Fender Certified Pre-Owned Guitars: what are they doing?!
Fender looks like they are trying to make the Gibson mistakes of the past, by introducing their own FENDER CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED market on @Reverb . Matt and Jack discuss this new nomenclature and identify if there's any legal or logical basis for this new endeavor. Is it better to get a certified pre-owned @fender in their market as opposed to other B-stock vendors, like Franklin Guitar Works and a similar @gibsonguitar Demo Shop on Reverb.

This is why I don't agree that it's a bad idea for Fender. They'll pick up a few more sales, but overall will price guitars so high as to have near zero impact on the used market. When I can pick up a new Mexican Strat for five hundred pretty much every day, the only people who are going to pay more than that for a "certified pre-owned" are the few people afraid to go into a music store or buy from Guitar Center or from the many small shops on Reverb.
@@mikewhitfield2994 fair points! At least subconsciously there's the feeling that it's "safer" than buying from "Matt Esq's Guitar Shop"... I often pay a little more for peace of mind

Looking forward to someone putting a Fender logo decal on a partscaster and getting it Fender certified.
@@fader_dragon I don't believe they are collecting outside sources, just direct returns or things that fell off the assembly line
It’s probably just a way for them to unload returns they can’t sell as new and probably used to wholesale off before they launched this program.
If they can make a few extra bucks vs wholesale clearance, it makes sense
@@blueslawyer It seems like another kick in the face to their authorized dealers. All indications are that dealers are already less than thrilled with big quotas and MAP restrictions Fender imposes.

@@privateprivate4378 not quite. Different head stock and logo.
You guys are spouting emotions, but legal appraisals are glaringly absent from your diatribe. Sometimes the quality of these miss-labeled guitars is f*ckiing fantastic, and that ain't nothing to be so dismissive of: in addition, if YOU don't know the law, then quit pretending that you do. At this point in time, Asians are producing the world's best guitars and I only want to be on the side of whoever gives often economically challenged musicians the best deal albeit with decent ethical approaches. Faking a brand your not isn't great, but neither is pretending that having ripped off musicians and collectors for decade after decade is ethical or moral either, and that's where Gibson and Fender find themselves through their own thoughts and actions. It may take the rest of your already passed lives to sort through this issue!
Mason and vertexone: Don’t buy any of this guys stuff. He’s not to be trusted with anything he says or does.
Coming in all price ranges...down to about $1399 for the Chinese version. Honestly, the $10K version will probably go up in value, but I would be inclined to buy nice similarly colored Les Paul and put cream-colored pickups in it myself and save about $4-5K
**everything** makes a difference. you can't decouple the strings and their magnetic field from the rest of the instrument. some things have a bigger impact than others but when you start to add them up.... also the more you add gain beyond a certain point, the less some things will affect the overall tone compared to others. the wood matters, more so in the neck, but it still matters
That Vertex guy has always rubbed me wrong.
That sounds like a whole extra video
How much did Gibson win ? How much did Gibson pay for court costs and lawyer fees for both sides ?
Did you guys cover Gibson “hand wired” Amps? The recently released mesa made 😅
@@DragDealer yes we did... For some reason, they never sent them to us :p
I bet they didn’t 😂 well that answers the question what is vertex doing, what big brands does… It get of our do has. How brands twist language and marketing to basically “scam” others for the lack of a better word Since I’m not native English speaker
Paul is simply stupid and didnt get the points right. And, he is a snakeoil salesman.

@@tjatkinson88 plus Fuchs seems nice in real life
I’ve seen that’s guys videos once or twice and he always seemed like a scumbag. He just has that vibe. I don’t watch him, believe him or plan on purchasing anything he’s associated with.
I knew about the BBE situation and in my opinion that was water under bridge, I mean that was a decade ago, but I had no idea Mason was this shady until Dave Phillips told me himself when I was at his shop. I looked into the BBE scandal the other day and left with bag full of absolutely slimy stuff. I'm not gonna add to the Mason hate but what I will definitely do is ignore his videos or any input from him from now on. I ain't touching his products either.
Hate Gibson. Another company riding the coattails of their betters.
PRS is a good designer but is waaayyu over-hyped. The wood matters very little in an electric guitar. This has been demonstrated many times. All if his products are far too expensive and are just branding and marketing, like most products shilled on YT.
I would ask some questions about those pedals but, I'm afraid that's none of my business...
NoiseKick is a great small business and they can customize your pedals however you want
@@blueslawyer I remember hearing their Bob Ross Laser Fuzz, fun pedals.
If you need a professional pedalboard call XTS in Nashville.
No offense, but might I suggest your next purchase is a metronome ?
@@emanuele6461 where does that go in the signal chain?
As a guitarist I can tell the difference between a Gibson Les Paul and it's Epiphone counterpart even if it has the open book headstock. And everything else is easier to tell from there. Price point considered the consumer these days still has a better chance of buying a Chibson than mistaking any other brand for one.
That's "my" guitar center in Brooklyn as well. No tthe best assortment or selection. Still fun to go habg a few times a year.
Electrical signal sure but string resonance depends on the way the strings reacts with the wood. If you would play 2 of my basses a Fender Vintera 70s Jazz bass w/ bolt on neck and my PRS Kestral with neck through . Both have nearly identical passive electronics , high mass bridges . The 2 basses react and sound completely differently . Due to the wood configuration . I have 2- G&L 2000 with exactly the same electronics and hardware , one is ash and one is poplar they sound quite different.
I guess I just got a good one, or should I say an excellent one. It’s definitely on my never sell list.
@@Dragon_rls that's great! The options at all price ranges of guitar these days is just incredible. We are living in an amazing time for guitar.
Harley Benton = Value overload.
Thanks for this information. I'm new to the guitar world and watched a couple of their videos before knowing all of this. Thanks for the information :)
A great way to publicly disprove Paul would be to strip out a really high end PRS (hardware and electronics) and install the works into some cheap offshore guitar. Record the PRS first with a variety of tones, and then the recipient guitar playing exactly the same things.
Would Dimarzio sue every dc humbucker builder? No, probably not. Mark Greasy and his filthy t-shirt would. $10,000.00 for a brand new guitar. Gibson is insane. Their fanboys with more money than intelligence will buy em up. The insurgent democrat blows my mind. Ill order the Chibson version, throw in a pair of Dimarzios, swap tuners and electronics, and when it's over, I'll have $500.00 in it and it will be just as good as the $10,000.00 one.
Speakers probably make the biggest difference . They make a more audible difference than pickups do in my experience. Swapped alot of pickups and speakers and now i dont bother with the pickups for the most part .
@@adamwatson6916 Jim Lill (and to a lesser extent, Glenn Fricker) videos on the speaker impact comparison are quite good
I like both brands. But im with dean on this.
Paul Reed Smith has another line he often uses, “Anything the string touches is God.” Absolutely, hard to disagree there, whether it’s the bridge saddles, fret material, your pick material, or whether you instead pick with either a fingernail or the fleshy part of your fingers, etc. We can also add to that, anything the electrical signal touches is God. But here’s the thing: Neither a guitar string nor the electrical signal are touching the body wood.
@@erickleefeld4883 wouldn't he argue that the saddles touch the poles which touch the wood?
@@blueslawyer Yeah, and I’m holding the guitar, and my shoes are touching the floor.

What about “Chibsons?” Wouldn’t/couldn’t DEAN use the influx of these guitars as part of generic bias, as well as Gibsons lack of defending their trademarks and patents against those companies, as a defence for DEAN? - Gibson has to go after everyone… not just 1 company.

Gibson already started selling double cream humbuckers a year or so ago, but they’re calling them “double classic white.” They only used them on ‘57 classics, and they sold out immediately. In your opinion, was this some kind of legal test? I know they filed to cancel DiMarzio’s trademark in 2023.
