Slenderverse: The Rise and Fall of Slenderman | ft. NightMind, Trevor Henderson & more | Documentary
In 2012, the horror character Slenderman exploded on the internet, becoming a beloved symbol across horror, video games, memes, independent art movements, and even Hollywood films. However, none of this was to last, as the movement behind Slenderman came crashing down in the wake of the 2014 Waukesha Slenderman Stabbing; a national news story centered around two children stabbing their classmate as an attempted sacrifice to Slenderman.
'Slenderverse: The Rise and Fall of Slenderman' from director Alex Hera reveals new perspectives on how Slenderman developed into a viral icon, and how the artistic movement known as the Slenderverse was torn apart by a horrific true crime carried out in the...

However, unbeknownst to the general public, creators congregated under the umbrella of the priv...

    MH was my introduction to unfiction content and man I miss this era of creation. I think the art form has absolutely evolved for the better but there was something so fun, raw, and just beautiful about these early days. Cherish the memories of following all these series with my friends when I was younger.

    You know what TV show in the 80's benefited most from analog horror? "Tales from the Dark Side" - that creepy, ire music played off of analog and the video posturizing from light to dark was super creepy. The intro was even more spooky and bizarre than most of the episodes themselves.

    Here from Don't Look Under The Internet. Alex, what you've done here is simply put: incredible. I really enjoyed listening to you talk about the efforts that went into this documentary - this passion project. Slenderman mythos was a big part of my childhood. I remember getting so excited when MH or EMH would upload a new video. This whole doc was a lovely trip down memory lane. Thank you. I'm off to watch the further installments to this documentary.

    I remember reading somewhere (I could be misremembering or mixing things up), that to accommodate for the fact that TribeTwelve never got an ending and all the other things involving the creator, they decided to give an in-universe handwave that Noah died offscreen since it's still a huge part of the Slenderverse and they couldn't just retcon it out of existence.

  • @troin3925
    @troin3925 Месяц назад

    It's a disappointment that because of Adam's crimes, TribeTwelve won't be featured on this. There's so many amazing things about that series, but now people probably aren't gonna know and if this were an alternate universe where Adam was a good person, we could've gotten some extra insight from him. Even though I always like to separate the art from the artist and I like to highly encourage others to do so, I highly respect your decision and the reasons you gave. For me, my personal rule for when I can no longer separate them is if the work is some incredibly, spiteful and personal vent piece or propaganda to spread the creator's terrible beliefs (political or otherwise), or if it's by a creator who insert or project their sick, twisted fantasies (I can't even call them fetishes), into it under the guise of horror like with one of the creators of the original Dormitabis.

    There's something really final to watching this. For me at the least. Like an epilogue, if anything. I feel super weird typing 'it was my childhood' but it was. And, Evan put it perfectly. It was punk. This weird little underground of people doing their own thing by their own rules. Not that internet horror as a concept is over, hell as a lot of people said in this documentary, it'll have another era at some point. I can't wait to see it, to see people have the joy that I felt when after months of silence you see a new video pop up and it goes again. I wish there were words that I could type that would show how much these series' meant to me in my youth, I'm damn sure it's what ignited my love of the horror genre. Hell, if any of the people from that era, the past that I treasure read this; Thanks for everything, thanks for inspiring me. And thanks for compiling this amazing trilogy of documentaries Alex, seeing those faces that were burned into my memory brought tears to my eyes.

    Very good documentary! Got into Marble Hornets during the end of high school and early college. I suppose I could say that this whole Slenderman thing is what got me interested in online horror and creepypasta. I'm not really a horror guy entirely, but I have grown fond of the genre. I maybe saw one or two episodes of Tribe Twelve but otherwise I didn't go far from MH. It was interesting hearing about how big EverymanHYBRID got! That ending was great too! Nice work!!

    44:31 Thank you, Kris Straub. I have never heard anyone talk about this before and I thought it was just me. The General Foods logo they flashed just after the opening credits to some show I watched as a kid (Muppet Show maybe?) used to terrify me!!! I had to shut my eyes when it came on. Even if I heard "this program is brought to you by General Foods" I could still see it in my mind and I never understood why it freaked me out so much! No wonder Local 58 makes such perfect use of this creepy nostalgia....

    i knew about marble hornets from the beginning, even when i didn’t know that it was marble hornets. madame macabre was my first introduction to creepypasta, specifically their comic The Seer. i saw masky and hoodie and didn’t know that was their origin, but as i got older like middle school, maybe a little earlier is when i actually found marble hornets. and then in 2019 i found everymanhybrid and since then the slenderverse has meant so much to me. emh was so influential to me because of the acting. the emotions portrayed, the grief ACKNOWLEDGED beyond screaming, genuine emotion especially from evan because he truly lost the most. all of those things. thank you for making three parts to this i just started a new job and this helps a lot

    honestly, im thankful for the slenderverse for inspiring and shaping most of my creative work today. im thankful for the slenderverse for providing an escape in the difficult times of my childhood. In a comment on the first video in this docuseries i mentioned how the Slenderverse inspired a novel im working on. Im glad to say that there are several nods to the old series and game, and if my dreams come true of turning this into a film, i hope i could get permission from these creators to include nods to their amazing works and inspiring creations.

    I think if siren head and cartoon cat were created more earlier, the internet ruined those characters, I remember when everyone was scared about ‘em at my school in 2020, then they were destroyed my all these brainrot memes and in time they were out of topic😢 if the memes weren’t ruining those characters, then they would have potential, of course they’re not as old as slenderman but bro… they could’ve had a great horror movie if written right.

    The irony of analogue horror is it only works, and exists, because it's totally modern. The way it's created, distributed and consumed is shaped by the internet and digital technology. The nostalgia is only there because we don't use analogue anymore. Kind of gives truth to the saying "you don't appreciate what you have until it's gone."

I couldn't stop learning more about this history and I absolutely loved it. Thank you. As a 70 / 80's kid, I sincerely appreciate seeing this group of young people move forward with technology, and embracing nostalgia to create something new, fantastic, insane, and wonderful to our minds today.
