The Bizarre American Remake of Only Fools and Horses | Cinewhirl

In 2012, an American remake pilot was made of Only Fools and Horses, called 'The Kings of Van Nuys'. It's pretty terrible, and today we are going to go through and review yet another US remake of a British show. Actually this is pretty funny
I can’t believe the Americans remade this show as well 😅 leave our British shows alone. It just proves over and over again that Americans are not that funny
They do NOT look like brothers in any sense.
What a surprise, America tries copying something Britain has made and ruins it.
If you haven't watched it or don't like it then you're really not British
When are US networks going to learn that it’s better (and probably cheaper) to just pay for the license so air the UK versions?
Americans are great at making british comedies without being british or funny
This is nearly as bad as the Red Dwarf one
With so many talented writers in the US i will never understand the need to copy shows...
Why does rodney (USA version) look like andre the giant?? Lmfao
Its nearly as bad as the American office 😂
I don't understand why the Americans try to make versions of our comedies. They made good ones of their own. WKRP is a classic American comedy, we could never do a version of that. They took Red Dwarf and destroyed it. Twice.
The American version is soo bad i can’t believe they aired it on tv, it’s so far from the original only fools, it’s ridiculous
Americans RUIN every British comedy show they ‘adapt’ for USA Audiences. They are no longer funny, or clever, unsurprisingly. The American Office was a disaster….and never funny.
The difficulty with replacing Mark Heap with anyone is always going to be a challenge. His energy, his fearlessness, and his general skill at tapping the funny in every scene cannot be copied - it's just him.
The americans tryna defend all there horrific remakes by saying bUT THE OFFICE yeha no... you had one show? Bc you changed the whole whole of it bye. Idiots 😂
All these remakes are just hoping one clicks like the US office did and becomes a cash cow
Why is daniel thrasher there lol
I used to love The office remakes like The Office US and I used to watch The Office Canada which was pretty good not the best but One hundred percent better than the Australian version. The reason they make these remakes is to use a country’s pop culture and jokes and give the audience something new even though the Office AU was new it just wasn’t good and should have taken a but of ideas from the British and American Version
I don't agree with the "it started as if it was a season 2" because if they would have done a 1st season like the brot and the American there would've been people complaining about that too. They had to sell the characters but it feels like they think they have already sold them to you, and ... Of course not.
Gay astronaut is something Del Boy would say in the original before the world became so easily offended and full of snowflakes and woke morons. Homophobic yeah right.
Typically overdone, all jokes and no depth to the characters. They’re quite annoying really and two of them I know are class actors.
Really don’t like the color grading they used either. The Office (US) was made to feel sort of warm and comforting, this just seems depressing and bleak
For me, the biggest thing is that the apartment isn't a weird shithole. Like, this isn't two imaginative losers in a grubby flat where weird stuff happens, it's two fairly normally quirky SFers in a very nice place.
Horrendous 😂
I didn't think that Hahn did a bad job of channeling Saunders, however toned down.
My issue is that the world has moved on since then. We have the dark office Severence now.
No one anywhere no matter what country it is could could better or replicate the amazing original only fools and horses ...it was lightning in a bottle ...my faviroute sitcom along with Father Ted and Still Game
Donnie must be short, John leguizamo is taller than him wtf
Us Brits wouldn't try to make a UK spin on Frasier, Seinfeld, or Scrubs, so why does the US keep trying to recreate our Inbetweeners, Red Dwarf, Peep Show and Friday Night Dinner? We share a language but our senses of humour are worlds apart, untranslatable.
Can you imagine 2 Americans down the market trying to sell women's perfume
If I had to compare Friday Night Dinner to any American comedy, I would go with Malcolm in the Middle, which was hilarious. FND is full of anarchy, brother-on-brother teasing, unwanted guests, and family disasters. Maybe they should let Linwood Boomer have a go. Or, let's just enjoy the original.
Christopher Loyd was in Star Trek 3 with William Shatner! 🤣
"Dinner with the Parents" is such a horribly boring title.
I like John Leguizamo though
Am I the only one who liked the American version better? And I am English btw 😹
The USA doing this is pure cringe. Our humour cannot be imitated.
Dustin Ybarra is not a natural fit for Rodney
Why is there house so big. Adds no close connection
Man i love your videos ❤
Thank you!
What? It would never translate to an American show.
Well hey, I got round to watching friday night dinner after seeing this, and I really enjoyed it, so thanks for that!
Does the kitchen set look really familiar to anybody else? I'm sure I've seen it in a different show but can't quite put my finger on it
Hello - unspecific crew member on this show here! A bit shocked this came across my recommended as I thought no one knew it existed lol. Small fact though - it was all shot in England, with entirely English crew. We all knew. That's all I'll say 😅
Thank you for the comment! I understood it was filmed in England and that makes sense as a lot of the side characters were english actors too. Anything else you can share about the production? Obviously, I know you can't be too specific as to identify yourself, but anything vague would be cool to hear too!
Oh don't worry, any American remake of a British show will always have 100 videos made about it and how those dumb yanks will never understand our high IQ humour etc. etc.
That's not really the tone I'm going for, there are loads of really great US comedies. It's more that things are lost in conversions than me inherently thinking one is always better than the other
Well, I enjoyed it.
Watching the American version is like a really bad fever dream 😂
Similar thing happened with Utopia
Same reason it crowd didn’t translate.
Americans just don't have the same ability to read between the lines that brits do. It's just a fundimentally less sarcastic place than Britain, I think thats why these american adaptations never go well.
