Not sure why i got this vid recommended, but generally these are vps *virtual* private servers (unless we re talking about smth like the intel dev platform which actually offered free bare metal machines), lscpu and other similar tools display the underlying hardware, however since its a vps (aka a container / virtual machine) it wont be the actual power available to you. Think of it like running multiple mc servers on your pc, they obviously cant all use the full power of your pc at the same time. Tldr; instead of wasting your time on ""free"" servers, why not build your own system at home with some cheap components! :P As a side effect, you learn alot about pcs too, win win imo :)

So basically you are exploiting a privilege escalation vulnerability. exploiting free infrastructure isnt illegal. it is just against ToS of the provider. exploiting vulnerabilities to get access to restricted infrastructure is illegal depending on specifics. But propagating information to encourage people to do that is quite definitely illegal.
