’s making it more like a boss/worker relationship. He is the master of the game, they are merely players. They are there to explore his world and he’ll have fun throwing things at them. They can have their fun by beating his challenges, or not, it doesn’t sound like he cares either way.
I indeed am making more dice! :-D Yes, this entire 44 rules is a mess of contradictions, outbursts and "I've had enough" rants.
Yes I agree totally immature DM and players. I think there are some good points here but the way it’s said is horrible
Yeah. The whole tone of his rules is combative and ends up detracting from his points.
Also with DC20 you can delay your turn in the turn order to go at the same time as a team member for team attacks
Yes, that is correct. Team tactics are a very big PLUS in DC20. That is one of the reasons I love Pathfinder 2e. The synergies that a group can create is fantastic. DC20 is going in that direction as well.
I am gonna get DC20 personaly more intrested in that then d and d 24
I’m looking forward to covering more of the evolution of DC20 over the next year.
I do hope the mcdm rpg succeeds, send like it'll be fun. I backed it at the pdf level. I do agree with your concerns about the vtt, hopefully it doesn't become their undoing.
I backed the PDF as well. That VTT is, at least to me, a misstep. I guess we will have to see.
Stuff like this is why I prefer the name Game Master. I'm the master of the game I run, not Wotc. If I want to make something compatible, I don't need a corporation to give me the go ahead. Dungeon Master is the name given to a person who makes and runs dungeons, and are slaves to the whims of the games hard defined rules.
I try to ensure when I talk about any other TTRPG I use GM. When I talk about D&D I use DM. 😉
Congratulations on the subscriber numbers. 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
