Hello and welcome, I'm Dave and I’m a Midlander!
On this channel you will find camping sites and places I love, hints and tips I’ve picked up whilst travelling, mistakes you can avoid, UK Festivals, other things that cross my mind after a few pints but most importantly some nice easy viewing.
I love hitting the road as often as possible with my two spaniels Toby and Chester in our Volkwagon T5 Campervan, and we will mostly be hitting the road in the UK but who knows what the future might bring.
This channel is for anyone with a love of campervans and an eye on the weekend hoping to escape from the rat race!

Glastonbury Festival 2023 Part 1
Welcome to Glastonbury Festival 2023! Join us on our Glastonbury journey, staying in our T5 Campervan in the east Campervan field. It definitely has its benefits! A shower a day for a start, but prepare for a lot of queueing and walking.

We are back in lockdown so we can’t go anywhere but it gives me chance to share what van wheels I am running as it’s a question I get asked all the time, people are always interested in the tyres! Quick van tour on my 2015 Danbury Conversion Campervan. The van has been modified with a rugged swamper look and is my home away from home! Also featured are my two dogs, a cocker spaniel and a springer spaniel. Both mental! The van is called "Nessa" and is still a work in progress. Why were there so many people going into the festival site from the camper van field with so much stuff on the Wednesday do you reckon??
The regular car parks also feed into the campervan gate.

Hi love your van ! Just wondered why did you go for 16inch wheels over 17? I can’t decide 🤷🏻♂️ thanks
I didn’t see the point as I was only having steel rims and not alloys. I Also prefer the wider tyre look. I think it’s just down to personal preference, but you would need to check the tyres on a 17” rim are load rated correctly for the van.

@@MrAlexMoto it was a website but think they’ve stopped trading now. It’s was a long time ago that I bought them.

@@Midlander got the tires, van looks 10 times better!! What pressure you have on them? Road and off road.
Which rims did you buy from www.4x4tyres.co.uk, because they say that the type of rim is not sold in 16 ". It should be 16 " in my opinion in combination with 235/70/16 BF Goodrich T/A KO 2 All Terrain 104S. I don't get it.
They’re definitely 16” but they are over 5 years old. Perhaps they no longer sell them.

Did you notice an Improvement in grip.on mud out t5 is shocking
Yes, a massive improvement. They have saved me from festival mud and winter snow.
@@JamSandy00 oh brilliant thanks, as we converted my dear old mates old plumbing van ro a kombi van Now my daughter is into horse riding and got a horse box we fo more into fields today we lost grip totally. Don't really want a 4x4

Unfortunately yes but not terrible. Worse than that was the reduction in acceleration.
Did it improved comfort? My t5 suspension feels stiff I'm hoping going from 205/60r16 to 235/70R16 will make a diference. Will it work? Did you gain comfort off road?
Did you tried it off road? Does it rub when under load and stearing is not strait? I want to put the same size, but I want to do some light off road and I am worried that under load it might rub...also I am curious if you test it in mud/snow since usually you have a lot of s..t build on the tire and arround it...

Just a web purchase. I cannot remember the store but there are plenty that do them
Did you get larger wheels when you changed the tyres or did you just put new tyres on the stock wheels? 15" or 16" wheels - I couldn't find 15" BFG A/Ts when I looked.

Was inspired by your video to get the same wheels and tyres for my T5. Love 'em. They look great, handle great, and feel much smoother than the ordinary road tyres they replaced.

Thanks! Yeah it’s a lovely place to visit and the walk through the dale is a proper journey as the scenery changes.

I’ve never had any trouble with aqua planing but then I never really go fast enough!!

Absolutely fine, slight increase in road noise but it was never a quiet van to begin with. 😂

Was this dimensions available for the car? or just fitted them without having them in the identity card as allwed?
I’m not sure what you mean by identity card?
@@Midlander like the document with the parts that the builder (in this case VW) allows. I'm pretty sure there must be something like that for the allowed tires on the vehicle. For example if the police stops you and checks for you tires, if they can be fitted, there must be some document like that. At least we have it in Romania. That's why I ask, I want to fit something pretty similar but I've heard that it might not be actually legal. My car will arrive to me next week so that's why i don't know yet exactly.
@@themusic9131 we have a yearly MOT in the UK and it’s passed every time. I’m not sure if the rules are different in Romania.

, love the look! My van is lowered by 40mm at the moment and have some 20 alloys on it. I'm wanting to change the look, I've ordered some 18" black steels with the hope of getting similar tyres to yours, do you think they will fit ok with the van being lowered slightly?
I doubt it with 40mm lowered! My rims are only 16”, have you thought about raising?
@@Midlander Yes, just thought they would fit due to having 20" wheels on at the moment which still have some clearance. If i where to raise would you just go back to the origanal height

Loving the swamper look! I'm thinking of having these on mine with 18" steels but my van has been lowered by 40 mm, do ypu think they will still fit?
Where did you get the VW centre caps from?
eBay, there were loads of sellers.
@@Midlander hey dude, just fitted the same steels 👌🏼👌🏼 Your caps are they just the centre 65mm?
I see those are genuine sliding windows. Have you had any leaks on that?
Afraid so, but only on one side. I found that if I lubricated the seal and made sure it was clean and well seated it was ok.
@@Midlander so youve had a leak but its fixable? Im in between oem and aftermarket sliders. I really love the flush look.
@@Ricqu I managed to stop mine. I think if you want peace of mine and have the cash available it’s worth replacing.
@@Midlander Dont think i made myself clear, im about to retrofit a window on a panel van, love the oem look and am asking people if they have leaks, ive read some have some dont, and some have gotten them to work with basic maintenance like you. Some just replace them with solids, cant understand why not just take care of the seals hahah...
@@Ricqu it’s certainly the cheaper and easier route!! And I the flush look is lots nicer in my opinion.

Hi thanks for the video. How does the speedo read with the larger circumference??
Slightly slower, but it’s less noticeable at slow speeds. As a rough guide I’d say at 30mph you don’t notice. At 70 it probably reads between 75-77. These are very rough estimates though.

@@Midlander With the bigger overall diameter the van speedo will be reading low. I'm on 245/65R17 BFGs and according to GPS speedo I'm going 70mph when the Van speedo is reading 65. Worth keeping in mind with all the cameras everywhere.

Hi Steve, sorry for the late reply I cannot find the receipt or invoice for it anywhere, it was so long ago now. If you search online there are plenty labelled for the T5 and a few shapes to choose from. The label on mine says Delta off road company which has a webpage. Might be worth starting there.

What are the wheels? In thought they were 17” before you put the dimensions on. Also are you 2wd? Or 4motion
Only 2WD drive sadly, but perhaps an upgrade at some point!

@@Midlander yeah! That van would go down well haha! I have thought about taking my coil overs off mine for a while and this made the decision and I bought some new stock suspension 👍🏻

Look great. Can I ask where do you put the spare.?
I currently only have a standard spare slung under the van. I have some of the spray gunk in case of puncture, failing that it’s a lob sided crawl on the standard spare to a garage. Potentially looking at a rear rack for the future if I don’t upgrade anytime soon.
