An analysis of the M-65 in Mitchell camouflage, or the story of how jackets, produced for the commercial market, became the most expensive in the history of the M-65. One of the most beautiful and in-demand pieces of vintage clothing, and one with a much debated origin. There are many stories of these being experimental pieces, tested in Okinawa for the Marines, or made in-country by local Viet...

Fascinating. It would be wonderful if a veteran of VFC-13 were to watch this video and contribute a comment adding their personal reminiscence re: the flight jackets worn in Adversary squadrons.
Airman.
Complimenti, sono magnifiche
Started without epaulettes and ended without epaulettes. Legendary run and timless style.
This field jacket is so well liked ,why not bring it back with the original design I believe it would be a real hit?
The mood of the music is perfect for this - sort of period sounding or something. Makes me wax nostalgic. Great job!

I have an Alpha from 1987 and a Sew-Sew Styles in OG-107 from 88. Great jackets for windy conditions.
Tengo varias d varios patrones USALAS CON RESPETO🇺🇾☠️
They all look the same. Some narrative would have been nice.
I love the M65 videos you make. Why did they discontinue the ripstop lining? After 1987 or some time in the late 80s the ripstop lining ended. Even when they did the ripstop lining not all jackets had it.
I don't know. Maybe they cheapened production
Which model M65 do you use frequently?
Ripstop fabric didn't hold up like the fabric they replaced it with. Justy opinion, but it seemed like the same fabric our old hot weather uniforms were made of (jungle uniform) which was still being issued to 82,101 and units in panama and Honduras. They were great but wore out quickly when in extended wear. The field jackets with that lining I would assume would same issues internally over extended wear and cleaning. First 2 years in the Army I was assigned 3/502 101st Abn, HHC Scout PLT. We were always in the field, we didn't have the new gortex yet and lived out of our 65s and poncho hahaha. The jungle uniform was our hot weather uniform. Cheers
@@starioskal It's the same story with the original hot weather BDUs which were made of pure cotton. I read that around 1993-1994 they started making the 50/50 nyco ripstop blend for strength and resistance to fading.
@@bd3199 the hot weather BDU was horrible when it was first introduced, I never owned a set but heard stories.
👍👏🫡
Keep up the great work. Recently I made a video about my 6 first pattern m65’s. I’m curious, do you collect the m65 parkas as well? Always enjoying your uploads. That’s for all your efforts.
Thanks! I've seen most of Fishtail and kept the M51 and M65 for myself
I always wondered when these changes came in. Buddy of mine was in the army reserve in 83 and had been issued both an o.d. and woodland 65s. I went in in 84 and got the same issue, My first 65 was actually given to me in delayed entry. O.d. with brass zippers. I always wondered when the camo came in. We could wear the o.d. jacket up til 85 or 86? Can't remember, but I went through couple woodland 65s while in. Plus that was what everyone wanted when you came home, I made a lot of stops at the pawn shops off post in hop town to pick up friends requests. Boy there were some great finds in those places back then. Thanks again for sharing, great information. Cheers
Thanks! An interesting story!
How would you rate the brass zippers? I'm familiar with the plastic ykk zippers on my 1987 od green m65.
@@bd3199 The brass were ok, they needed care though when you got muddy in the field. I would say the plastic were over all better reliability. Brass just looked cooler hahaha.
@@starioskal what if you don't get any mud in the zipper? Does it work all the time when not dirty. I just use mine for everyday use such as going to school or the grocery store.
@@bd3199 yeah it's fine.
Do you know how to make the hood laydown nicely in the back so it doesn't feel that it's pressing on your back?
Iron it or cut it off
@@m-65fieldjackets what do you do?
Do you know why some had the ripstop lining? I have one from 1987 with the ripstop lining and one without. If I buy a 1967 M-65 with a broken zipper which replacement zipper should I get? A serval normal M-65 zipper, an ideal replacement zipper, or a modern YKK zipper? I'm only asking for your opinion because you know the most.
Modern design solutions in the production of the M-65 jacket, in the early eighties, include rip-stop cotton lining, polyester-cellulose labels and plastic zippers resistant to corrosion. The purpose of these changes was to make the M-65 even more reliable and resistant to all weather conditions. The '67 needs a silver Conmar zipper
What if I can't find a conmar? The ripstop liner was discontinued and only used in some jackets not all even when they were used. If you don't know why that is fine.
@@m-65fieldjackets I don't see any conmar ones for sale on eBay. Do you iron the hood or remove yours?
I have a 1982 field jacket. Recently I bought it for 53$ and honestly it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It’s comfy it keeps you warm indefinitely. And it’s a good addition to any vintage collection. Although I would like to know more about the 0575-OG107. As mine doesn’t have the original U.S army insignia but in ink print.
👍👏🫡

Thanks you very much !
You are right One can never have too many leather Jackets.
the medical officer coat is the so awesome!
It seems like many of the modifications that the Delta operators made to these American jackets were in line with what some of the European armies have been using since WWII - the combat smock. Unfortunately the US no longer issues the M-65 to its soldiers, having supplanted it largely with ECWCS-type parkas. However, had the Quartermaster seen some of these jackets from "Eagle Claw", then maybe an overdue re-design might have been in order to modernize these otherwise excellent garments for more utilitarian purposes in combat, instead of spending a ton of money on the aforementioned parkas which seem to be made of materials that are not as durable as the "Ny-Co" blend of the title outerwear.
The M65 jacket is a classic, it's a pity that the era is over...

@@JrnBakken-qd8wk It is impossible to guess with the quality. One contract can be made of different fabrics and accessories
That is so cool. I'd never seen a garment done up in Mitchel cam (I'm nearly 60). I always wondered why it was the basis for all helmet covers throughout the 60s and 70s (even up here in Canada. 100% until 1985. Even after that, the cool guys kept their Mitchel covers. I still used mine until we were issued new Kevlar helmets and the brand new CADPAT digital cam covers approx 1998) yet not used in making cam clothing. I'd love one of those jackets just because they are so rare and unusual.
