I found this movie so fucking depressing but incredibly effective. I was sold completely of its horror and tragedy, story telling wise. I’ve seen this movie more than fifteen times but ONLY NOW am I finding the comedic side of this installment of Godzilla. The comedic human acting in this movie is a great juxtaposition for the tragic Godzilla they face. I’m loving this Shin Godzilla more and more each time I watch it. I’m starting to fall asleep with it playing on while I do. It’s almost comforting, this grotesque representation of humanity’s worse intended and unintended creations, ❤

I don’t think there’s a creature at all or evil force, it’s just that people who believe in God want there be an evil explanation. A lot of people devotion to god comes from fear, the fear of going to hell, not being saved. Religion was build in fear, and I think the film plays with that. Exodus 33:20 says it all, how can God be love if the image being portrayed is of fear? She saw what people said they saw, so her mind used that information to create an image. Just like when our moms tells us as kids that god created earth and we believe it because we are told to.

Shin Godzilla was a quintessential Godzilla film. The original Godzilla was also a criticism of the Japanese government. We've come full circle.

Sadly (or not) the entire section of violence is incomplete in the film. It goes through violence unto self and violence unto God, nature, and art but omits violence unto others. Maybe because centaurs would be a little bit too difficult to do properly, especially since they wade across blood whilst carrying Dante.

There is a book called Goro Maki's Diary, where they explain that it is Goro Maki who creates Shin Godzilla, obsessed with the creature he saw years ago feeding on radioactive waste. In this version, Goro Maki is a kind of villain.

Just ran into your channel after watching the short. This low key turned into one of my favorite shorts. Just wanted to point out that the...."creature" in this story reminds me a lot of IT from Stephen king, in which its about a creature that's pretty much an eldricht abomination/cosmic horror that also uses a light within itself to entrance its victims and feed off of them. For IT, the creature fed on children's fears. Maybe this is a cosmic creature that, as you said, feeds on certain people while also causing some sort of extasy in them to prevent further resistance, and it was wrongly regarded as "God".

No. The way you say this makes Japan out to be a hapless victim that the Allies were continuing to abuse for no reason; the Japanese government was REFUSING to accept the terms of surrender. As for why the allies insisted on a total surrender and not conditional surrender; it was so they could remove the corrupt and honestly fanaticized government officials who were willing to endanger and sacrifice civilians, and encouraged/shamed soldiers into fighting hopeless battles in an effort to cause as much death as possible-because they knew it bothered western countries more and might pressure us into accepting conditions to the surrender, such as Japan keeping its captured territories, drawing out the release of POWs (who the Japanese were horrifically abusing) or again protecting key government officials/war criminals. Some of those government members STILL wanted to keep Japan in the fight after the bombs were dropped. One was literally quoted saying it would be beautiful for Japan to “bloom and then wither away” like a flower-the bloom referring to the 100+ US atomic bombs they THOUGHT we had. Prior to the bombs, when they were expecting an amphibious invasion? Kids were being trained with sharpened broomstick handles. Blueprints exist for kamikaze torpedoes to resist the planned Allied invasion of the mainland. Civilians were advised to try to “kill ten Americans before you are killed.” The Japanese were struggling, yes; but it was under the weight of their own fear of the shame and dishonor brought by surrender. They were indoctrinated by the bastardized version of the Bushido that the militarized cultural leaders of the Meiji restoration pushed as the cornerstone of national pride/identity. And tbh they were probably also terrified of unconditional surrender because it would give them no time or power to cover up the horrific violations of international law that they were practicing in their POW camps and government laboratories. Yeah nah we shouldn’t ever forget Japan’s level of culpability in the war-including how it ended.

even a year later i think the idea of the horror being this "awareness" of something is really clever cause the film genuinely show the "God" being really early in the run time, just hidden away, and just like the characters and MC that have become aware of it's presence and see it everywhere you also begins to see it everywhere if you rewatch the film after the reveal

The nuclear angle in Fukishima is massively overplayed, it didn't meltdown and the explosion had nothing to do with radiation. In fact it proved how safe nuclear power is. It still operates to this day, and there is absolutely no issue with radiation leaking.
