How reliable was it?

@@mohammedshaheel1855 Never left me stranded or broke down on me while driving due to a failure. I developed a coolant leak at the plastic to metal joining on the sides of the radiator but I caught it quickly and replaced it. That was around 121K miles. There have been plenty of maintenance items (suspension, rubber bushings, motor and trans mounts) needed but nothing that was an absolute emergency fix. Valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, intake rubber boots and bellows, thermostat failed and stuck open, oil level sensor failed. I've been living with a minor oil pan gasket leak for years and just clean it up 2x a year. That's about it.

Camshaft position sensor failed, oil pan gasket went (the worst one to do), radiator cracked, did a cooling system overhaul and the expansion tank cracked again after only 2k miles should've went with the metal mishimoto one the first time lesson learned, sunroof got stuck open, the car smells like crayons, plenty of electrical problems, had to rebuild the vanos, everything that could ever go wrong with this car is going to go wrong and if someone says otherwise they are totally lying to you. The car drives great and there's nothing like it when it's healthy but it's an absolute headache and the worst car I've ever owned. The only thing I have in common with other BMW owners is shared trauma, you might as well throw your money into a volcano. I'm getting a Lexus

There is a small plastic tube that acts as a guide for the rod that lowers and raises the screen.

That's amazing. I checked the Rennlist "ultimate coding" thread on the 958s to see if anyone had done it yet, but couldn't find a great answer. As these cars age, I would much prefer the window shades couldn't be activated.

@@revolvinggarage380 I was preparing to repair it but my SA mentioned they had the ability to do so. The programming is for the pair, you cannot disable individually which didn’t matter to me.

Exactly, 3 inch with standard deploy speed. I gather the 3 inch is just a tad higher than the OE.

Thanks. I love the design cues to the Le Mans winning GT1 cars, like the headlights, tail lights, and roof line (and of course the Mezger!). I think cars of this era are a fantastic way to get the feel and experience of cars of an earlier time, while still being very usable in everyday life and on modern roads.

Per the article (www.revogarage.com/porsche-911-turbo-spoiler-rennkit/), $1600 is a good bit cheaper than a dealer replaced OE unit.

Indeed the original unit was "free" with the car, but the first OE replacement (which eventually failed) was hardly free. North of $3k, actually! The RennKit is expensive no doubt, but cheaper than replacing with a new OE unit which is destined for yet another failure!

The DIY referenced in the article covers this. Simply, if the shade needs calibration, hold the switch up. Once the shade is at the target height click the window switch down to stop it.
