This video is a good supplement for students studying 1984, with footage taken from the movie. Clarification: In the movie, Winston Smith meets O'Brian alone, but in the book, both Julia and Winston meet O'Brain.

This better not turn into a documentary
I love sharing this idea to people who have actually encountered this in real life. The massive power the state has is Goliath. And winston is david. Win stone. Chucking it at goliaths head. Maybe in the sequal?

One could think that a totalitarian state should have a lot of laws, much more than, for example, a democracy. However, this is a misconception. If you already control everything, you don't even need laws any more.

Oh man the amount of people who think they're enlightened proles or outer party in every and any 1984 comment section is hilarious. What have YOU done to help society not descend into what tou believe to be a totalitarian, Orwellian hellhole? I bet nothing. You're every bit as complicit in its founding as every imagined enemy you blame. And you know what else? We aren't living in 1984. Freedom is a constant battle. Fight for it or get out of the way. Very good video, but unlike others I think the 'joking' at the end undermines the video. Perhaps 7 years ago it may not have been as relevant, but now it is all coming true!

Try this. Ask people if they have read 1984, about 90% will say that they read it in high school. But 0% can tell you anything about it. It is one of the most terrifying books I have ever read. I made the mistake of giving it to someone who expressed a desire to understand the current world situation. She gave the book away without reading one chapter. She said, "it's depressing."
