I Built a SHIPPING CONTAINER BARN by Myself!
Since August I have been building a Shipping Container Barn by myself. Every stick in this building has been installed by myself. Thanks to Chappell Tractor, Signature Solar and a host of other companies for helping me make this possible.
As I finish the buildout of my new office/studio, I will be starting to edit the 90+ Hours of video content that I have shot since starting this project. Its my hope to have some really great long form videos produced after the first of the year 2025.

I was hoping for a video that would demonstrate the basics, but this isn't it. I would like to see a log loaded, how to use the Sawmill mechanisms to hold the log in place, etc. Every time he does something, I would like to see the close up of exactly which part of the equipment he is using.
Awesome job so far, man!! It looks great.
Thanks Ethan! The EG4 System is awesome! Thanks for everything!
Good job. Is there wifi in your barn?
There is! I’m beaming Starlink into it from the house via a WiFi distributor.
Fantastic build! That's not a barn, that's a palace, man! Hard work pays off. P.S. Tell Redskins fan to pound sand! lol
Thank you! Yeah - Its morphing into something more than a barn but its been a fun project!
Nice structure but sir that doesn’t appear to be done by your self
It clearly wasn't. He said he had the pad poured and showed more than one person in parts of the upload. Other than that, brilliant comment. LOL
Minus the concrete slab, the container lift and the roofing shingles, I did everything else myself. I think I made that mention in the video.
Haha! Thanks for the backup. Yep. You’re right. If I had the capability to do all of it I would have but that would have really inflated my costs.
@@homesteadNH Cheers man, looks super cool
Great setup, something along the lines of what I want to do in Maine in a few years. What did you do to ensure that the pad surround does not erode away?
I had an Alaskan Slab or Honch poured. It’s reinforced at the edges and is 12” thick. 6” in the center.
@@homesteadNH gotcha, thanks, great setup
Hey - Sorry. Maybe you were wondering about the dirt around the pad? I wrapped it in large boulders and gravel fill with Soil over the top all the way around. Few Hundred yards of fill and lots of huge rocks!
Kubota has a fix fail on the MX5400 for the water separator light. This is a voluntary repair offered by Kubota. The expiration date for this is, I believe 2029, I am assuming it has to break before they'll fix it, it's not advertised, so I just wanted to share with everybody in case you have a problem with it that Kubota is repairing them as a courtesy.
Enjoy the content. Fellow homesteader and sawmiller here in Maine
Put a crank up / down trailer tongue jack wheel on the front of that thing and make it easy on yourself. :)
I’d watch more but the annoying horn subscribe crap made me click off
I moved from NH to texas and got saws for work between NH and Texas. I intend to keep my 201 T, 261 CM and my 440 running for my whole life.
HUSQVARNA 🙂
Did you consider the L4802, and what made you go with the MX5400? Thank you!
Hi! I looked at a bunch of Kubota's but the MX5400 seemed to have the most lifting power for getting logs to the mill.
Model mower?
MechMaxx 48" ATV FLAIL MOWER
Nice
Thanks
I have that same model it works great it's powerful
Great unit!
I had a 292 for over 10 years & loved it until I did a dumb thing one day by putting the wrong gass with any mixture in it & burnt the Ppston out. SO I a couple of days ago & bought a 261 & planing of using it for a few minutes today. You'll love that 291 it used to be the Farm Boss; now the 271 is unlikely renamed the farm boss or farm boo.... whatever❗🤣
I might to say a 291.
I got it. 2912 is great!
I bought mine 6 years ago. I've never adjusted the carb, starts every time. Just last week was the first time I replaced the air filter and spark plug cause I was at the store and said sure why not.
Thanks for the info!

Bought the same saw from the same place
Go figure. Zoning and permits matter. If you are in a city, township or county that enforces zoning you must Follow the rules bud. Permits and building inspections are required
Yeah, for all the suckers
I don’t have an issue following the “rules.” I have an issue with getting a legal letter from my town that is not representative of the items that are on my property.
Just bought one last week. Has the new light bar and kick back technology. Sick saw
looking forward to the next videos!! :)

@@homesteadNH Good Afternoon Aaron, I'm also from Southern NH and would be interested in seeing your Mill set up in person. Would it be ok to call you on the phone number you have posted on your Website ? It would be just me looking at the Mill set up. 62 years old and not on any other social media sites, I only do Y.T. and the occasional E-Mail. Thanks 🙏
Thanks for reaching out about a visit. Honestly though, everything I share on the channel is public and I am happy to provide it. Outside of the channel, I am pretty private, hence living out of the middle of nowhere. I hope you can understand. Thanks!
@@homesteadNH Thanks for getting back to me. Best of luck 🤞
Stihl has to stop overcharging people, there's no reason to 1800 dollars when I can get a clone saw for 400
I chose STIHL for the warranty and service. A clone isn't going to provide either of those things as I have found with other equipment I own.
Do you know how to get the log pith level with the mill's bunks? It does not look like you do. I hope to soon own a mech maxx 26.
Hey Aaron great to see you, it's a bit late I'm not sure how your video slipped past me. That little grinder seems like a great addition for a homeowner that has a decent amount of property and trees to remove possible hazards. Stay cool look forward to the next video.
Thanks! There is a lot more content coming soon. Trying to upload more complete videos of projects that are transpiring. Good to see you here!
@@homesteadNH If I were closer I would offer to give you a hand with something :D but its a heck of a commute for a day. LOL I'm looking forward to some new content Aaron.
Hey man if you could DM me I bought this stump grinder and I can’t get it started. I’m wondering if I am doing something wrong. I pull it and it doesn’t start. Did yours not start when you first tried?
"MechMaxx" didn't make this wheelbarrow. It's a cheap Chinese machine (copy of sturdier and more expensive wheelbarrows) which gets it rebranded everywhere with different brands: Torros, Jansen, etc... All that to hide the fact it's a Chinese rip-off!
There is a ton of companies out there selling something similar to this. Is there one company that you know of that isn't? Thanks for the comment!
I put a larger 25in tsumura light bar on my ms291 then I put a modified oem dual port exhaust I got off ebay on it, drilled the clutch cover and put larger dual felling dogs ( I wanted to buy and modify a westcoast saw metal clutch cover but was scared it wouldn't work out) then last tweaked the carb works perfectly and can compete easily with saws that are in the 60 CC range can keep up with my friends husky 562 XP
Wow, it sounds like you've made some impressive modifications! Your MS291 must be a beast now, capable of keeping up with those higher CC saws. Great job on the upgrades!
@@homesteadNH also forgot to say the motor is also ported
Yup mine didn't last 3 yrs maybe had 3-5 hours on it or less.. I'm mortified 😡😡
It’s frustrating when things don’t last as long as we expect. Hopefully, your next one will be more reliable!
@@homesteadNH my Ms 250 lasted 15 years bro or more
What exactly happened to it? Stihl uses top notch stuff in their equipment even their farm and ranch saws. My ms310 is 15 years old and still goin strong. I've replaced the carburetor cause I left it sittin with fuel to long and changed plugs, filters, sprockets and such. I've cut a stupid amount of wood with it. Just curious as to what failed.
It is so good to see you progressing forward with a nice shiny new tractor from Chappell Tractor. It's good to see you posting a new video look forward to more. Hope you and the Mrs. are doing well sir.
I truly appreciate your support! It's great to know that you're enjoying the videos. We're looking forward to sharing more content soon!
Thank you for having me edit this! Looking forward to working with you!
Any time!
How are they holding up?
They're holding up like a poorly glued shelf-some wobbling, but still hanging in there!
Nice tool 👍
Glad you think it's nice! I guess it's not too shabby for a tool, huh?
I put a 25inch bar on a Stihl 261
That's awesome! How did it perform with the longer bar?
What a great select piece of wood you got there. the grain of it will indeed make some great end tables and a fine coffee table. Are you able to sharpen the blades yourself or do you send them out?
Thank you for noticing the quality of the wood! It's going to make some beautiful furniture pieces. I will be sharpening myself soon!
I should have given this video a thumbs down 👎; it is WAY too short!😁👍
Hey, thanks for watching! I'll work on making the next video longer for you.
@@homesteadNH I just found your channel today. Are you building a community or is this a Homestead for yourself ? Can you disclose the Town or Location ? Do you have electricity or is it completely off-grid ? Thanks for sharing 🙏
@freedomridermorty4459 hi! Thanks for the comment. I’m in Southern NH, the homestead is our family property and I’m doing everything on this channel for us as well as sharing our adventures with everyone.
@@homesteadNH I'll try contacting you this weekend. Love to see your Saw Mill set up.
Nice work on cutting the boards, the shed is looking pretty good. I envisioned maybe mortise and tenon joinery for the posts :) but those plates look sturdy as heck, Im looking forward to the progression. Great Job Sir. The ladder would be an issue for me lol I am not a fan of heights.
Mortise and tenon joinery sounds fancy! Maybe I'll give it a shot... or stick to the sturdy plates!
Your doing great things Aaron and certainly should be proud of the progress you have made and forging ahead it gets better and better. Keep on pushing yourself and learning more about milling. Wished I were closer would be great to visit if that opportunity was there.
Thanks a ton for the motivation! If you're ever in the area, feel free to drop by!
How is it on larger stuff under growth. Does the motor stall or just disengage a clutch.
I find that towing it slower through larger or taller growth works best. Overloading the mower can cause a stall.
Thanks! I really enjoy using your products!
Hey Aaron great video, It's definitly a leaarning process and I enjoy the content your making I have mentioned I did not know anything about mills before aside from selling firewood many years ago keep up the great work. I hadnt commented on the other videos though I did watch them. You did a greta job building the base and the brackets and bolts were spot on it is solid as can be. My mind keep going with ideas on how to make that paticular mill somewhat easier for you as I see there are times where the struggle is real. One of the things I was thinking is fabricating something to be able to turn your logs a bit more easily. Maaybe with some hydros or something to take away the back breaking work. The other thing I was thinking is a way to make it so the saw is automated and travels on a chain assembly underneath the carriage possibly. If that make sense, I am surprised they dont have like addons like that for the mill. Looking forward to the next video Aaron, until then happy homesteading.
Thanks for the detailed comment! I really appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately at this time, the mill manufacturer doesn't offer a log turner or automatic feed but I am hoping they will in the future! I am getting older and those types of functions would be great! The sawmill shed is in the works and I am milling all of the lumber for it. Hoping to have a winch system setup to roll the logs that is mounted in the ceiling of the shed. We will see. Always lots of ideas to think about! Email me your address and I will drop something in the mail for you.
Put smaller stuff down wiith a larger diameter stick it grabs On and pulls the stick with it but prolly why I rip throgh blade 😂
Thanks for sharing your experience and tip!
I keep the non ethanol fuel in my stihl products, they’ll fire up first crank in the spring when they’ve been sitting all winter 🤠
That's a great tip! Non-ethanol fuel can really make a difference in starting up equipment after they've been sitting for a while.
Not your first time ?😮
It's all about practice and experience!
What’s the length of those beauty’s??
14’6”. They are really nice. Thanks for the question!
