hands down one of the best performances OAT
I don't even have words. A "like" doesn't even come close to express the awe that I have for this actress/singer and her talent. *said through thick, grateful, awestruck tears*
She sang that from every heart ache in life 😭🤍🤍🫶🏽🫶🏽
This is one of the greatest musicals ever
Do they have awards for broadway shows ..?? Am sure she would have bagged a couple for this one.if there is one
Yes! She won a Tony for this role
@willbennett2306 thanks
This is my favourite flash mob
that was so insanely impressive
The way she bends Down on that last I am here. Always has me in tears! Sing girl! ❤
This Journey Cynthia takes us on is so beautiful. I truly hope the world remembers this emotional sentiment. She performed it so beautifully! ❤
palavras não são suficientes, aplausos não são suficientes, ela tem uma grandeza inestimável, faz parecer tão fácil que eu fico chocada. que beleza poder testemunhar esse ser humano e seu talento. obrigada Cynthia ❤
Just casually revisiting my favorite video ever from 2017. Love you Cynthia <3 you slayed Wicked
Queen
this has me sobbing
It's not that she did a bad job BUT THE WAY FANTASIA VOCALLY KILLS THIS SONG I HAVE TO GO WITH HER VERSION! But Cynthia has a great set of pipes kudos to her for this
She won a Tony Emmy and a Grammy for the single role. Did Fantasia do that.
Totally disagree but why compare two great artists? Cynthia had audiences sobbing and standing for several minutes 8 shows a week.
:)
What heartache and hope sounds like. Cynthia you’re an angel from heaven. ❤
i was actually moved to tears holy shit
Been lucky to witness some amazing performances in my life both on stage and as an audience member, but nothing (seriously NOTHING) comes close to this. That voice that comes from somewhere so much deeper than a solid breath and good technique…it comes from the soul. Just beautiful and awe inspiring. 🙏
The song was amazing,Cynthia is one of the best singers of all time. She flew in the movie wicked and sung LIVE … who does that, yes of course, Cynthia. Absolutely stunning. ❤
she has such a healthy belt
What a powerful, beautiful woman performing such a powerful song!!❤ love Cynthia so much ❤❤
ARIANA APPARENTLY HAS THIS ON HER DESKTOP CONSTANTLY WATCHING LOL 🤣 AS SHE SHOULDDDD 💚💖
Just watched Wicked, cried a ton over her performance as Elphaba, officially became a Cynthia Erivo truther, searched her up ended up here, and now I'm in even more tears. She's so unbelievably talented my goodness!!!
Look up her singing Purple Rain the night Prince died..
That "MEN..." on the last part sends shivers to my whole being.
I’ve come back to watch this frequently over the past 3 years or so. Never disappoints. She’s incredible
the fact that the quality of the video is not great but her voice is still so flawless....just simply has to be one of the most talented singers of this generation.
Not me crying tears later after listening to this on repeat
She’s incredible there isn’t much more to say.
I wish I could see the entire show. the vocals are amazing
Here after watching Wicked ❤I love her so much
so amazing
I remember seeing Cynthia in The Color Purple back in 2016, balling my damn eyes out. I still cry watching this video. Everything down to the tiniest detail is pure genius. Plus, she's the Vice President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art...I bet her students feel infinitely lucky ❤❤❤
Dang she looks 10 times better here than she does recently on her Wicked press tour. My Gosh, what happening there, she looks extremely unhealthy and very fragile.
I cannot wait to see her in Wicked. And she's absolutely stunning. 💯
Wow..
im cryinggg this is so beautifulllll
She’s good. But I did not feel that connection with her character. I don’t know if it was the ending I was expecting more of a smile to come out because of the lyrics. I needed her to make it look like the ending wasn’t hard or taxing. I needed her to make it look easy and like she’s actually enjoying every note of it and have the joy in her soul. But I guess that’s it right? She was probably just done playing this character.
It's incredibly disrespectful to criticize Cynthia Erivo's portrayal of The Color Purple in such a way. Acting, especially in a role as emotionally taxing as Celie's, isn't about making things look 'easy'-it's about embodying the truth of the character and the story. The Color Purple is not a story of ease; it's a journey of unimaginable pain, resilience, and triumph. To suggest she should 'make it look easy' undermines the depth of her performance and the narrative itself. Joy at the end of a struggle isn't superficial-it's layered, hard-earned, and profound. Cynthia's choice to show the weight of that moment honors the story and its complexity. Art isn't about comfort; it's about truth.
@@zadie565your comment is hilarious. No it’s not disrespectful to criticize an actor, so stop feeling offended for someone that isn’t you performing. Art is an expression so yes it expresses emotions. It’s not truth. Art can express truth. But that’s it. There’s been others like Fantasia who brought this character alive and made me actually cry. It’s just me who did not get the connection with Cynthia. And its in no way to be disrespectful, I know what I'm talking and feeling. You can keep your culty bias opinion to yourself! 🙄 Because that's all I've noticed in this comment section
Funny how you talk about 'art being expression,' yet you completely dismiss the emotional depth Cynthia brought to this role. Calling my comment 'culty bias' is a lazy way to avoid engaging with the point: her performance wasn't about making it 'easy'-it was about authenticity. Yes, it's fine to criticize actors, but what you’re doing isn't criticism. It's dismissive and reductive. Art that expresses truth isn’t about catering to your emotional preferences. Cynthia's portrayal was raw, powerful, and honest to Celie's journey. Fantasia brought something different, sure, but that doesn’t mean Cynthia didn’t 'bring the character alive.' It just means you didn’t connect with it-and that’s on you, not her. Next time, try critiquing with respect instead of projecting your preferences as the standard. Art deserves better than shallow takes like this.
Tell that to her Tony Grammy and Emmy for this single role. They just don’t hand them out. Lmaoo
Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson didn’t even get nominated during there run but to each there own
Sometimes I watch this when I need a good cry. I love her
Incredible ❤
When does she breathe?!?!
She's giving Big Mama Thornton vibes and I'm here for it ✨
I love her
who came here from the cutting room floor interview xx
her voice is so magic i’m so glad we get to see her share this gift 😭
😭
That’s a NASTY walk off!! ✨
It was a strategy to limit the audience ovations to fi ish the show.
every few months i come back to watch this
crying in public
Wow .. ❤
Who would've thought she's the Elphaba we're all been waiting for! Can't wait to see Wicked!
